I'm a budget traveler so I get you....

Juneau- On my first trip to Juneau I took the city bus to the fish hatchery, and later took the Glacier Express to Mendenhall did a bit of walking around, and ate salmon. That whole day was like less than $60. Unless you have your heart set on certain vendors, don't prebook as there are a ton of kiosks in Juneau of people trying to sell you tickets to different things like whale watching, rafting, helicopter rides, and tours. On my 2nd trip I did the canoe trip to Mendenhall since I regretted not doing it. While it was fun, you could just hike to Mendenhall. I would have done it, but I'm lazy. On my next trip I plan to just go to Gold Creek for the all you can eat salmon (RC has it listed at $47 which is cheaper than booking direct as the going rate is $56), and walk around Cope Park which is a nice walk from what I hear from the pier. I'd consider doing the Mt. Roberts Tram, but so many of Alaska's activities are based on the weather in my experience so if the weather is nice and not overcast , maybe book the tram.

Skagway- First trip did a ghost tour which was a lot of fun and didn't cost a lot. Ended the day by going on the train to White Pass. Definitely not cheap, but I did the cheaper option ($130) which was shorter but enough for me. On my 2nd trip I did the 6 hour bus version of the train ride but went into Canada. Tour was called Yukon Klondike Adventure by Bus through Chilkoot Charters & Tours and cost me $95. Included an all you can eat lunch which was really good. They have a half bus/half rail option as well. Anyway was a long day but fun. If I did it again I'd just eat on the ship, walk around town, and if possible rent a car.
sitka- Never been but will be going on my next trip. I plan to do the Raptor Center, Fortress of the Bear, and the cathedral. From what I read their are cheap shuttle buses.Eat on ship to save $$.

Victoria- same as above. You don't get a lot of time in Victoria so my only plan is to go to the gardens. If there were more time I would have added on whale watching but I could skip it (done my fair share of whale watching...only want to see killer whales).

In any case, don't book direct through the cruise unless you have to.

You also can rent a car but when I looked into it, they were always sold out (I did check for cancellations). Not a big deal. I enjoyed getting a tour hearing information.

I don't know why I never thought about doing this. I'm a party of 1 and too cheap to spend the $10 for it but on the day of, I'd gladly pay it. Good idea.

Correction, $44 was the 2018 price.

Looked over past cruises.  In 2019 it was $44 so given inflation and the pandemic situation $47 seems pretty reasonable 2 years later.
$44 was the "standard" 10% off pre-cruise price.  Onboard likely higher.

I've cruised solo a few times and any event I tried to go to was poorly attended. The last one was a trivia where there were a bunch of couples which in my opinion is the exact opposite of what was expected. Most definitely not looking for a relationship while cruising but I do love meeting people.

I'm not trying to be rude, but many people go on cruises alone. This is why cruise lines have started adding studio cabins when they didn't previously. In any case, I'm not trying to find a relationship. It was just nice to hang out with people who were also alone after finding them in a group knowing they were alone.

I didn't actually go to any of the events but walked through one. Anyway I would say there was about 30 people and a good chunk were in the 30s or so.

My wife had passed away 6 months before so was not really something I paid much attention to.

Have traveled a few times solo in the past and I would say that its rare to even find or notice them. Would be hard to say who is at the bar or meeting place that is there for the solo meets ups or just hanging out and has no idea others are there to meet up with other solo cruisers..lol.

My husband and I were in Vintages one evening for a pre-dinner drink-around 5 or 5:30 to the best of my recollection-on Oasis.  We were the only people there.  After we'd been there for a while, a woman walked in and asked if we were there for the singles get together.  Obviously, that one was not well attended at all.

I don't recall seeing any brand labeling on the cartons when they were taken out of the fridge for my daily morning cappuccino. Just large print indicating it's the lactose free type.
I think their lactose free milk is 2%, not skim. Just making that judgement based on the taste / feel of the cappuccino, and the fact they were still able to froth the milk quite well (which is generally impossible with skim milk).

    Room service!
I know this probably sounds crazy given the embarkation day hecticness, but (and maybe it's cuz we get a suite) the food comes fairly quick and is always yummy. Plus we can unpack while waiting for the food to arrive (if luggage has made it to us) or just chill after the adventure of getting on the ship without bumping into the EVERYBODY. lol.
In fact, in all 3 past cruises, we rarely left our room before muster because the boarding process just crowded all the halls.
