Carlos A. got a reaction from JLMoran in Chair hogs? Nooooooooooo!
    I totally agree.
As for the misbehaving unsupervised children I just don't get it. I was on Harmony a week ago, on Grease show you are supposed to have a reservation, that means that the kids inside should be with their parents. There were like 5 kids in the front row throwing popcorn to each other... Ok, that is a normal behavior for a kid, but when they ran out of popcorn the started to throw their beverages each other spilling all over the chairs, other passengers and the floor.
At this point I was expecting a parent to show up and put some order. Nothing happened, not even a RC staff did anything, they kept screaming, running, and hassling each other and other passengers until they got bored (obviously) and got out. ?

While clearly not the case in the original photo of this post, one challenge is that people will place towels on a lounger and then jump in a pool or hot tub.  On a hot day floating in the pool for a while is quite normal.
This isn't meant to defend the chair hogs of the world.  Clearly dropping towels at 7am or when pools aren't even open yet is not an example of someone who is actively using the pool deck while also consuming a lounger.
It's easy to just say "Royal should do X" but Royal isn't in the business of alienating guests and aggressively enforcing the rules will likely catch some innocent people in that net.  Royal publishes many rules for guests to follow on board and they hope guests will follow them.   This isn't the only example of guests ignoring the rules at the expense of those guests that do.   Unsupervised children who are misbehaving is another rule breaking item that irritates me.  Well behaved children are always welcome.
At the end of the day we all have to get along onboard and be aware of our impact to other guests in the actions we take.  Like in all things in life, some people are more considerate than others.  Just ask anyone who commutes the same drive everyday.

I received my email yesterday for my January 24th sailing on Granduer. Instead of Coco Cay, we are doing Grand Bahamas. No email about the November 1st sailing on the Granduer. This itinerary already has a stop in Miami. I went to grad school there and lived in South Beach for years, so will say hi to friends and old colleagues. I am sorry for those who really don’t want Miami. I don’t blame you, it is def not a lazy beach day. You could grab a cab/Lyft/Uber and head to the beach. Stay south of fifth or go to mid Beach. Lincoln Rd runs perpendicular to the beach and is a pedestrian walk/mall with boutiques, lounges, cafes, eateries, art galleries, etc. I lived on the corner of Lincoln & Collins right on the beach across from the Ritz. Lincoln is much more local than touristy. Ocean Dr is a mecca for rip-off high prices. Walk along to see if you like, then at the end, between 16th & 17th, hang a left, walk west and do Lincoln. Collins & Washington (parallel to the ocean) has hotels, clubs, restaurants and stores.

Carlos A. got a reaction from twangster in Anticipated Changes to Ovation as it moves to Alaska?
Last week, at the NextCruise office on Harmony I talked with someone who had a manager id and asked him what changes there would be on Ovation next year.
He told me that only some small changes will take places. Nothing about a Broadway show or anything else. It doesn't matter, it's a great ship and an awesome trip.

On my last cruise on Harmony, I was at the pool at around 8 am on a sea day and planned on staying at the pool most of the day.  I had my laptop to get some work done, my headphones, a book, and my drink package.  So I was set for the long haul.  I found a decent spot for my wife and I, although there were not many available at 8 am.  The two chairs next to us had towels and sandals on them, much like the pictures above.  Other than a few trips to the bathroom, I never left my area (I skipped lunch).  At around 3 pm two older people finally showed up to those chairs, picked up their towels and shoes, and left.  They didn't even sit in the chairs.  These were in a shaded area, so pretty prime real estate.  I wanted to say something to them, but I was so stunned that by the time I got over my shock they were gone.  I do not understand how people can be that rude.  I pray that karma comes around on people like that.

I love Xcaret and if you've never been would recommend going. I've been there about half a dozen times.  There is so much to do and see....it's a little like a Caribbean Disney-park (with no rides, obviously).  You can relax on the beach, go tubing in the caves, see music and arts demonstrations, walk through the Day of the Dead displays....just very very cool and educational and fun and relaxing.  That being said, i see the tour is eight hours, but if it is taking two hours to get there and two hours to get back, leaving you only four hours in the park, then I would skip it and put it on your list for another trip of it's own.  No tour is worth wasting four hours of vacation time in travel.  (Boo....sorry).  Let me know if I am misunderstood.

Check this tour, Courtney- Taylor Tour to Blue Hole.  Yes. it took 2 hours but really interesting to see loco village and I shopped Coffee Beans which sold double price at port!!
On the way back, we saw  “ tube river” and asked him to stop. Kids having a great time.  I’ll sure to use this company next time.

I tried this strategy on my cruise in March.  I was cruising with kids so I figured the deluxe package wasn't going to be worth it.  Anyway, I don't know if I would do this again in the future.  A shot of whatever costs about $7.95 plus 18% grats, so $9.38.  This is what you would pay each time you add a shot with the refreshment package.  If you want a margarita or something that has more than one shot it is even less worth your while.  I guess it really depends on how "occasionally" you would be adding a shot....

