I most always book Ocean View Balcony. I have Boardwalk View Balcony rooms booked on Oasis. But there were 3 times I did Promenade View Interior and twice just an Ocean View.

In total, including as much as I've managed to track, which includes airfare when needed, hotel stays when needed, transportation, parking, drink/internet packages (so far have always purchase the deluxe beverage package and VOOM SURF+STREAM every single time), and the occasional unlimited dining package, plus insurance costs, onboard incidentals, and gratuities... and in reality I have no doubt there's probably well more than $1,000 across all that I've not tracked well. But those would truly be very incidental expenses. But not including any (very occasional) gambling expenses. And I suppose one day I may go back through it all and fine tune it a bit when I can identify some missing items (sometimes it's more difficult to attribute some costs, like if I'm combining a cruise trip with a business trip, how should I attribute airfare, for instance).

Anyway based on what I have been tracking I will have spent $74,452.10 to reach Pinnacle Club status when I do reach it this coming January, on my 31st Royal Caribbean sailing with a total of 259 cruise nights since October 2016.

    Calculating my "Crystal @nnn" column:

Column M is the current point total, so the above $M30 is the point total at the end of the current sailing, $M29 is the point total at the end of the prior sailing.
I'm kinda laughing that our point totals are actually both in column M in our completely different spreadsheets.

(Sorry, had to post the formula as an image because cloudflare detects something in there as an SQL attack. Someone has configured some really poorly-created script to look for such things.)

Nicci reacted to twangster in And there go the Crystal Blocks...
I'm a Mac user so my spreadsheet is in Apple Numbers format but more importantly I don't trust certain file types when shared in the wild since some can contain malicious code.  I would never download a strangers spreadsheet so by the same token I don't share spreadsheets.  I've also discovered that conditional formatting rules don't seem to survive very well when converting between Excel and Numbers and a lot of the magic in my spreadsheet is based on conditional formatting.
My spreadsheet also has a life of its own.  It's evolved several times.  As different things become important to me I move columns around and track things like fees and taxes to make it easier to check for price drops by displaying the unloaded (pre-tax) base fare.
There is a probably a more efficient way to calculate the glass block or not column.
To contain the size of the formula I have adjusted the range used in different areas of my spreadsheet.  My past cruising isn't going to change so there was no need to build on this to cover the range from 140 to some future potential larger value with a really long formula so I just manipulate the same formula as I venture into new territory.
An earlier version for lower points (140 to 700):
    IF(AND($M17<140,$M18≥140),"Block",IF(AND($M17<210,$M18≥210),"Block",IF(AND($M17<280,$M18≥280),"Block",IF(AND($M17<350,$M18≥350),"Block",IF(AND($M17<420,$M18≥420),"Block",IF(AND($M17<490,$M18≥490),"Block",IF(AND($M17<560,$M18≥560),"Block",IF(AND($M17<630,$M18≥630),"Block",IF(AND($M17<700,$M18≥700),"Block","")))))))))
Column M is my C&A points tally.  It looks at my last point count and my next point count to see if I crossed a block threshold.  This is combined with a conditional formatting rule to turn the cell green when text "Block" is present that the formula above populates into the cell.

The problem with this early version is that I was lazy and used ">" which produced errors when my point count was exactly on a block threshold so my later versions included "greater than or equal to" and "less than or equal to".   As I climbed higher I updated the range (700 to 1,470).
    IF(AND($M73≤699,$M74≥700),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤769,$M74≥770),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤839,$M74≥840),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤909,$M74≥910),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤979,$M74≥980),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1049,$M74≥1050),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1119,$M74≥1120),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1189,$M74≥1190),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1259,$M74≥1260),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1329,$M74≥1330),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1339,$M74≥1400),"Block",IF(AND($M73≤1469,$M74≥1470),"Block",""))))))))))))
The rest of the spreadsheet is pretty simple math and columns that are important to me.
I have a column that tracks Voom purchases.  To date in my RCI lifetime I have spent over $4k on Voom.  Gulp.
I have a column that records if I have purchased the drink package.  My run rate is 27% on the deluxe drink packages.
How many days until my next Royal Caribbean cruise?  Yep, I have a column for that.
I have columns that record the cabin type which allows to calculate how often I stay in each type of cabin.  As C&A balcony discounts have improved I have stayed in balcony cabins more often and the spreadsheet confirms that.
I often see people claim that you can reach Pinnacle by staying in cheap interior cabins then they find the cheapest interior price and do some simple calculation.  It's never that simple.  Those ultra cheap interior cruises don't occur every week or even every month.  If I had limited myself to just ultra cheap cruises I'd be way down in the points race.  On my way to Pinnacle my cabin breakdown was:

