  1. We are also on Anthem and have done SB before. We watched in 270, nice crowd of people, though I don't remember anything special like snacks or anything. Also, no commercials . But still fun.
  2. We too use Allianz. Haven't had to use it, but it's peace of mind having it. We are now cruising 3 times per year, and with the upcoming "Alaska Extravaganza" I am really glad we have it.
  3. are we twins? Cause those are the exact places I would be!
  4. WE are doing the 8 night Ovation in May, leaving Vancouver and returning to Seattle. Since we have to fly back to the east coast, we are opting to stay an extra night. I haven't been to Seattle since 1989, and the rest of the fam has never been. We have a 9am flight the next day, and are staying near the airport. We are ubering and using luggage locker for that day. It's a highly orchestrated operation, but worth it hopefully.
  5. We have our daughter come stay for the week and she brings our granddog as well. I also pay for our pet sitter service come during the day when she is working. We used to have an awesome sitter, but she retired, but the service has been very good. They email us pictures and updates every time they visit. They also offer grooming and poop patrol, so that's a plus!
  6. We have done Anthem multiple times and Odyssey once. Going on Ovation in May. We really enjoy this class, mainly because of the cold weather aspect, since we like to cruise in winter and prefer not to fly. We are the exception to the rule, we do not like Oasis class. Freedom class is as large as we like. Radiance class is probably my favorite. All that being said, any cruise is better than being home!
  7. Thanks for this list! We are always looking for new mocktails to try. I can also recommend the Mastercard (half strawberry/ half mango daiquiri), the Blueberry Nojito and the Shirley Ginger, which is on their non alcoholic menu. We also had a great one on Celebrity, watermelon syrup, lime juice, pineapple juice and sprite. They layered it, but on Royal they shake it, tastes good either way.
  8. 5000 points is $50 OBC. There is a chart on either BOA or RC website. When you want to redeem, you just go to BOA website and select how many points to redeem and for what. Very easy.
  9. We have a model from every ship we have been on. 15 so far, as some ships we have sailed multiple times. We did not buy the "amplified" Oasis model last week, we prefer our OG one. Also now at $70, not worth it as a duplicate. Adding Ovation this coming May.
  10. We just got off Oasis and did it. We made a reservation same day for the escape room. We paid 39.99 each to do it. It was a lot of fun, we had a nice group of folks.
  11. #1-Odyssey. Sailed her when she was brand spanking new. #2- Jewel. Love all the windows so you can see the ocean. #3- Voyager. She was our first 20 years ago and got us hooked. #4-Anthem. It's the closest to us, so we have been on her a fair amount. #5-Freedom. She is not the biggest we have been on, but it's as large as we like to go. I say this while sitting on the promenade on Oasis. This is our second time on her, and it's just too darned big for us. I took miss the old Sovereign class ships.
  12. We are now empty nesters. When DD was young, we cruised or went to Disney once per year. Some years we didn't go anywhere. We are currently on our 4th cruise this year. Our target is 3 per year until retirement, then it may change. We are random in cabin selection, though we really enjoyed the forward facing panoramic ocean view and may choose that more in the future. We live in NY, so Bayonne is an easy drive. That helps reduce costs. Next year we are doing the "Alaska Extravaganza", 8 night cruise one night pre and one night post cruise. It is totally blowing our cruise budget. But we are taking FIL, this will be his only time there. So this is a one off. We are Diamond plus, at 219 points currently. I don't see us getting to pinnacle anytime soon, so we are trying different lines. We did our first Celebrity this April, and are try MSC out of Brooklyn next October. Virgin Voyages is on our list as well as Norwegian and Princess. Many other lines do status matching, and if the price is right, I will give it a try. Royal's prices have gotten a bit high, so I am shopping around for better value. Will it be as good? Who knows, but I can at least try it.
  13. We did the Margaritaville day pass earlier this year in Nassau. Very nice. The British Colonial Hilton is supposed to have reopened, right next to Margaritaville. We did that numerous times when baby girl was young. Close to ship, clean facility.