Carlos A. reacted to hayley_bopp in Question about cabin assignment. Should I be worried?
Haven't been on HoTS but had a look on deck plans: it's got cabins above and below and is away from elevators with only a few cabins past it so unlikely to get much foot traffic past the cabin.

    I'd be happy with that.

Carlos A. reacted to twangster in “Suite Lounge” ........
I'm not sure I see the problem.
I can see it in Concierge Lounges on ships that don't have a Suite Lounge such as Anthem. I can see the hoards of D+ and P plus suite guests creating a very packed CL.
RCI has already alienated some of the D+ level by converting CL into SL and denying D+ access to the very room they used to be able to access simply by changing its name.  That I think was a reasonable measure to create a better suite experience.  As a new D+ member myself I'm okay with this but it does have many long term D+ members talking about this "reduction in benefits".  As more and more CL disappear across the fleet I can see how this is being interpreted by those D+ folks.
Pinnacles tend to gravitate to certain sailings, especially "hometown favorites".  For Galveston or Bayonne I suspect P numbers are elevated compared to FL where there are many cruise ports and even more ships to distribute the P load across.
In many cases I see Pinnacle in the D lounge despite an SL right across the hall.  In some cases I think they are there for the social aspects of the DL where friends who haven't made it to P are hanging out.
I've only had SL access on Oasis class ships.  I'm not sure I even noticed there was Pinnacle present on those occasions.  I know of one P guy I met on my 1st RCI cruise and a year later saw him on Harmony in the SL.  We talked and joked at the SL bar for hours.  I certainly never felt like they were impacting my use of the SL or the Suite sundeck on Oasis class.
In my opinion Pinnacles have paid their dues by sailing a lot and I mean a lot.  Royal needs to reward such loyalty and the hundreds of thousands these folks have paid over the years compared to someone who drops $6k every couple of years for a GS.  As such I am fine with the current system.

We did Rose Hall several years ago.  It was OK.  It was our first time to Jamaica and it was a little depressing.  If we were to ever go again.  I think we would just stay in the port area and then hang out on the ship.

If the Hyatt's are sold out I would probably pick the Hilton, just name brand recognition, I'm sure the other are fine or they wouldn't be on the page.

In the past Red Stripe Beach was the default or go to Beach transfer.  That beach was consumed by a hotel being constructed next to it so RCI stopped offering Red Stripe Beach transfers.  The way I see it, this is the replacement excursion of a similar nature but now offered in an all-inclusive and transfer-only versions.  Red Stripe was transfer only.
I've not been to this beach so I can't provide more insight but it's something I might try on my next stop there.

Made reservation through this web site.
I don't know if Royal offers resorts for a day type of excursions, I'm sure they might on some islands.
I'm Diamond level and feel comfortable making and booking excursions by myself, I looked at Google maps and the resort I picked is about a 20 minute taxi ride, so I figured I was in pretty good shape to be on time for the departure, but you might not be comfortable, I understand...

Falmouth is a port where I always try to do an excursion.  There are no beaches close by without transportation of some sort.
If you are the type of person who prefers booking through Royal you can preview their Falmouth excursion offers here:
    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/findacruise/destinations/shoreExcursions/subGateWayByPort/search.do?LocationCode=FMT&pager.offset=0
Blue Water Beach is close by and offered as transportation only or all-inclusive:
    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/shoreExcursions/product/detail/view.do?sourcePage=shorexByPort&ProductCode=FYQ8&DestinationCode=
    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/shoreExcursions/product/detail/view.do?sourcePage=shorexByPort&ProductCode=FYY9&DestinationCode=
They have other beach excursions but pay attention to drive time depending on where the resort or beach is.

Reservations are made by going to www.resortforaday.com, selecting the resort you want to book a day at, and paying through that site. They handle the reservation work and getting everything set up, so that pretty much all you need to worry about when you get to the port is just making your way to the resort and checking in.

I'm doing "resortforaday", picked one of the resorts that accepts kids because I will have my Grandson with me on this cruise (Hyatt Ziva), otherwise I would have selected an adults only.
If you research Dunn's Rivers fall or the Blue Hole, it seemed like the drive was 2 hours and the cost was not favorable. I would have loved to do Dunn's River again to relive a moment from our past but didn't want the long bus ride (Or Taxi).

Don't judge MTD based on the first night as it is a bit chaotic.  The first night I am always there 15 minutes before my reservation as there are long lines (unless you have a 5:30-5:45 reservation then it isn't too bad).  Have one person wait in the line and the other go get a few glasses of wine to bring into dinner.  After that first night, MTD will be smooth with no lines and your wait staff will know your preferences. I think our first night was 90 minutes and that was the longest dinner of the week.