So much for getting there on ultra cheap interior bookings...
How much did Pinnacle cost?  I'm not saying, but my spreadsheet knows.
    My columns include:
Booking #, Base Fare, Taxes/Fees, Deposit type, FCC (yes/no if applied), Start Date, End Date, Duration, Points, Countdown, Cruise #, Total C&A Points, Glass Block, Price All In, Price per night, Price per point,  FCC Balance, Cruise Balance, Final Payment Due Date, Voom Cost, Cabin Category, Cabin #,  Interior, OV, Balcony, Suite, Prepaid Gratuity
My C&A Points Column has conditional formatting rules that change the background color to match C&A colors:

When cruises cancel I cut and paste them off to a lower section that doesn't contribute to my metrics but allows me to retain a record for future reference.
Half the fun of cruising is planning the cruise.  For me some of the fun is also tracking it all and feeding my spreadsheet.
Tracking FCC application is also critical as cruises have cancelled and FCC is reissued or combined and then reissued.  You definitely want to track all that.

Nicci reacted to twangster in And there go the Crystal Blocks...
My spreadsheet uses a formula to write the word Block into a cell and then conditional formatting rules makes it appear or disappear.  My points column looks at cruise duration and depending on cabin type and date relative to the dates of the double points promo it automatically calculates the bonus multiplier.
When they extended the date of the double points promo i just corrected one cell and all my new blocks updated. It also colors my points background to match the CAS color at each level.
If I insert or remove a cruise it recalculates the block projection automatically.

I also note the deposit type and if I applied an FCC so I know to be careful with that booking.

It also calculates the price per night and price per C&A point then applies a color background based on fixed price ranges.  The greener it is the better the deal it is.

    I may have a problem.

The video above has all the relevant information as to why single supplements exist.
Listing yourself twice would raise flags and create issues when you begin to check in for the cruise in the weeks or months before the cruise departs  If a guest with that name and birthdate has already started the online check in process, it's impossible for the same guest to check in a second time.  Ultimately a manifest of passengers is created and sent to government authorities for immigration purposes.  Manifests are also the basis for safety protocols such as ensuring every guest has a seat available in a lifeboat in case of an emergency.  The check in systems would see this glaring mistake and not allow the second duplicate guest to start the check in process. At that point it is caught and they could force the cruise to be repriced for what is really occurring - one guest in that cabin.  Busted.
The fake guest approach using a different name clears these check in hurdles.  You and your made up cabin mate can both check in for the cruise.  On the day of the cruise at the pier when you are boarding it's easy enough to say something like "They had a family emergency, the other guest isn't going to make it" or "I told them not to fly in the day of the cruise but they didn't listen and this morning they missed their flight" or "...the airline cancelled their flight and they aren't going to make it".
My first encounter with this did actually see my cabin mate have a family emergency the day before the cruise.  We fully intended to cruise together, had booked excursions together and made other purchases since it was our intention to cruise together.  When they didn't make it I ended up solo and I was given double points.
Since then the only time I used the fake guest trick was for a guarantee rate that wasn't open for solo cruisers to book.
Guarantee rates allow the the cruise line to advertise heavily discounted fares essentially at a loss hoping that once those two guests are on board they'll spend money to cover that loss.  Their ship, their rules.

Locks yes, the Bridge of the Americas, no.
Technically Oasis class could fit under the bridge on paper.  With stacks retracted they are 62.5m.
Oasis and Allure cleared the Great Belt Link when they were first built in this manner.  However in the real world they wouldn't send a ship under with mere inches of clearance, they need safety margins so in practice Oasis class would be unlikely to try before the bridge is gone.
Freedom and Voyager class do not have retractable stacks.  As built they can't clear the bridge.

The easy way to see when they appear is to search for cruises on Royal's website with the destination set to Panama Canal.   When there aren't any it doesn't appear as a destination.

I need my glasses for distance, but my Rx is slight enough (about 1.25) that I don't even bother. There is a small magnification underwater anyway. DH on the other hand has terrible vision with an astigmatism (4.5 in one eye and 3.0 in the other). He uses a prescription mask for the magnification, but skips the astigmatism bit for the mask. I remember when we bought my gear when I was first getting scuba certified that they had Rx masks for sale in the dive shop (on land, not on a ship). However, he bought his last mask online at Divers Direct. This is the one he got, and you can can select a different Rx for each eye. $110.

