HendersonPhoto
My Wife, three daughters and I are going on Harmony in 19 days! So Excited! Wondering about carrying cash and/or cards while on shore. We will be going to Coco, Costa Maya, Roatan and Cozumel. How much cash should I bring with us off-ship? Should it be in USD or should I order some foreign currency? Should I ever use a credit card in port?
WAAAYTOOO
Love this itinerary !! USD are good. No need for converting to local currency. I have used a credit card a number of times and never had an issue. I recommend using a CC that does not have a foreign currency fee. Bring as much money as you think you will need ! If you are planning on shopping, bring more. If you just want to wander around and grab a drink or something to eat, not so much. I usually bring a medium amount of cash and a CC...that way, I am covered if I see something I just cannot live without !! AshleyDillo
No need for foreign currency. You can use a credit card in port at most places but check your card for their policy on foreign transaction fees. Some cards have them while others do not. That way your extra cash won't fall through the hole in your pocket as you pass through the casino! When we go off the ship, we allow about $100 per person for shopping or emergency transportation. I bring the leftover currency from a previous trip just in case I need it, but visiting the same ports I've usually used USD. GregD
We are cruising in 19 days as well, on Liberty, and we will be visiting Roatan too. Our tour guide has recommended US cash there for all transactions because credit card machines are programmed to add a 19% Honduran Tax on all transactions. They also recommend to use your best looking cash. The banks wont accept bills that are worn, taped or torn. The $100pp that @ChessE4 recommends is appropriate and is what we will be bringing. We plan on using cash though only in Roatan. The other ports we will most likely use cards if needed, we aren't big shoppers, and the other ports we are visiting we are booked on RC excursions that include lunch and drinks so less pocket money is needed. @HendersonPhoto, What day are you in Roatan? We will be there Wednesday the 19th. WAAAYTOOO and ChessE4 1
KWong
Just an FYI - if you need small bills you can go to guest services or the casino to exchange for ones and fives. WesKinetic and JimnKathy
