  1. Past hour
  2. A cruise ship is an entirely different animal tan a small boat. Generally, they don't move much. If you're concerned, bring the meds mentioned by others on this thread and stay as close to the center of the ship and on as low a deck as possible
  3. The people who say to avoid hotels around Hobby Airport are wise. Take their advice. I'd suggest getting an Uber to one of the hotels in Webster or League City. There's a Holiday Inn Express in Webster right on I45. That's where I would stay. There's also shopping and fast food within walking distance.
  4. I paid a little over 100 for the tour on Liberty last July and totally enjoyed it, was informative and saw a lot of things that you won't see day to day on the ship (Laundry, crew areas, food stores ect ect) I'd do it again for sure
  5. We had hotel reservations for our Galveston cruise in January in Galveston. Southwest changed our plane reservation and the non stop flight into Hobby is only available in the evening with an arrival time of 950 pm. I’ve heard many say the area around Hobby is not where they would want to stay but if we choose to arrive that late, we will not want to travel to Galveston. There are earlier flights but the all leave at 615 AM. So before I changed the flights they assigned me I wanted to reach out to my knowledgeable community whose opinions I trust!!!
  6. Seriously! We have some severe weather in the local forecast Friday, so hoping we can get out of town without issue.
  7. Second the "take meds BEFORE you feel sick" comment. If you know you're prone to motion sickness take a non-drowsy option as you're sailing away and keep up the dose. Also green apples and ginger beer (which are both easy to get on board. Ask for a can of Gosling's at any bar...) both will help. Enjoy!
  8. That's our take (you already know that, just sharing for others). Everyone values things differently. There's no right or wrong answer. We always sail with tons of kids and aren't bothered by them so the adult-only part doesn't matter to us. I'd try the additional food items and I'm sure I'd enjoy some of them but I really like the included food already and my wife wouldn't eat anything new. Even if she would, I'd rather put the $50 or whatever towards a specialty meal or pocket it. *Now that I said all that, I will admit that I did consider it for July only because it dropped to $22.99 and I recently learned that we'll now be there with Allure instead of alone as originally scheduled due to an itinerary change. In theory, Hideaway could be less crowded since so many kids sail in the summer, but that's just a theory. We'll likely still pass b/c I'm pretty confident in our ability to get off the the ship ASAP and make a beeline for our preferred Oasis Lagoon spot since we know what we're doing and plenty of cruisers are new, don't disembark that early, have kids in tow, etc. As long as we get our seats, I can deal with longer food lines or more people in the pool. We only use it to take a dip to cool off then return to our loungers.
  9. Today
  10. I think that's fair. We will be there next week (!!) and are looking forward to experiencing it for the first time. I'm mostly interested in trying the new food options. The main attraction to me a PDCC is the swim up bar, which is obviously available for free as well. We'll see how much we like it - if the price stays low we may just book it when we're cruising without the kids as a change of pace.
  11. time is just a social construct!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Dan loves to snorkel and it's really the only reason he gets off at PDCC. There is no real snorkeling at Hideaway unless you just want to swim around in a sandy beach environment. IMO there is nothing at Hideaway that you cannot get for free over on the "free" side....with the exception of some nice overstuffed chairs/couches in a couple of locations. If you want beach or poolside loungers, you can get the same thing on the free side for - FREE. Since I cannot lay for long in a lounger (it kills my back) AND I have to stay out of the sun, those comfy couches were pretty nice. You have to get there early though...they are gone fast. Honestly, there's nothing wrong with Hideaway...it's just not worth any extra money to us.
  13. Truthfully only the casino reps know its a casino comp. Everything else is the same. The only true drawback is since you only pay taxes and fees, the odds of getting compensation for problems are almost zero.
  14. I agree with previous replies. 1) you’ll be sailing in hurricane season. Just because there’s not a hurricane nearby, doesn’t mean there’s not a tropical system close by that can complicate things. 2) your boat makes a big difference, as well as where you are on the boat. My experience - 3 cruises, 2 of them within the last year were Voyager and Harmony. For the latter, we cruised with friends. I have never been “seasick” but I’ve been close - 10 foot swells on the ferry to Block Island. I have brought motion sickness meds on every cruise and not used them once. That said... This past April on Harmony was the most pronounced rocking I’ve felt and it was there all 7 days. We sailed with friends for the first time and one of them was very motion sensitive. She didn’t have to resort to the meds, but she wasn’t really comfortable some of the time. Harmony is 17 decks, and cross winds buffet the ship like crazy. It was never horrible, bad or even moderate. The best word I can use to describe it is ... annoying. It wasn’t difficult to walk, your drinks weren’t sliding across the table or anything nuts like that. Again, just an annoyance. RC isn’t going to sail you into a tropical system. I think you’ll be fine!
  15. Used to be, getting an early boarding slot was easy. Now, regardless of when I check in, the earliest boarding slot available is 1:30. Traveling cross country thru three time zones, plane changes, sleeping in a motel, booking a shuttle, finding breakfast, etc., we don't always have complete control of when we'll actually arrive at the airport or cruise port. But as has been said, usually they board us regardless of how well our scheduled boarding time actually matches our arrival time. The biggest exception to this has been Los Angeles. They are requiring us to remain in hugely long lines holding tight to our time slot.
  16. I'm on this cruise. This will be my first time on Quantum and my first Alaskan cruise.
  17. I bring non-drowsy Bonine with me. I usually take one about an hour before the ship leaves the embarkation port just in case there are rough seas. One pill will last 24 hrs. Then I gauge how the seas are when deciding to take another the following days.
  18. I'm sure you'd want to form your own opinion, shows are as subjective as food, but you didn't miss anything IMO.
  19. I have gotten sick on small boats going to block island. And also in cars if I’m in the backseat. Never been on a cruise
  20. Yep, some reasonable prices for my upcoming June & July Wonders compared to how high things had gotten at their peak at least. Hideaway is $22.99, lowest I've seen for these sailings (we passed on $19.99 in March). $89.99 for the Beach Club and even the cabanas are pretty low given that they were in the 3-4K range for a while. I'm seeing $1740 for OTW and $1485 for Beach. Seeing good prices almost makes me wish we actually bought any of this stuff... almost.
  21. Yes, we received a Royal Up offer for our Prime cruise. In fact we receive Royal Up Offers for all of our casino booked cruises.
  22. Have you ever been on a cruise to know how you react to motion in the past? Or are you just prone to car motion sickness and are curious about how that'll manifest itself on a ship?
  23. As mentioned, there's just really no way to know. And it can change quickly in any direction, too. I remember one Atlantic cruise where we woke up and the seas were angry...like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli. I'm largely immune to seasickness, so I literally had the entire pool to myself for a few hours because most people (including my wife) were in their cabins sick. By the afternoon, it was sunny, clear, the pool was packed with everyone making up for lost time, and you'd have never known it was anything but beautiful an hour or two before.
  24. Just on Wonder last week - was able to book inTENse a couple times as the capacity didn't seem as limited as the main theatre. Main theatre shows were booked once and if you miss it, you are in standby for the next show. Couldn't get to see Voices but did get to see the Effectors II (that theatre was full for an afternoon show).
  25. Radiance Nov 2, 2024: Coco Beach Club was $86.99 and is now $75.99!!!! Going to check my other cruises.
