Further, if follow the link to the original Quartz article, you see that even the quote given is partial and taken out of context. A key takeaway I got from reading the Quartz article is that even the best of these systems has a false positive rate of two per week (104 times per year), and that this same system has not yet had any actual MOB events on the ONE ship where it's installed!
That's right -- even the best of these systems has a false positive rate that massively exceeds the number of times it has picked up a real man overboard event that could / did save the person's life. And I'm sorry, but no business is going to install something that poor on their ships when it means they'll be spending tremendous amounts of time dealing with "boy who cried wolf" syndrome.
There are only one or two real MOB events per month average, as stated by the original article and the one in Quartz. That's across every ship from every cruise line and shipping service. Given the number of lines and ships, you're talking less than 1 event on a given ship per year on average. And you expect companies to install a system that have a false positive rate that's at best 104x worse than the real event happening? Please.

News reports out of Miami are reporting an Australian man "fell" overboard early this morning from Symphony of The Seas. The ship was reported to have been enroute to St. Thomas when the appx. 0300 incident occurred. There are claims that a body was observed being brought on board from a dispatched lifeboat. I'm sure more info will be forthcoming. ☹️

He also posted food pics (as did I) on my blog of the same sailing. That one is here
@JohnK6404 had some great pics from his May Allure sailing here

We were in a place yesterday that put paper straws into their drinks (sodas) that were served in plastic cups! I was too tired to question them, but how weird is that?

For any survey related emails you get from or for Royal, make sure to at least look at them-don't delete until you check it first. I got one about Cococay. They requested that I take some pictures and describe our visit there. In return they gave a $75 Amazon gift card. My information to them was due no later than the day after we returned and I had the gift card less than 7 days after that. It was well worth the few minutes spent....and Cococay was magnificent.

This is my first ever attempt at a trip report and i wanted to share some of the highlights of our trip.  I have learned so much from Matt and others here that i attribute such a great cruise to you all and wish to say thank you.  This was our 4th cruise with Royal and a special one as it was our 20th Anniversary.
It was Friday night and we are all packed and ready to leave for the airport first thing in the morning when the email comes in that our flights to San Juan are cancelled.  After hours on the phone with the airline we have another flight and we are on our way.  Another vote for always flying in the day before.

After getting our luggage we got a taxi and headed off to Sheraton Old San Juan.  This hotel was beautiful and check in was fast and simple.

    View from the balcony room.

After getting settled we decided to explore a little and hopefully find the forts and get dinner after a long travel day.

After the forts we found Punto de Vista Rooftop Restaurant at the Hotel Milano and decided to give it a try.  We tried Mofongo for the first time.  I liked it very much but since it was my first time i can not compare it to anywhere else.  After dinner it was back to the hotel.  The plan was to cool off in the rooftop pool but we were both too tired and decided to turn in for the night.
    Next up.....Embarkation Day!!

I messaged them yesterday and was told the Key would appear 60-90 days before sailing. An hour later it was on my planner (250+ days out).  It's listed at $31.99. I paid 19.99 for an Oasis Class 7 night last May. This is a 12 night on a Voyager class...no way we will pay more than 24.99 for it.
It used to be that the facebook messenger group was very reliable. Lately it seems like they use stock answers whether or not it's applicable to your situation. Very unfortunate.

At the current price of $31.99 a nine night cruise would cost two of us $575. Voom for 2  Devices is listed at $23.98 (x9) would be $216
voom for 1 device is 12.99 (x9) totals $117 ( just want to be able to keep in touch with home).  Maybe on a shorter cruise with my teens (they would want voom and stream and use all the activities) this would be for us, this time I’ll put the $450 difference toward my Excursions.

