Thanks everyone, I have purchased in my cruise planner.  I will be dressing up but hubby will not.  I like 1920's style so I'm excited for it.

I bought the deluxe package with internet just to have the peace of mind and to spread out the cost of my trip.  I may not spend the money in alcohol alone, but with the premium coffees and bottles of water, I'm pretty certain I can make it worth it.  But the main goal was to not have all of the sticker shock at the end of the trip.

I can reply to the Allure WJ as I was on it wk 1/27. Had breakfast & lunch there. As for the food it was good at least what I tried. My general thoughts is it's a little hetic sometimes with everyone running around trying to find a table & getting food. Now when they had staff seating people it was great & things went more smoothly as everyone wasn't going helter skelter as all they had to do was go get food & not worry about where they were sitting. In my opinion they need to do this all the time when it's busy.

Solarium was great place to grab a bite on embarkation day.

My favorite spot for breakfast on Allure was actually in the Solarium Bistro - a bit quieter than the Windjammer, and usually has slightly lighter fare.

WJ has always been hit or miss.  But it serves it's purpose.  A casual place to have a quick meal so you can enjoy your next activity.
On port days, we like to grab yogurt, fruit and maybe a croissant at Park Café.  Something that isn't heavy so we won't feel sluggish while at port.

The one time we went was a cruising day, it was as if no one on board knew it was open as it was about half full. I seriously think half the people who go there are across the deck at Starbucks and go "huh, JR's is open for breakfast. Let's eat there real quick." Good diner breakfast at a nominal fee.

I think they've absolutely made an effort here, similar to stepping up their Sorrento's pizza efforts. I've never had an issue finding something to eat on board.

It's been a bit over a year since the last time I was on Allure, but I was always quite happy with meals in the Windjammer. Then again, I'm really not a super hard to please person and am generally just glad to be on a ship. ?

Park Cafe was great for breakfast on both Harmony and Symphony. I'm sure it is the same on the Allure so would highly recommend.

Agreed that breakfast can be insane, but we always found lunch to be more stressful. Our experience on Harmony was that breakfast in the WJ was much more subdued than past experiences. It might be that breakfast is offered in the main dining room, the Park Cafe on deck 8, at Johnny Rockets and at Starbucks so there were more options.
If you want a subdued breakfast experience, I would highly recommend the Park Cafe in central park. It was a great option for our family and far less cumbersome than having to go all the way up to WJ. The main dining room is always great too, but this was the first time we never ate breakfast in the MDR.

The primary WJ difference is that Harmony has hand washing stations while Allure uses hand sanitizer.
The layout is the same and both ships receive their food stores from the same warehouse.  As far as cooks in the kitchen, crew rotate in and out on 7 month contracts.  They move between ships.  Not all crew work the same contracts so the crew is constantly turning over, a few every week.

On Anthem in August we did not utilize any drink package. When we got the itemized bill at the end ,all my cocktails/beers at MDR dinners obviously appeared but any sodas/tea/juice my wife had did not show up. I didn't ask any questions. Especially when lots of people claim they "Nickle and dime you". Probably just good luck and the fact that we make a lovely couple.

My teens have been wandering the ship on their own since they've been in the teen club.  My now 12yo is a bit immature and will have more boundaries whereas my now 15yo didn't have as many boundaries at that age.  Each child is different and so you need to decide what is right for you. What do you do at home?  Can they go to the movies or mall by themselves?  The ship is a relatively small place and as safe as anywhere with some common sense.  Here is what we do:
    1.  We have the Voom on everyone's phones (kids and adults).  They check it enough and if you want you can tell them that they need to tell you where they are and tell you when they change locations.  There are places like the slides where they won't have their phone but you can make allowances.
    2.  They are never allowed in another person's stateroom.  NEVER!  I don't care if its their new best friend of the same gender on the cruise.  And no one can come in their stateroom.
    3.  Never allowed to climb on furniture or lean over the railings.  I get an eye roll when I remind of that rule and they tell me they aren't stupid.
    4.  They may not break curfew (whatever you decide curfew to be).  My older kids (not my immature 12 yo)  stick to the ship curfew which is 1am unless we have a shore excursion planned and that is usually midnight.  They need to wake their dad up to say they are back (yes we are lame and can't keep up).  Sounds late but you'll be surprised at how many friends push the curfew.  Many younger teens (12/13 yo) will have an 11-midnight curfew.
    5. They need to get their own drinks (water, mocktail, soda).  Teenage girls know why and they should have that rule at home too.
I think the teens just like to hang out.  They'll meet their new friends at the teen club and wander the ship and talk.

Thanks for confirming. Too bad.  I don't carry my phone on the ship anyways (and use the paper compass) but it's nice to see the schedule beforehand for coordinating dinner times and to get an idea of activities.  But...if they add texting, that may change things.  Enjoy Allure!
