Vancity Cruiser reacted to Mad AS He11 in Abused, Humiliated, and embarrassed by Host of on board show like the Quest Show.
I was recently aboard the Utopia of the Seas, what a mistake.. never cruise again. I was drug on stage during the quest show by a host who would not take no for an answer. He whipped the crowd up to get me to come down. He the proceeded to humiliate myself and 2 other men. I left the stage as soon as I saw the direction the host was going. He the proceed to abuse me even after I left the stage. His whole show is humiliating people from the audience. This guy is also the cruise director, so if you don't like what is done to you on stage,,,,, Who do you turn to, to complain. Spoke with woman from Royal Caribbean this morning, basically... too bad so sad. Do not waste your time and money on a cruise. Fly to an island and put your toes in the sand.

I bring my accordion on all my cruises, people love it when I jam out in the Solarium on sea days for hours on end.

Vancity Cruiser got a reaction from CruiseRoyalDad in Oasis class ships will only do short cruises
I am going to sound like an old man here (I'm only in Gen X range 🫢) but I feel like the short cruise market trend is a reflection of where society is at. Everyone's attention span is shot to hell, all information is consumed in short form (videos or news) and in order to remain stimulated need to constantly be moving on to something else. While I am not a fan of short cruises (although I would partake if I lived close to a port offering them) I understand why Royal is doing this. The financial aspect of it is fascinating as 3 or 4 night cruises are about 75% the cost of a 7 nighter which means in a 7 day span RC is making 50% more in cruise fares. The onboard spend is probably just as much on a short cruise than a longer one so doubling revenues there.
For those of us born in the 1900's who enjoy a longer vacation we just have to find other options.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to OCSC Mike in Switching reservation back from TA to direct booking
Do whatever makes you comfortable. Just be aware that some of us don't use a TA to save any hassle... I use mine to get me refundable deposit group rates significantly lower than website NRD prices that also come with OBC.
I used to book myself and probably still would be if not for learning about group rates.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to twangster in Royal/Celebrity status match
I am Pinnacle on Royal. At the time they first matched status to Zenith on X I had 140 points with Celebrity.
When they introduced the status match they didn't give me 2,860 Captains Club points to take me to 3,000. They simply me made Zenith with 140 points.
I get some, but not all Zenith perks. I'm a fake Zenith, a Zeennacle.
I've sailed a few X cruises since then and now have 197 points.
I don't mind, it's pretty great really. Before I was capped at Elite. This is much better.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to CruisingNewb in Utopia’s ridiculously LOUD sound levels
I recently began researching other cruise lines, just to see what is out there besides the 3 cruise lines we have tried out.
We find Royal to be right in the middle in terms of most aspects of cruising, with dining being closer to the top.
As to noise levels, there are party cruises out there (names I won't mention) that are way louder than RCCL.
Then, there are cruiselines that go the complete opposite way and the ships seem really quiet.
IMO, loud is annoying, but silence is boring. I try to experience the "loudness" on a ship from the perspective that it is lively instead of annoying. It doesn't always help my ears, but it helps in my overall mood.
Im not trying to discount anyone's feelings or experiences.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to WAAAYTOOO in Have you ever requested to eat at a table for 6-8 when there are 2 of you?
I know I am in the minority here but I am really loathe to sit at a dinner table with strangers. I am TERRIBLE at small talk and at my senior vintage stage, I have no tolerance for nonsense. There always seems to be ONE person at the table that longs to dominate the conversation and that is pure torture for me. Frankly, I find this situation to be the MOST common at the Pinnacle events. That is why I will most often get to these events (when we go) early and wrangle a 2-top. I know the servers hate it when we do this but I don't care.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to WAAAYTOOO in A New Upgrade- Royal Genie without a suite?
I totally agree with this. Can you imagine trying to have in-room dining in an inside cabin ? Where would you even put the plates ? In-room parties ? Uh. No, The room was the major draw for us and the other "perks" were secondary...with the Genie being the least important, IMO.

Not available on any of my 3 Liberty cruises booked or Oasis next May either. I have below zero interest and at those prices negative 50 below zero interest.

Vancity Cruiser reacted to twangster in A New Upgrade- Royal Genie without a suite?
Unless they drop the price this will have minimal impact to anyone.
$600 per day for a couple?
$1,200 per day for a family of four?
(Free for guests under 6 in the same cabin.)
In many cases that's the cruise fare.
I don't see a lot of people buy it, unless they drop the price.
On a sailing I checked the DX, UDP and Voom added up to $137 per day including the 18% service charge.
$163 pppd for a Genie? On Freedom class? Nope.
"Hi I'm your Genie, let me escort you to your interior cabin on deck 2". 🙂
