It's cheaper for us to fly to San Juan then it is to fly to Fort Lauderdale or Miami. We live in Houston.
Plus we get to go to better destinations. Sailing out of Galveston means going to Mexico...been there, done that.
We recently flew into San Juan and sailed on Adventure, it was the easiest embarkation and disembarkation we have ever experienced.
We looking into more cruises out of San Juan....better bargain for us.   Plus we are all for helping this beautiful place get back on their feet.

San Juan is one of the best pre-cruise departure ports because the city offers so much culture and history (and food).

We love  San Juan,  especially Old San Juan.    Absolutely zero negatives.   The Southern  Caribbean itinerary`s are so much better.  The food is great.  I could go on and on .  We go on the advice of  the locals and go where they go wherever we travel to.  All of the after mentioned  comments are spot on.

Not to mention, the locals on all of the islands seem to be incredibly kind and proud of their island, and happy to see people there.

Just wanted to come on and say I bought the coffee card on sale for our Adventure of the Seas sailing. Best thing ever!
If you are a big coffee/tea drinker this is a good thing. I did read somewhere if you buy an espresso heavy drink they charge you 2 punches, but I didn't have that issue.  On Adventure it worked at the Starbucks on The Promanade. That may not be the case on the Oasis class ships or those that have a Starbucks and a Cafe Latitudes.
Also, if you don't use it up on your sailing, it will carry over to your next one.

The Daily News in Galveston is reporting that Royal Caribbean wants to bring an Oasis class cruise ship to Galveston in the fall of 2020.
So far, the Oasis class ships have been based in popular cruise ports in South Florida (Port Everglades and Port Canaveral).  That could change in two years if the Port of Galveston has their way.
However, in order for the port to be able to handle one of the cruise line’s 225,000+ gross ton cruise ships, a third terminal would have to be built that can support 6,000+ passengers. Port officials stated that a third terminal would cost over $100 million and there are questions about who will pay for it.
Currently, Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line have multiple ships that sail year-round out of the two terminals at the Port of Galveston. Carnival will be sending their largest cruise ship, Carnival Vista, to the port in September.  Disney Cruise Line also sails seasonally out of Galveston.
Building a third terminal would pose a few challengers for the Port of Galveston.  The first would be where to put it.  A second challenge would be re-accommodating current tenants, such as Del Monte Fresh Produce, to new terminals at the port.
When the Daily News reached out to Royal Caribbean about the matter, they refused to comment on it.
Port Director Rodger Rees told the Daily News that in order for the port to be ready for an Oasis class ship by the fall of 2020, the project will need to be planned and designed by November 2018.
There are currently four Oasis class ships in service with a fifth and unnamed vessel planned for 2021. Two of the cruise ships, Harmony of the Seas and Allure of the Seas are based in Port Everglades.  A third, Oasis of the Seas, currently sails out of Port Canaveral.  Symphony of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, is sailing a season in the Mediterranean before heading to her new homeport in PortMiami.

We were there this past April 5th. The beaches and water were great in spite of the devastation. At the port the vendor shops did not have any power, so they set up little vendor booths in the covered walkways in front of their shops. I was AMAZED at the number of cruisers that were haggling over the price of stuff they were trying to buy. I became so pissed off at this one lady who was trying to buy a $20 necklace for $10 and kept arguing with the vendor, who came down to $18. I butted in and told the vendor I'll take it for $20 and gave her $30. Hey, she could use the money and it didn't break my bank. Needless to say the cheap skate lady had some words for me, but I just smiled and joined my group.

Have you seen the car seats that have a handle and roll like a piece of luggage? I always said if we ever cruise or fly with my toddler grandson we were buying one of those.   This is just one I pulled up on a search.

I just came back from Allure of the Seas April 22-29 2018 and to my surprise I got an upgrade when I got to the pier. I originally booked an Oceanview Guarantee (Y) and I got my cabin of 3216 but I got upgraded to a JS 7226. I was in shock and thinking this was a mistake and they were going to take it away from me. When I got to the room, the sea pass cards there had a different last name (I'm thinking they either cancelled or they got upgraded as well) but I got it resolved quickly with Guest Services. We got to eat dinner at Coastal Kitchen. ?

We got the email asking if we would be interested in an upgrade on our Adventure sailing if one became available. I answered with a resounding YES!!!   Well, we sail in less than a week and I haven't heard anything. Maybe we will get lucky and they will have upgraded us at check in.    One can hope ?

I was in San Juan today.  Power was back on late last night.  There were instances of rolling blackouts during the day but none were longer than 5 mins.  It was business as usual.

This is not really related to cruising per se, but the MLB regular season series vs the Twins and Indians went on as scheduled at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan on Tuesday and Wednesday. The mayor of San Juan tweeted that the ballpark ran on emergency power during last night's game which didn't end until past midnight here on the East Coast. (And, yes, being the baseball and cruise nerd that I am, I stayed up to watch it LOL.)
So, it's nice to know that life can go on, at least for one day! @Suzanne and @tiny260, I have a port visit scheduled in San Juan for my Adventure cruise in December :)

We were also asked by our wait staff to give them 10's on our FotS cruise that we just completed, and that was over the course of the last couple of nights, not just on the final night. I also didn't say in my survey that anyone asked for a favorable rating, and I was fine giving them the 10's as they were both really attentive and did a bang-up job. But I agree that it didn't feel quite right (on either side).

Suzanne reacted to RaleighTrout in Any recourse from RCI changing staterooms on me?
Sailing to Western Caribbean in August 2018.  Booked in mid March.  Last week got a voicemail from a RCI "resolutions supervisor" about my stateroom.  I haven't called back yet but I can see in my account they have changed my stateroom from 6th deck (6046) to 2nd deck (2506), - from mid ship to front of ship.  6th deck is better on this ship (Majesty) and has a regular window, not a port hole (room 2506 has a port hole).  Before I call back, do I have any leverage in this matter?  How can this have been done without my approval?  Should I demand concessions of some sort?

Thanks for any feedback.  I've never sailed RCI so appreciate feedback from those that have.