  14. I am sorry this happened to you. But as a dental professional, I am having a hard time believing that you biting an olive pit would cause your implant to fail unless it had issues prior. I think even if you try to get further compensation, you may have a tough go of it. No implants are not infallible, the crown breaking, maybe. The implant itself failing, unlikely without an underlying issue.
  15. We booked our first MSC cruise for next October on Meraviglia out of NYC. Aurea balcony, I did consider yacht club as well, it was only a few hundred more, but for an inside. 3k for the cabin, free drinks and wifi ( easy plus drinks fine for us, we will upgrade to browse and stream onboard), gratuities and round trip transportation to/ from Brooklyn. Same week on Symphony identical itinerary, 3k only gets me a window. No drinks ( though we are D+ so I don't buy a package) but no internet or gratuities. And I still have to pay to park at Bayonne. We are at 219 points, pinnacle is nothin but a dream. So since there really isn't a huge increase in benefits until I reach 340, we are trying other cruise lines. We did a Celebrity this spring, are doing MSC next fall and are planning to try Virgin in 2025. We love Royal, but if I want to keep cruising 3 times a year, then I will look for what works best for us financially. I do however draw the line at Carnival.
  16. Not on any of mine- Oasis in 2 weeks, Anthem in Feb or Ovation in May.
  17. What others wear is their business. Not saying I won't comment to DH about it, but it has zero effect on my meals or enjoyment of my cruise. And what I wear shouldn't affect yours. Cover what needs covering and have a good time.
  18. WE go out of Bayonne at least twice a year, and while the terminal is not as flashy as Miami or PC, it is relatively easy to navigate, and the garage is very close to the terminal. In the summer when they have multiple ships you use the adjacent surface lots. They do have a shuttle to take you to the terminal.
  19. We booked the River Rock Casino hotel for next May. Our flight is wheels down in Vancouver at 9:00 pm local time, which for us will be 1am. So I wanted something close to the airport so we could get to sleep as soon as possible since we are not a good group when cranky. There is a train station in the hotel, so next morning will just be get on the train and head to the port.
  20. I guess I never understood why the pushback on getting a passport. Other countries it's the norm. We got ours when we started cruising, got the kiddo one at age 5 (her first cruise) Good thing as she went to Europe twice in high school. It's a small price to pay for the piece of mind that God forbid something happens we can get home. Also, you never know when you might just decide to jet off to Paris or London for dinner
  21. We are doing 4 cruises this year. 3 next year because one is "The Alaska Extravaganza" that is costing me a small fortune. How do we do it? Well this is the first time we have done more than 2 in a year. Being only 2.5 hours from Bayonne helps. We try to fly only once per year. We book a year in advance. We generally stay in balcony cabins, but have tried some different cabins recently. Have a central park window booked next month on Oasis. Have never stayed in anything higher than junior suite. If I can cruise more, I will stay in an inside. That being said, we just booked our first MSC cruise yesterday. Royal's pricing is out of hand at the moment, and I got far more for less with MSC. And since we are D+ but FAR away from pinnacle, we are trying some new things Our baby is grown and on her own, no mortgage, only 1 car payment. We don't eat out or do much of anything else, so we sock away money to cruise. DH gets 6 weeks vacation, I get 4 so this is what we do.
  22. We went with the annual policy through Allianz since we are now cruising multiple times per year. Haven't had to use it, hoping I never have to. I did research and compare other plans, but the Allianz plan seemed to suit us best.
  23. Just got another set of offers from Celebrity, let's see what happens after my Oasis cruise. Will I make it to Prime? Will they ever send me an offer. My magic 8 ball says "highly unlikely" might be time to do more Celebrity cruises.
  24. We went on our first and only thus far Celebrity cruise in April. Got offers for free 7 night cruises. It was only a 4 night cruise and I came out ahead. I have been on 20 Royal cruises and can't get past Choice. What gives? Celebrity very clear about points earned playing table games, where RC is exceptionally vague.
  25. We are flying out of Newark to Vancouver next May nonstop on Air Canada. We return to Seattle, and are flying nonstop back to Newark on Alaska airlines. I cannot do plane changes with 81 yo FIL and 24 yo DD- it is like herding cats traveling with them so one time on and one time off is a must. I am a bit concerned now about Air Canada reading these posts
