Anything is possible at this point.
It is almost certain Royal will deploy all new ship builds where they they will maximize revenue.  I think Royal tends not to put very much weight on factors such as which market is being served by a new ship for emotional considerations and guest sentiment.  When they consider all things it will come down to how much money they project a ship will earn.  If deployment choice A means more certainty of assured revenue over deployment choice B then it will be deployment choice A.
Things like "a new ship hasn't been deployed in XYZ market in years" mean very little to Royal while guests in market XYZ let emotions influence where they think the ship should go.  Royal cares about money first as they should.  The board and investors who approved the ship want their investment maximized.
If it is Barcelona then it is Barcelona because they feel it was the best choice to assure maximum revenue.

Finding an alternate port on short notice is like playing a game of musical chairs but coming to the game late after many other cruise lines are already seated.
In a perfect world they would find a berth open somewhere close to Labadee so they wouldn't have to completely redo the entire itinerary.  Cruise ships are slow.  They can't cover great distances quickly.  An available port that is too distant doesn't help them at all.
Nassau has many berths and it's relatively close to Florida making it the best choice for some itineraries impacted by the situation in Haiti.
In other cases Jamaica is relatively close to Labadee so if a ship was already passing by this area and Falmouth has space then it's a best choice for this situation.
Grand Turk was developed with an investment from Carnival so they likely have priority there.  On days when it's available and if it fits due to proximity it is the best choice for some itineraries.
The DR may work best in some cases.
Once you start looking at more distant alternate ports they would have to completely change the itinerary but given how many ships from all cruise lines are competing for ports completely re-doing an itinerary is a tall order and very disruptive to guests.  In some cases an extra sea day is the only choice.

EXACTLY! It's a win win... people who want to get off and do beaches or shopping can do that... and it allows people who'd rather be on the ship to go ahead and stay on board and enjoy an emptier ship than they would in a sea day.

Nassau has not been removed from any itineraries. It's fine.  It's better than another sea day like some are getting.

There's also refunds and OBC being given... overall, I think they are offering a pretty good deal being it wasn't something they had any control over.

There is a light hydraulic oil sheen visible in the water that's believed to be from the DALI's bow thruster. Currently, there is no current evidence of pollution or leakage.
Over the next 24-48 hours the Coast Guard plans to make the crash site safe for salvage removal. That includes assessing and stabilizing the ship, which thus far has taken on no water.
The second phase involves removing damaged containers from the ship, before removing bridge debris.
From there, the Coast Guard will tow the DALI to Dundalk Marine Terminal.
More than 1,000 members of the US Army Corps of Engineers have been activated to help clear debris, which consist of 2,900 feet of steel and concrete lodged at the bottom of the river.

Prayers to all of those affected by this horrible tragedy.
I’m sure the investigation will be federally led and include the Coast Guard, NTSB and other federal investigative agencies.
The loss of commerce due to the stoppage of container vessels and also the interstate road system used by trucking will be substantial. Although rerouting vessels and vehicles to other ports and roads will quickly take precedence.
As for replacement cruise ports…Bayonne is a good possibility. There are many days each week where there are no ships in port. Right now it’s only the Anthem on Sundays. In May it will be the Liberty and Symphony. There’s also the possibility of the Manhattan Cruise Terminals which consist of piers 88, 89 and 90. Pier 88 is the one most used at this time…primarily by NCL. There is also the Brooklyn cruise port used primarily by MSC and Cunard.

When me and a guy from work were watching the video we were like yelling "hurry up, oh my God make it"  because there were a truck or two and we winced waiting for the bridge to fall but the trucks made it thankfully. Then the traffic seemed to stop and the bridge came down.

Man that must of been scary for the ship crew too. I mean scary and helpless. ☹️ If they lost power they had no way to navigate the ship and no way to avoid. They saw it coming in slow motion. 😭

Wonder what type of cargo was in the containers.  Looks like several of them tumbled into the waters!

Agree with other posters that any human life still unaccounted for should be top priority with determination of what caused this catastrophe next on the list!
Prayers to anyone currently needing them!  🙏

Clearly, the first concern is the tragedy for those who were on the bridge and their families. As others have noted, thankfully this was in the middle of the night and not during busy traffic times.
The impact on cruise ships/passengers is nothing compared to the disruption that will be caused to commerce. Baltimore is one of the busiest ports on the East Coast of the U.S. and the loss of the Key Bridge to truck traffic along the I-95 corridor will be very impactful.

Just saw this on the news. Holy Cow how tragic. That cargo ship was really moving too. A friend of mine is a harbor pilot here in Jacksonville and actually was onboard (before his licensure, he was still apprenticing) when a navy ship hit one of our bridges. Luckily minor damage to bridge but it was a massive investigation.

Those poor souls that perished and are still missing. 😢

Gonna be awhile on that cleanup. There is a Carnival ship based there as well…
    Hearts are with the families.
