Cousin got off of Anthem this past Sunday and said part way through the week crew put on n95 under their normal mask.  This is a step backwards for crew.  I was on the ship for 2 weeks prior to this cousin and the first week observed the “quarantine meals” for deck 3 going through the deck 3 dining room through the corridor door.  That same sailing numerous people reported testing positive post  cruise (no, I do not believe it was related)  .  My second week a lot of people reported testing positive post cruise.  My cousins cruise this past week, she reported 75 families quarantined onboard.  I’m not sure how accurate that number is.  Bottom line, I don’t see Royal  unmasking their crew anytime soon. That’s just my opinion though.

Makes sense...Anthem is Orange on the CDC tracking meaning they are under investigation until case load goes below 1% of the crew or 0.3% of total passengers. https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/cruise-ship-color-status.html

Does the solarium on Symphony have chairs all the way forward that are not under glass cover? I recall I was on an Oasis class ship in the past that had solarium loungers out in open like that.

the entire solarium on Symphony is under glass. the only outdoor spaces forward that are accessible from there are the bridge wings.

  3. Moving to Emerald from Platinum (would be diamond now if not for you know what) in two weeks, and my plan is to put the pins I get on my rattiest RC hat, wear it on the beach, get sea water on it and let them get nasty.

I've had MDR lunches with several Pinnacles on cruises and find the ones I've met to be really nice and great sources of knowledge, especially ones who you have to drag their status out of them.

  4. I love Radiance Class from my limited experience, and Empress also remains my favorite ship because of the reasons stated above. The Schooner Bar and Boleros on that ship is unmatched on any, and I loved the outdoor deck behind Boleros. The crew was great, and the fact that I could get from one end of the ship to the other in a minute or two if walking slowly was a huge plus. I really wanted to Sail on Empress again, but that won't happen.

We are sailing on Navigator on 4/1 and I noticed that the app shows that Jamie's Italian is open for lunch on day 1 - 12:00-2:00. Wondering if anyone knows if this is correct and if so is it the regular menu. Looking at options for lunch on day 1 other than Windjammer.

The Day 1 cruise planner from a January sailing shows that it is open at noon on embarkation day along with Cafe Promenade. I would bet that it is open. It is next to the Windjammer, so it will be easy to determine your preference if it is based on the crowd.

Oh!  I didn't realize that you can book the same restaurant for first and second dinner!  Good to know!

It wort of worked out that way since I booked Izumi Hibachi first and UDP second. I later found that on Indy, Izumi Hibachi is included in the UDP, but I am not cancelling because I don't want to give up the spot. I will try to get it credited to OBC on board, and if they don't do that, I will chalk it up to learning expense.

A group of people walking strung out across the Promenade when it's busy.

Someone wandering down the Promenade with their head in their phone, not watching where they are going is a close second..

It's this and the slow walkers who are oblivious that they are taking up a thoroughfare of any kind anywhere else...turning in front of people without looking behind them...

There was a time when I was called to the naughty room on embarkation about something I packed that I didn't realize was verbotten (totally my fault), and I witnessed another passenger SCREAMING at security about a hair dryer. they were there when I got there and were still screaming when I left. The security guy just let them make fools of themselves and took the hair dryer. It was the most uncalled for thing I've seen on a ship, and I can't stand any rudeness directed toward crew.

  8. This might be a simplistic solution, but it seems like in this case, the DR could allow NCL to put the passengers without passports on to another ship that is not sailing right now. Who knows if that's a cheaper solution than the flight charters and headaches of dealing with the situation. If they still have idle ships, maybe its a preparedness issue. It seems like food could be transferred from the Escape.

DUO has a feature where the app will generate a code you can manually enter rather than using the default PUSH action.  Have you explored that?  It's still MFA but the app on the phone becomes a token generator like the old RSA key fobs that once were popular.

that functionality appears to exist after our IT reconfigured it for push universally in our organization, but in testing it, there is an invalid credential notice. I feel like I will have to do some experimentation with it on board.

If it's an MFA text thing, is it possible to add another MFA option like google authenticator, then you wouldn't need the internet connection?

I have done it. It's a pain and requires my MFA device (cell) to have wifi calling set up, turned on and actually working to where I can receive texts over the wifi connection. Mine is hit or miss that it actually has the texts come through over the wifi connection. Fortunately I can authenticate once and if I click to keep it authenticated for 30 days and time it right it's fine. I always do it when I first board to try and get the text while I have cell service still just in case. I have found when I jump over to the 2nd device on my VOOM to retrieve the text and I jump back onto the other device it doesn't have any issues with the temporary break in wifi connection as long as I didn't navigate away from the page that was waiting for the code.

My employer requires the use of an app called DUO installed on a smartphone or tablet for independent authentication of credentials. I can't think of a way to do push or independent login code generation without having two VOOM accounts.
