  2. I get that. I do not disagree. I am asking this question because I just don't see more than a finite number of destinations regarding the Long Beach (LA) port. I'm not 100% certain, but Cape Canaveral in Florida seems like it inly offers Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries. Isn't that kind of like what's going on in LA? I just think that it is all relative. The number of destinations (ports) available to accommodate cruise ships, cruising demographics, economics. It seems to me that the Caribbean and the Bahamas are money makers. So it would make sense to me to have a large number of your Oasis and Icon class ships sailing out of Florida and Galveston. I'm glad to see 2 Quantum class ships here in SoCal. I think an Oasis class to do those 7+ night Mexican Riviera cruises would be nice, but for now, I think the options of ships and destinations out of LA are relatively solid.
  3. We had a wonderful time on the oasis. The only big complaint I have is we are paying for the internet and I feel they need to add more bandwidth or something. I thought since they added Starlink it would work better. But quite a bit of the time it was unusable.
  4. We have had the pleasure of sailing on Adventure four times over the years and have always enjoyed it. It might be an older ship but it's been well maintained and the crew has always been outstanding. Adventure kept us safe and handled the biggest seas we have ever experienced during our Oct 2019 13 Night Snowbird Migration Cruise from Quebec Canada...The waves were extremely large and the Captain even closed off all outside access for a period of time. Would love to and will hopefully sail her again!
  5. We may be in the minority but we’re not THAT odd, lol. I do like getting off on CocoCay just for the food & a change of scenery for a 1/2 day but if we ever run into bad weather, I wouldn’t be devastated to stay onboard.
  6. This is so true. You know I never shared on my blog last week, but this reminded me of a realization I came to last week while sailing Freedom. With Royal doing so many of these boring 3/4 night itineraries, it actually gives me a chance to do something I always said I wanted to do...which is to take cruises to nowhere. The last 3 sailings (Allure NYE, UT March 2025, and FR 2025) I never left the ship! To me, that is a cruise to nowhere, which I love!
  7. Deep into page two & the tangents are flowing as usual. I encourage them, of course, and at least the specialty comments were actually cruise-related.
  8. When I read this, the first thing that popped into my head was, "....so they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverleeeee. Hills, that is...".
  9. Even if they did yank Mario's status (which they would never, ever do), it would take him no time to get back to being #1 again.
  10. Experiences are what you make them and some people will complain about anything. We sailed on Adventure last October and it was just fine. Yes, it is smaller with less bells and whistles than the newer ships but we still had a great time on our 8 night cruise. Not to mention, you can get some great deals sailing this ship. No regrets here.
  11. Today
  12. I was on Adventure over Christmas this past year. It's not the newest ship with the most bells and whistles, but it isn't fair to compare it against the newer and larger ships. As you've been on an Oasis class ship it will feel slightly familiar as Oasis did evolve from this class of ships (Voyager). I would have no issues sailing on her again.
  13. Yep, agree with all that. I used to listen to WIP a lot when I lived up there, then completely stopped a few years after moving down here. I started to get tired of the podcasts I listen to when insomnia kicks in so I actually started listening to WIP this past NFL season and kept with it, mostly Jon Johnson overnight (which I know is still on when you get up for work). I couldn't believe that some guys were still around from the late 90's, even if they're not main hosts anymore, like Jody Mac.
  14. Nice, I like the collection! And yeah, listening to sports talk over here, you'd think we were in last place, it's weird. I think it's the streakiness of them, 8 wins then 5 losses, 10 runs one day, 2 for the next three games... it's like we just have to hope they hit the right streak when the time comes.
  15. Historically when can we expect the release of the info for these cruises?
  16. The RC app doesn't offer many details on this excursion. It sounds like the ferry would leave from the cruise ship dock (we will be on Icon), which might be nice for our young family, versus needing to take a taxi to/from Red Hook for the public ferry. We will be in port from 8a - 6p and the excursion is listed as 5.5 hours, with over 4 hours on St. John, but the app doesn't say what time we would leave for St. John. We would want to head over as early as possible. Another question is whether we could skip the RC ferry back and take the public ferry if we were wanting to have more time on St John. Can anyone offer any thoughts on whether this excursion might make sense (versus the public ferry or another St John RC or private excursion option), and what times it departs and returns? Thanks in advance!
  17. It's a great ship. Smaller, but not small. Not amped but not barren.
  18. We have a cruise coming up next year on Adventure of the Seas and this is going to be our first smaller and older ship with Royal. While we haven't been on any of the Star class the ships we have been on have been rather large and newer or amped recently. On another cruise community that I won't name someone posted about Adventure of the Seas and the comments were filled with nothing but negativity towards the ship and I wanted to get the perspective of a little more open-minded community. So with that said, have you been on it recently, what did you enjoy, not enjoy and would you sail on it again.
  19. Formal night and lobster night are two totally different events. Shorter cruises usually don’t have lobster night at all. I know 3 and 4 nighters out of LA don’t have them, not positive about 5 night cruises but I wouldn’t hold your breath as lobster night is “usually” night 6 on the MDR rotation. The lobsters aren’t anything to get excited about anyways so you wouldn’t be missing anything if it wasn’t offered on your cruise. The tails are small, tough, warm water tails.
  20. Like Wayno, I enjoyed the different views of the ship from above and the side.
  21. I know that's a popular strategy and my long time viewership of the Nathan's July 4th Hot Dog contest along with some other food eating comps lets me know that's how the pros do it but I just feel a lot better when I get home after gaining 10+ lbs. if I lost 5 before the cruise. I'm actually a thin guy and it's not a vanity thing but more for comfort.
  22. I like it. I have a growing collection of novelty t-shirts related to Philly sports courtesy of my SIL and a few usually make it onboard. She always gets me stuff like that for Xmas but the themes have always changed. I wasn't a huge fan of every theme so I tried to convey how much I liked the Philly theme and she's been sticking to it. They range from corny to funny to more traditional. Some are just basic print on a solid t-shirt like "Ew, Dallas" or "Introverted but Willing to Discuss Philly Sports." The last one is perfect for me, of course. Others have more style and are kinda cool, like "ILL" in maroon Phillies script on powder blue or "Philly vs. All Youse!" She actually got me that last one twice, lol, but one is kelly green and the other is powder blue with a baseball for the "O" in "Youse." I think they're mostly from Amazon. They don't necessarily jump out as Philly shirts like a jersey or licensed t-shirt at first glance but people eventually notice. BTW, been following the Phillies more this year than I had been and I don't know what to think. 1st place in division, three all-star level pitchers, should be happy... and yet everything else about them is so frustrating.
  23. Well, Florida IS the spot a ton of Philadelphians decide to move to when they want to escape the MidAtlantic weather. That's part of our embarkation tradition... we usually wear something associated with the city on boarding day... Eagles if it's in the Winter, we'll probably have some Phillies stuff on next month when we board.
  24. A great opportunity to prepare your stomach for the onslaught of overeating. People who diet ahead of a cruise are doing it wrong. You need to expand your stomach, not shrink it in order to avoid the discomfort of overeating.
  25. Asian buffet night at WJ is the night I skip MDR completely (unless the MDR is serving lamb).
  26. If what I have been able to see is correct (YMMV), our Brilliance September MDR menu has been available since at least March (the first time I looked). It hasn't changed during the interim so I'm hopeful that it's accurate because I'll be able to have lamb 5 different nights (4 times as the Indian dish).
  27. We all like what we like. Many cruisers wouldn’t want to keep sailing to the same ports on the same ship over & over but it works for me.
