I don't like it better. It's part of the rhythm of cruising for us. It's one of the things that makes us feel pampered on a cruise. My wife and I will miss it.

I'm still waiting for one from my Anthem cruise in December '21.

So I was just looking at dining for my upcoming cruises...
Anthem - December '23 --> Dining not yet available
Icon - June '24 --> Chops, Giovanni's, Izumi, Hooked, Izumi Hibachi
Symphony - October '24 --> Dining not yet available
How is Icon dining available when 1) it hasn't been completely built yet, 2) they haven't announced the dining venues, and 3) it's 6+ months after my cruise in December '23?

Is there still a lot of hurricane damage on the French side?
I'm going to say YES. Not so much that it's a mess. More that it hasn't been repaired.
It was explained to me like this... France paid out to the people on the French side immediately and they took the money and ran. On the Dutch side, the Netherlands basically said, "calm down, let's assess the situation and we will get everyone their money." Sounds like a negative thing, but it encouraged those on the Dutch side to breathe and decide their next best course of action. Most stayed and rebuilt and you can tell the difference.

We just finished our crew, and paid for a cab to take us to Marigot. With four kids it was really kind of a waste of time. The shops were mediocre, and we were probably just better off shopping in Phillipsburg and saving ourselves the Cab fare. We still met a few people and I got a chance to flex my French a little but in the end we were very happy to just get back on the boat.
Yes, Marigot is a bit of a bombed out shell of what it once was.
By the way, we did Captain Bob's and it was GREAT! We did have two incidents, one where a young woman with our group got injured on the reef and needed a bit of a rescue, and another where a couple took a boat out from one of the hotels, the guy couldn't restart the motor and the wife was snorkeling a good 300 yards away and the boat was floating off in the opposite direction. Made for an interesting day.

So let's think about an 18 year old that would be eligible to inherit their parent's diamond status. This teenager must have parents that cruised often enough to reach diamond BUT did most or all of their cruising before having their children or they left their children home for most of their days at sea. Otherwise, this teenager would likely have enough points to qualify as diamond on their own and not need to inherit the status. So how likely is that scenario? Royal is a pretty family oriented cruise line. I could be wrong but I don't think a lot of parents are taking Royal cruises while leaving their kids at home. Royal is never going to release numbers, but I would bet there are more people inheriting status through marriage/living together than through their parents.
We cruised both pre-kids and without our kids (thanks grandparents!). Sure, we're not necessarily a good cross-section, but I know a lot of people in the same "boat" as we are.

It's likely that it will post sooner and you'll have it for the cruise. It may not show on your card, though. And of course, maybe it won't be processed in time. Either way I would say hello to the Loyalty Ambassador on the ship and let them know you're a new Diamond member. Congrats!

Our "kids", 26 and 23, have our status, D+. What's interesting is that my daughter was older than 18 when we turned D+. I assume an oopsie by Royal that I won't correct them on. They have kept their status and will keep it no matter their points until they have enough for Pinnacle. If that ever happens.
My son and his girlfriend just came back from a cruise. When (and if) they get married she will indeed get to share his D+ status.

Either one is great! For 400-500 less, I'd go with the cheaper one. You can always do an Oasis-class next and compare!

This is weird. We have 4 Royal cruises booked for 23/24 and ZERO Celebrity. First time in a long time I don't have a Celebrity cruise on the horizon. May need to rectify that situation!

My fiancée and I will be on this cruise. Not my first time cruising but it is the first time on Royal Caribbean.
May I ask, why did you choose this ship/itinerary for your first Royal Caribbean cruise?

I assumed that was the case, especially since I specifically recall this odd 99.75 amount as a credit card authorization hold that I experienced on Mariner several times
I never mind the holds, especially since I use a rewards program that gives me points for every authorization hold I get, so it blows up when I'm cruising
Initially, that's what I thought also. But when I asked that, they said it was on the account. Oh well.

I'm curious how it posted to their onboard account..as in what was the line item description? Can they screenshot the charge from the onboard account in the app and send that to you?
So based on this I messaged them and asked for a screenshot. Guess what? It was a credit card hold! Sorry everyone. But I’m glad it was cleared up.

Will be on Mariner 1/23 and will watch for it.
Let me know if you see it occur. Thanks.

This is why I prefer to have a paper Compass over the app, although they are now offering the Compass via a QR code, but to me it is not the same as paper
But the paper Compass says the hold will be put on the credit card, not a charge to the onboard account.

Could it possibly be just for NYE sailings? Anticipation of some guests taking more than full advantage of the drink packages so they just added it to everyone's account to be sure?
Sailed on 1/2.

Right, I meant that if there was some mass errant billing, maybe GS decided to explain it as something intentional, not a mistake.
Certainly possible.

Maybe it's a new policy. Or maybe GS was trying to save face.
Based on GS reaction, they weren't the only ones that asked about it. Maybe a new policy. That's why I came here to talk about it.

Maybe it was just some accounting screw up if others had the same issue.
I was on Mariner last week and nothing was any different.No. Guest Services said it was specifically a security deposit against any damages to the cabin.

NEVER. So this must be something new and perhaps applies to a certain age group thats more prone to "party up" in their stateroom? This is common in most hotels now, so this would not totally surprise me. I think we have all seen evidence of ratted up rooms over the years.... ie stains on couches, chairs, kids marking up walls, curtains, smoke burns on chairs/tables balcony, ....yup seen it all.
My thought too. But the cruise they're on isn't filled with 20-somethings. At least not what they've seen so far. And when they went to Guest Services, their question was anticipated. Which could mean that many asked OR looking at them their age was guessed. We'll probably never know.
Once a Day Room Cleaning. We like it better!

Exactly my thought. Aren't 3/4 of the cabins going to request mornings? Then what? Will they be begging people to switch to evenings? And if that's the normal amount, what happens when it's 18 of 19 on one random sailing? The cabin steward is going to be beside themselves trying to figure this all out.
