GaryAA reacted to twangster in New CDC Guidance, no masks, no distancing...does it make a difference?
I suspect we'll find many departments within the CDC are isolated and have no awareness what another part of the CDC is doing.
In this case the Political Directives Division has updated mask guidance while the Cruise Denial Division is still looking to add more protocols.

We started out on Carnival cruises with our two daughters in a bunk bed cabin with a porthole. When we switched to Royal, we got our first balcony cabin on the Mariner and loved it. We enjoy stargazing at night and watching the ship dock in port. We now get a Junior suite and like them although we have a few cruises booked in grand suites. I would not hesitate to go back to a standard balcony room though.

Double book people in the same cabin?
That would only happen if Royal IT made a mistake.
On the flip side maybe I could get lucky and booked into the same cabin with a hot, single woman.  And I mean hot, not one with hot flashes.

A difference in Europe with the summer 2021 sailings are the completely different nature of the itinerary.
For the purpose of this thread and cruises from the US they can't do cruises to nowhere or domestic only cruises.  If ships sail in the US it will be to somewhere.
I don't think they'll cancel US cruises and try to resell them on short notice.  That never works well.  I think very few of the July/August sail dates are 100% sold out or at capacity now so they they aren't starting with a full ship.  Some will cancel or use CWC if they sail, some have already CWC'd their cruises.  Worst case finds them needing to trim some bookings but I suspect a lot of that will be done naturally.

Here's another one ....... Greece is a CDC designated Level 4 - don't travel there country. Greece just opened to international travelers including Americans today. If you can show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test you can travel to Greece and don't have to quarantine. Are Greek public health officials idiots? Nope, the Greek government has correctly ascertained that the cost of restricting tourism in Greece, fearing SARS2 transmission from travel associated mobility, is higher than the cost of dealing with the low risk that vaccinated or even unvaccinated tourists with proof of being COVID free will spread SARS2.
This is rational and pragmatic. The Greek government could stand as a shining example to the US government and the irrationality of the US CDC driving the Biden Administrations irrational public health policy that is locking down the cruise industry.

I believe Jill to be right. They are having a tantrum they can't control the whole world. Today the Congress added a bill to the Senate one trying to bring this to an end. It doesn't bod well to have multiple states suing then bills from both house and senate looking to clip their wings.  Bahama numbers very low. Their peak came in October with five times as many active cases as they have now (2500 vs 450). Most days have no deaths. About 40 new cases a day nation wide...  CDC are behaving like spoiled children who's toys are being taken away...

GaryAA got a reaction from SuzanneM in Any junior spa suites on Odyssey?
I assume the one I have booked on the Odyssey in March 2022 is a spa junior suite like the Anthem and Ovation. The deck plan is slightly different than those ships though. Cruisedeckplans.com shows the junior suite you are mentioning (assuming this information is correct). You are right though, can't find any information on it.

GaryAA reacted to twangster in Anthem Jan. 5, 2020 11 Nights Southern Caribbean - RECAP
    Day 11 - Sea Day
Our final day is upon us.
Curious.  Anthem goes into dry dock in April yet they are replacing the Windjammer carpet on this sailing.  Over several nights they've been tackling various sections of the WJ and now it appears complete.  Their stash of carpet in a corner of the SeaPlex has been dwindling night after night.

For reference the temperature is down to 61°F.  Out here away from land a big influencer on air temperature is the sea.  Absent of any land mass to heat up and change temperatures, the temperature of the sea is the most significant factor in the air temperature.
Many people always ask what will weather be like when sailing from Bayonne?  Absent of a weather system the temperature of the sea will likely determine how it feels on board.  Search for ocean temperatures and you'll get a baseline of what to expect.

    Beautiful conditions again today.

Captain's Corner in two70° to a full house.

Several guests made comments related to Captain Srecko and his presence around the ship.  He frequently walked through Coastal Kitchen during dinner and apparently did the same in the MDR.  Not only is he a great mariner but he is also a great host around the ship.
The topic of his Flowrider and iFly skills came up and Mitch our CD noted the Captain doesn't simply use the Flowrider or iFly, he must inspect them from time to time.
One guest made the mistake of calling Anthem "a boat".  The Captain stopped Mitch from answering the question.  "If there was just one person on a ship who would that be?" he asked - The Captain.  "If there was just one person on a boat?" he then asked - A frustrated husband.   It was all in good fun.
At any rate Captain Srecko is well liked by the guests.

I like the Mariner, it was my first Royal cruise. I’ve been on several Voyager and Freedom class ships after that cruise. My TA kept telling me to try an Oasis class ship but I resisted until finally trying out the Harmony and Symphony when they first came out.  They are probably my favorite ships in the fleet. I would not hesitate to go on the Mariner though if it was a good route.

I really wish the casino was non-smoking. We cruised on the Carnival Paradise when it was 100% non-smoking ship which was great. As much as I like to play blackjack, I avoid the casinos when there is smoking allowed. Yes, I can smell it on the non-smoking side too.

I'm hesitant to draw conclusions for Odyssey based on any previous ship in this class.  I suspect the JS layout will be similar but unfortunately we won't know until guests provide real world feedback.

I hate hate hate it that Royal Caribbean allows smoking in the casinos. One, because I'd love to play. But besides that, I can smell it wafting into the Royal Promenade from the ships that have that spiral staircase from the Promenade into the Casino.
So I don't agree that their air filtration system before was great, and I hope that it gets better from here.

I failed to mention in my previous post, we fly home from Key West so we don't have to drive back to Miami. Adding Key West to a cruise is enjoyable. We've done it several times.
