Pfft. Change the wedding date..  Nothing gets in the way of a cruise. 

Scheduled to leave YYZ at 930am. Scheduled to arrive at FLL at 1215pm.
 
At about noon we are cleared for approach. Then we go into a holding pattern for an hour due to t-storms in Fort Lauderdale. After an hour of left turns we are almost out of fuel. We have to land at MCO for jet fuel and to wait out the storm.
 
We landed safely but by the time our bags were off the carousel it was 4pm.  If we were flying in the day of departure we would have missed the ship!

I'm going to suggest that if RCI thought they could make more money sailing from the West Coast then were their ships are currently deployed, they'd be there. Hell, they probably would have never left.

They aren't forcing anyone to purchase it...they are just prohibiting others from buying it unless everyone over 21 purchases it.

If someone is a recovering alcoholic that really isn't RCI's problem. 
They offer meeting places for Friend's of Bill W. on every ship.
If someone is a recovering alcoholic, perhaps their cabin mate shouldn't want to purchase the package?
My wife drinks a bit. I drink quite a bit on vacation. I get my monies worth. She doesn't come close. If this policy is rolled out fleetwide then we won't buy the package. No one is being forced to do anything they don't want. You just pay a la carte for each drink.
For the record, I do not like the policy. I am a big fan of the current system that doesn't require both to purchase it.. but.. RCI's primary responsibility is to their shareholders. They have to make money, and if they can't make more money using this set up then that is what they will do.
 
I'm not sure what is so difficult to understand. 

They can't force you. They just won't allow the person who wants to buy the package to purchase it.
Nothing illegal about that.

The food at JR's is nothing special. When I first started cruising it was 4.95. Now it is 7.95. The quality hasn't gone up to justify the increase in the price. Many would argue it was gone down.
 
RCI is getting their you know what  handed to them by Carnvial in the burger joint ... Guy Fieri's burger place on Carnival ships is apparently AMAZING and it is INCLUDED. Rave reviews about it across the board while JR has seen a steady decrease in quality and increase in negative feedback.

They are advertising  a big time headliner to perform a special concert.
 
I wonder if Bonnie Tyler is available?