Yes, have your younger teen siblings not go to the teen activities, and instead hang out with you at public venues. Similar to how you might spend time with your parents.
Not only is this against the rules, they scan it and check the photo and information. It's not just a look at the ID, and they use your SeaPass card, not your driver's license.

Our youngest joined me last January on the second leg of my back to back.   He was 19 at the time.

He had a good time in spite of himself.  We rarely saw each other except for the shore excursions we did.  For the most part, we kept to our home sleep schedules...I’m early to bed and rise, he’s the opposite.

I don’t know everything he did, but here are some of the things I’m aware of:
He went to a lot of trivia in the schooner bar, listened to a lot of live music at the different venues. hung out with some people he met at the water slides, found some people to play games with, he went to the silent disco, and quite amazingly (he has anxiety) was a team captain at Quest
At 19 you can go in all the different venues, but you cannot drink alcohol.
One suggestion I have is to be willing to step outside your comfort zone

Nicci reacted to JeffB in With the new Vaccine information when it will be possible to cruise normally
Here are some mRNA vaccine facts but before we list them, some background on DNA and RNA.
DNA encodes all genetic information, and is the blueprint from which all biological life is created. And that’s only in the short-term. In the long-term, DNA is a storage device, a biological flash drive that allows the blueprint of life to be passed between generations2. RNA functions as the reader that decodes this flash drive. This reading process is multi-step and there are specialized RNAs for each of these steps.
    https://www.technologynetworks.com/genomics/lists/what-are-the-key-differences-between-dna-and-rna-296719
To put this into the context of the question can an mRNA vaccine change your DNA? The answer is no. That is because mRNA has as no roll in altering DNA. It is possible to alter DNA by splicing in different base pairs made up of two nucleosides. RNA or mRNA vaccines can't do that carrying only multiples of single nucleoside - square peg in a round hole. Won't happen. The primary roll of RNA, specifically messenger or mRNA is building proteins essential for biologic functions of the human body.
    mRNA and traditional vaccines:
mRNA vaccines represent a novel vaccine technology that does not rely on any type of traditional deactivated virus to provoke an immune response in humans. This approach to neutralizing a virus and limiting or eliminating viral epidemics/pandemics has never been treid before.
As noted above, the mRNA injected into humans as a vaccine co-opts the regular cellular function of RNA (coding for the production of proteins) and produces the S or spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 that then circulates in the body. The body recognizes this as foreign and its presence provokes an adaptive immune system antibody response and an innate immune system T-Cell response. The human body is now primed for the real thing and when it arrives it is almost immediately neutrlaized.
The AstraZenaca vaccine is a traditional one that contains a deactivated virus from monkeys (a vector) that has been infected with the common corona or cold virus. When injected into humans, the vector causes the cellular production of the S or spike protein that is common to SARS-CoV-2. The mechanism of action is the same as an mRNA vaccine. The body recognizes this as foreign and its presence provokes an adaptive immune system antibody response and an innate immune system T-Cell response. The human body is now primed for the real thing and when it arrives it is almost immediately neutralized.

I am going to try a positive spin on this (with some less than positive "bits of data"):
1).  The Vaccines (and there will be many of them) are proving to be safe and extremely effective.  No amount of distancing and masking will shut down COVID 19.  These temporary measures (probably for longer than we would like) are to protect:
Us from a runaway pandemic ... giving the scientists time to develop the vaccines. Our health care systems ... Italy's almost collapsed early on. And, with great importance, our health care workers ... each and everyone of us should be thanking them daily.  I can't imagine how I would react in their situation. 2).  Some jurisdictions have done an amazing job of minimizing transmission.  So much so that they are already starting up cruises.  Not the exact way we would want to cruise, but the "canary in the cave" is doing very well.  Below is some encouraging and disappointing "bits of data":
Singapore .............Total Deaths/100,000: 5 [They are sailing now] New Brunswick ... Total Deaths/100,000: 10 [if St. John were a home port we could be sailing around the Maritimes now] ? Ontario ..................Total Deaths/100,000: 303 [Not good enough ... should be closer to NB results] Canada ................. Total Deaths/100,000: 402 [Skewed higher by some terrible results in Quebec] USA ...................... Total Deaths/100,000: 1,021 [The main reason the cruising industry is shutdown ... 75% of worldwide cruises originate in the USA.  Once Vaccines are available, and allowed to do their job, we will be cruising again] My soulmate and I have cruises booked in NOV 2021, APR 2022 and MAY 2022.  Looking at Winter 2022 as well (we are open to influence) ?
There is light at the end of the tunnel (and it is not an oncoming train).