I sailed Symphony in May and you went in July. I am on Adventure in May and you in July. What a copy cat you are!?
Sabrina, I'd be lying if I said I didn't like Oasis class better. But this will be the third time sailing Adventure and still looking forward to it. We also like this ship better than Anthem (other than not having the 270). Each time on, the staff was fabulous....in 2018 they were so good, I wrote a letter to corporate in addition to the survey.
If you are sailing with others (group cruise, extended family?) you will find enough to keep busy. If it's just you and hubby, you can celebrate anniversary #18. Plus you are such a positive minded sailor that I am sure you will enjoy yourself even though it's not Oasis class.
@Fuzzywuzzy, was the staff on Adventure as good as I have come to expect? And welcome home!

#1: The comedians will mock you for flying to the US, taking a cruise to Canada and then flying back to Canada from the US? Anyway, yes we always book excursions through the cruise line. So easy to do on the Cruise Planner. We no longer have our youthful stamina and the wife can't walk very long so we have to take the mild ones. In Bar Harbor we took the Scenic Bar Harbor/Cadillac Mountain tour (Its on a small bus}. Driver gives you a rundown on the historic sites and points of interest as you go through town. If you have vertigo forgo this trip, it winds around the mountain to the top and the drop offs are steep as hell. Worth the trip when you get there. Fantastic view of the harbor and the Adventure. Walked a little bit in town, had Lobster Ice Cream at Ben and Bills Emporium. Bought too many souvenirs for the grandkids. In Saint John took a similar excursion, St. John Scenic Trolley Tour. Took us all over town and let us off at the Saint John River Reversing Falls where the river flows backwards when the tide comes in from the Bay of Fundy. Got dropped off at the City Market. Bought too many souvenirs for the grandkids. In Fairfax we took the Essential Halifax On and Off Double Decker Bus thingy. I trashed it a little in the Excursions section. However the stops we got off on included the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, which had a bunch of Titanic and Halifax Explosion exhibits and artifacts, and the Citadel of Halifax, a very old British Military Post. Don't go here if you hate bagpipes because you'll hear them quite a bit as they march around, in period military uniforms, playing the pipes and banging drums for your entertainment. I loved it. Great exhibits in the buildings. The have a shop where we spent......Well, you know.  I took this photo of the Adventure from atop Cadillac Mountain.

Returned yesterday from the New England/Canada cruise on Adventure. Total wait time at Cape Liberty terminal was about a half hour between entering and boarding. Went right to the Windjammer for lunch. Everything was good, much like it is on Anthem just a little smaller. Had 2 hours till cabin access so we went to the Lyric Theater to kill time. Saw Dumbo. Cabin was found to be clean, plenty of room for 2 (Spacious Ocean View Balcony). Asked for some ice, cabin attendant (Ajay) kept us in ice the whole cruise. Food in MDR was excellent. No complaints. Ate there 5 days, actually went to Windjammer on the last night as I knew they were having "Seafood Extravaganza" and American fare. Overdosed on seafood. All the ports were great, tendering at Bar Harbor was quick and painless. Saint John and Halifax are fabulous places to visit too. Most of our excursions were as advertised and worth the cost. Except one. I will cover that in that section of the blog.Onboard entertainment was well done. Shows by the ships singers and dancers were great. Nice ice skating show.  A Journey cover band named DSB  was the best I've ever seen. They were spot on. So many people at the 7 o'clock show came back to the 9 o'clock show that it was SRO! There were 2 hilarious comedians with both family and late night adult shows. 3 movies were rotating between the poolside screen and the theater. Dumbo, Return of Mary Poppins and Creed II. LOTS of trivia and karaoke going on in the lounges. We were blessed to have perfect weather, hardly a cloud in the sky with temps in the upper 70's. Our total wait time to disembark was about 15 minutes ( it was well organized). All in all it exceeded our expectations. And we are known as being hard to please.

I agree. absolutely loved the Key on Allure back in May at $19.99... would likely go as high as $24.99. We wanted VOOM so it was an easy decision at less than $10/day for all of the other nice perks. Wow, an especially hot topic recently!
