  1. Thanks - I'll check these out! I'm certainly not against it (and would love your recommendations if you have any for further hotels or what not). My main concern is flight + hotel + car rental/ uber can get pricey and starts to feel like we're spending as much as the cruise fare (per person) just to be there one night. We don't have a choice but to fly (coming in from Chicago) so I try to save on the lodgings, ground transportation and food where I can without ending up in a cardboard box ? I've done some looking on expedia (our go to) but I figured other cruisers might have opinions, too. Covering all my bases and what not
  2. Hello! My Sept '21 was switched from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale and I've never been. Looking for hotel recommendations meeting all or most the following criteria: $120 / night after taxes MAX 2 beds In-room fridge and microwave Complimentary breakfast (hot is preferred, continental is acceptable) Max 5 minute walking distance to grocery/7-11 or walgreens/cvs stores Max 5 minute walking distance to restaurants/fast food Shuttle to/from Airport OR Port OR both I normally book Airbnb's but with the pandemic and all I'd rather stay somewhere contained and where they are held liable if it's not properly cleaned. Looking forward to your picks!
  3. Welcome back to the other side of the pond, good sir!
  4. I tried to think of this if i was in your shoes and it really is a rock and a hard place. I'm assuming your kids are too young for you to feel okay with them being that far on their own and the only other option would be to split the adults one with half the kids one on deck and the other with the rest. Certainly not at all ideal, but an option. I think, if I was in your place, I'd try my darndest not to cancel primarily because being on this ship for the cost of the Independence is a massive steal (spoken as one who was also switched) and with prices currently being much higher than normal you might have a hard time putting that refund toward another cruise around the same time for a similar cost. I know you guys probably wanted the connecting rooms to give everyone some independence and privacy but would it be possible to book JUST the suite? Might even out to the same cost? (not sure what kind of suite you're next too but if it's a GS 2 bedroom or higher it might give the same feeling)
  5. Thinking we would probably never do a cruise again, my mom and I booked a Grand Suite for our first one ... And now we cannot give up the perks and tub and space. You will struggle to go back. Lol.
  6. Watched the video AND found out my Sept 8-night got shifted to her all on the same day! It's a good Monday!
  7. I'm looking for a cruise that goes to several ports in South Korea - Incheon, Busan, ulsan, Jeju etc. The current cruises listed only make 1 stop in South Korea and a million stops in Japan or China. I want the reverse.
  8. Ooooh. I wish the chart also confirmed that these were approved. I've gotten burned so much I'm scared to get my hopes up without a million sources. Lol
  9. She's not moving anymore but that's okay to me! I'll just stare at her and the carnival vista and just enjoy them actually being here ??
  10. Hi all - a couple years back (maybe 2018) I was poking around on Celebrity because I knew they cruised to South Korean ports and saw a 12 or so night cruise that just bounced all around it with maybe a stop in Japan along the way. But now....I cannot find something like this at all, even for 2022. At best, I see Japan cruises that make 1 stop in Jeju or Busan. Did I imagine this dream South Korea cruise? (AKA does anyone else remember this?) And, follow up, does anyone know of another line that does have a cruise like it?
  11. Thanks to the Wayback Machine I was finally able to find this chart I've been wishing still existed. This was last seen on RCI's Wikipedia page early 2019 (before the amplification really got underway most likely) so it's definitely not going to have the newest features, but I think this PLUS the amplification charts folks shared above can help you out. I certainly found it super helpful for things like which ship has a freestyle machine or what Italian restaurant is on what ship. (Side note ...any body wanna bring this back? Lol.)
  12. Let's talk about flowrider wipeouts! (Aka the MAIN reason I'm too chicken to get on one >.<)
  13. The absence of something doesn't always make it allowed. It could just be that they haven't bothered to repeat it since it's still covered in the original CSO.
  14. really wish I could hear more about this... not knowing if it happened/is happening is really stressful...
  15. I'm looking at possible back-up cruises in case our 8-night in September gets cancelled or changed and am wondering if CocoCay is really worth visiting for someone like my mom and I? While I would enjoy the water slides, I can't justify the cost for just myself for just a couple hours and my mom isn't interested in them at all. On top of that, my mom might be up for lounging beside a pool or at the beach for a bit but not for hours on end, especially without a cabana (and again...those costs ?). So...is CocoCay worth a visit for people like us?
  16. Hi Jane! As a Chicagoan I totally feel you on winter making you think about a vacation! I'm already sick of the snow and the cold and just want to be in sun and sand and ship! I've got my fingers crossed my 8-night in September goes ahead in some fashion (I'm imagining it being shortened) just to shake off the shadows of 2020!
  17. I want to start collecting magnets or ornaments or something of the like for each new ship...but honestly they never quite scream to me when I'm on board. BUT...I do always buy photos and somehow end up always buying something from the "street" sales.
  18. Just googled and saw that, with these two gone, Grandeur is now the oldest ship (being built in 1996) and the smallest (being about 60 tons smaller than it's sister ship Rhapsody) so yeah....it's most likely that Grandeur is next in line for the chopping block. That said, I don't know that they would have a reason outside of money to get rid of her. Empress and Majesty lost a HUGE portion of their purpose with the loss of Cuba so between that and the pandemic, it was just the right time to let those classics go. I've never been on either ship and only saw one in person once on my last cruise, but I too am sad to see them go, especially with the fact that one of the original ships was scrapped this year, too.
  19. Room service! I know this probably sounds crazy given the embarkation day hecticness, but (and maybe it's cuz we get a suite) the food comes fairly quick and is always yummy. Plus we can unpack while waiting for the food to arrive (if luggage has made it to us) or just chill after the adventure of getting on the ship without bumping into the EVERYBODY. lol. In fact, in all 3 past cruises, we rarely left our room before muster because the boarding process just crowded all the halls.
  20. comparing daily (since thanksgiving is only one day), I think I eat more on a cruise. Mainly because I don't have to cook the food so I have plenty of time to eat and eat and eat on a cruise.
  21. (I haven't been on it but) Mariner is a Voyager class ship meaning it will be larger than the Vision class by quite a bit. It's closer to the freedom class in size and structure but older so not as flashy.
  22. After the article today, just confirmed my 8-night on Indy for September '21 no longer shows up. Hoping it's not going to be cancelled.... It's the only time I could realistically take time off of work....
  23. Don't touch my French Onion Soup! MDR = French Onion!
  24. Any tips on how to check possible price changes on a sold out room type? Apparently all suites are sold out for the 9/2021 cruise I have booked....
