@KeevesFor lack of a better term right now, that stinks. I would have hoped if you had informed them your choices would be a bit more varied.

I think there is a limit on what a ship can carry. Personally, I think there is a ton of food available almost all day and I don't know anyone who goes hungry on a cruise ship.
Did you contact RC about being Kosher? I feel like they would've had more options if they knew you needed them.

I am recovering from our brief but abruptly ended recent trip to Paris.  We were supposed to stay in Paris 11 days and then board a Viking River Cruise of the Seine.  To make a long story short, we had been in Paris 5 amazing days when we got a call from home with an emergency involving our 15 year old daughter.  While I won't get into details, we had to get home immediately.  I placed a call to Sharla at MEI and she did everything... Changed our tickets, notified Viking, re-sent our invoice and Allianz policy number and gave us piece of mind.  If you have ever doubted the necessity of buying travel insurance or the usefulness of an agent...DON'T!!!!!  While I am still waiting on the claim to be processed, I'm hopeful we will get closer to $10,000 back on our dream vacation that now we might be able to do again in the future.
Feeling a bit sad and glum, my fifteen year old and I decided to look at spring break cruises to surprise my husband with.  Sharla looked up 3 cruises for us with nary a complaint, put holds on them while we waffled, and booked us on Allure of the seas for next march.  Of the Oasis class, I was the least interested in this one, but the price was equal to Oasis and my daughter liked the ports better.  I'm excited to finally go to labadee and she is thrilled to go to San Juan, even if the port hours aren't great.  The cost was significantly more than liberty out of Galveston when you consider plane tickets to Miami but travel cancelled induced yolo is real and we are excited!
The only thing that will change this is if my college sophomore studies abroad in Germany next winter/spring.  If so we will try Europe again and I will have to wait to see royal until our vision of the seas med/Greek isles trip in July!!!
BUY THE INSURANCE!  USE THE AGENT!  ENJOY THE PEACE OF MIND!!  Jane

I booked Allure for March 2019 and it looks like the base price of the DELUXE package is up to 66 a day (showing 60 a day with 10% off).  With the Diamond perks (unless they change) it makes it even more difficult to justify.
Seems like we are chasing the "value" vs "Do I really want to drink this much or Do i feel i have to after spending 450.00 per person"

the 100,000$ med evac and 20,000$ medical is a good deal.   Our med evac from St. Lucia to Ft. Lauderdale was 67,000$ and the hospital was 14,900$ (and the hospital is pay as you go...so your credit card is billed as you go).  Another additional bit of advice is to carry plenty of cash...as ambulance was $50 cash from ship to hospital and another $50 from hosptial to airport....but actually it was $250 cash from hospital to airport because they could get an ambulance(all tied up with another accident) and borrowed a red cross ambulance for the trip.  If our insurance couldn't provide med evac (which they did with one phone call), angel flight would have provided the service for $15,000 up front and would bill insurance later.  Will never travel without it again.  RC was great (doctor, nurse, front desk) and provided someone(Christina) to attend to us while at the hospital.

We always fly Delta and they open up 330 days (+/-) out and we were able to book ours then with no issues.  If they have the aircraft chosen then you should be able to get your flight.  Maybe their website is acting likes RCCL website ?

So, I keep seeing these "chilled soups" discussed on dining room menus and seem like a popular cruise ship option overall.
... isn't a cold fruit based soup essentially a smoothie consumed in bowl and spoon format?

What you might try doing - call customer service and if the other members of your cabin would be interested in the Royal Refreshment package, they might allow them to purchase that and you could purchase the Deluxe package? You can't do it through the site but if other cabin members don't drink I've heard that support might be able to arrange it as long as the others in the cabin purchase the Refresh package.

    Good deal!
I did further research. The Grandview train is the one offered through Royal. It does not have Goldstar service (meals and 2 bar drinks included - Mimosa, anyone? It's 645 AM!). Also, the Goldstar service from Alaska Railroad (booking direct with www.alaskatrain.com) will get you at Seward by 11:30am or so. The Grandview train, offered by Royal, has you arriving later in the day 4/4:30pm.

I just received my confirmation email (about 4 hours from when I booked):
Thank you for your booking with AlaskaTrain.com.

We are in the final weeks of completing our 2018 summer season and are preparing to launch our 2019 reservation system  the first week of October.  Your reservation has been confirmed. We will process your payment, and email your confirmation and itinerary on October 2nd.
Because of the Goldstar service, the domed cars, and early arrival, we will forgo the ANC airport check-in. So, hopefully, we're good to go! @twangster I think between the two of us, we're coming up with some outstanding Alaska cruise itineraries!!

Baked Alaska reacted to twangster in Alaska excursions
I booked with Royal for my trip in a few weeks.  That train stops very close to the cruise terminal but Goldstar wasn't available on it when I booked.  I wanted to try it compared to direct.
Here is the train station inside when you book direct.  When you first get there you need to get your train tickets at the window toward the left.  Do this as soon as you get there because lines will get long.  Then it's just a matter of waiting until they open the doors to board the train.  It's assigned seating so no need to be the first out the door.

I usually do it deck by deck to be honest(the areas that are open to explore).....that way I have reference points and remember more easily what is on each floor and near/next to what...I just go from one end to the other on each floor...taking lots of pics  along the way...

Others we meet up with or travel with are often surprised that I know my way around so easily but I probably wouldn't if I didn't do my own exploring like I do.

That reminds me of an incident MANY years ago.  My very young (at the time) nephew somehow got a crab in his swimming trunks who latched onto a testicle.  Needless to say, the poor chap (now a grown man with a family) still gets asked to recount that harrowing story.  I still shamelessly giggle even though it was NOT funny to him at the time !

YIPPEE !!!  Have a GREAT time.
Envious.  I'm sitting in the airport in DC for a DELAYED flight that is going to get me to Chicago JUST late enough to miss my connection to lovey Fargo, ND.  I have a glorious 8 hours in Chicago to look forward to before the NEXT flight to Fargo.
Why am I not on a cruise again ??  Oh yeah.  work.  UGH

Baked Alaska reacted to twangster in MDR "jerk"!
With that thread title I was wondering what I did in the MDR...
In my experience cruise line 'jerk seasoning' is pretty mild.  Pick your cruise line.  Truth is 'Jerk' isn't something that comes from a bottle so don't expect the real thing.
I did an excursion in Jamaica on Carnival that included a "jerk" lunch.  It was so mild.  The restaurant told me people complained to the cruise line so they had to tame it down.
