It doesn't have to be refundable- but it will remain non-refundable even if pulled into a group. And you have to make full deposit, nothing reduced like next cruise will give you.
I see @twangster answered this too but I was already typing so...

If you end up with two rooms, you should be able to have the kids in their own room together as long as it is next door or across the hall, but it does require speaking with an agent to make those arrangements. However, the issue arises when you do 2 GTY rooms - then you'd probably have to put an adult officially with each (although, as you said, you can get extra room cards) because the GTY rooms could be very far apart.
Would you consider using a TA (a good one, recommended by those here on the boards)? I've never paid more by using one, and sometimes less or equal but with better perks, i.e. refundable or onboard credit. Then you end up having someone to advocate for you when you run into things like this. I wouldn't use a travel agent for a land vacation, but I've come around to using one to book my cruises. You end up being able to still manage all of your extras yourself, like drink packages or dining, etc. but you also have someone in your corner for any big changes that may occur. You could always check in with one to see if they also see your same pricing and then cancel the first via Royal as they said they would.

I see we've entered borderline cinematic universe territory now with The Effectors on Icon.
I wonder if they will rebrand Odyssey: Effectors I, a New Hope
Up next for Star: Effectors III Crash Back

Sharla got a reaction from WAAAYTOOO in A New Way to Track Cruise Prices!
A lot of sites have price tracking abilities. But what it doesn't take into account is what you originally paid.
Our travel agency has a tool that we use; I get an email when a price changes. But it only says when it changes downward, meaning it could have gone up at some point and is now going down but it's still not lower than what it was.
While these tools can be helpful, the only way to know for sure is to actually check the price.
Unless your site has a way to input the data on the original price then it's not going to be more helpful than other sites. Sorry.

Sharla got a reaction from WAAAYTOOO in How do you know which ports will have tendering?
I can't find your specific cruise without more to go on but I can see if it's docked or tendered on the travel agent site. Your agent should be able to send you that info.
    Here is an example:

Mon 22Jul2024    Athens (Piraeus), Greece    -    5:00 PM    Boarding
Tue 23Jul2024    Mykonos, Greece    7:00 AM    8:00 PM    Tendered
Wed 24Jul2024    Chania, Crete    7:00 AM    5:00 PM    Docked
Thu 25Jul2024    Argostoli, Greece    9:00 AM    7:00 PM    Docked
    Fri 26Jul2024    Cruising    -    -    Cruising
Sat 27Jul2024    Kotor, Montenegro    7:00 AM    5:00 PM    Tendered
Sun 28Jul2024    Split, Croatia    7:00 AM    5:00 PM    Docked
Mon 29Jul2024    Ravenna, Italy    5:00 AM    -    Departure

Hello everyone! I want to decorate my cabin door for kiddos High School Graduation & celebrate her acceptance to University. It's also her 18th birthday. Where do you recommend quality products? I have gone through some Etsy stores but I get a ho hum feeling, I want something to make everyone smile. Any suggestions would be so appreciated!

    This is true.
So if the reservation was made 9 months ago, that means the TA never went into the system to check pricing or deal with your reservation in any way. And you never put it into your Crown & Anchor account, nor did you check your credit card statement.
I have no idea what happened here and I will not put the blame on any one person, but I don't see Royal Caribbean doing a price match in this case. This could have been resolved 8 months ago with just a couple of checks.

A cruise wouldn't be canceled if some cabins are empty. It's better to sail with some people than no people!
But I'd bet it will fill up a lot more between now and then.

I'm sorry, but your TA completely dropped the ball on this one. After I apply a deposit, I check the booking to confirm the deposit was applied correctly. I check the payment history, I send myself a confirmation showing the deposit was applied and the remaining balance. I guarantee if the TA had a confirmation from Royal showing the deposit applied, Royal would honor the original price. Mistakes can happen, but this should have been discovered within days at the most - not months later. Also, the TA says they had a chat that was in the process of honoring the original price? We have the ability to download chat transcripts - why didn't they do that? People like this unfortunately give professional TAs a bad name.

Again, anyone can become a "Travel Agent". Do your due diligence on one, if using one. And stay involved and on top of dates, credit card charges, etc. Even a real agent can accidentally mess up. Be involved. A good agent will have no problem with that.

Agreed.  No TA worth their commission would submit a final payment less than 24 hours of the absolute, drop dead final payment date.

A TA can't advertise lower pricing than the cruiseline. What happens is a TA will often lock into pricing in a group block which they can offer you if they happen to have a group rate for that particular sailing.
The larger agencies deal in volume so they can offer a larger percentage of their commissions in incentives such as OBC or specialty dining.
The tradeoff is you may not get the level of customer service you want with a larger TA. Having a TA can be like having insurance if something goes wrong as they can advocate for you and deal with the cruiseline.
The good thing is you are in no way obligated to use one if you ask for a quote so feel free to shop around to find what's comfortable for you.
