This is why you get travel insurance

Someone in a FB casino group reported their Radiance sailing out of Alaska has cancelled due to engine problems., they had already boarded when the decision was made.  Full refund, FCC and $600 towards air.
another person responded that they were on the sailing that disembarked that morning and the ship had engine issues through the night.

Next weeks passengers received a “standby for more info” as the ship should be sailing this week to get those next sailers next week from the other end,  so it’s unknown if they would have to change their flight to where the ship is currently docked.  they report they should hear something by Tuesday.

Travel insurance will certainly come in handy!

This is an incredibly generous offer by Royal!

With an offer like this I don’t think there is anything to claim from a travel policy. The passengers have no loss.

I was not privy, and it’s a great compensation- however people do book stays post cruise. Additionally those waiting to get on the next leg of the flight-would be at the other end of where the ship currently is, with some having flown in early to sightsee prior to cruising.

If it was me I would head immediately down to next cruise ASAP and take the FCC and apply it to the next Radiance sailing if I could find a cabin available.

I could then spend the remainder of the week working with Royal shoreside to get me home from Vancouver......and lament the casino is not open.

While this was unavoidable, and RC did offer a nice compensation, you still might need travel insurance, in my opinion. Many flights will cost more that $600. Especially if that is per couple, not per person.  I also always have hotels pre-paid, before and after cruises.   There could be transportation to airport or train station.

You are exactly right. This is a one-way cruise, so folks have to pay to change their existing flights home to be from a different airport and earlier. Last minute flights are likely way more expensive. Travel insurance would cover that gap.

It could also cover any non-refundable costs for excursions outside of the cruiseline. If there were plans to stay in the debarkation city for an extended post-cruise trip, travel insurance would cover the costs to continue your trip.
