SeaPass Card Question / Mobile Pass (Customs)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

It has been about two years since I have sailed with RCCL.  We are sailing on the Harmony in 3 weeks.

I keep reading our SeaPass cards will be outside our door.

Do we not get them when we check in at the port?
What if somebody takes them before I get to my room?
Has this ever happened to anyone?

Do Grand Suites and Above get WOW bands on Harmony or do I need to buy them?

Lastly, I read the port at Fort Lauderdale participates in Mobile Pass.  For those who don't know this, it appears to be an expedited line for US Customs.

Has anyone ever used this?
Is it necessary?

Any info would be great.

Yes.  One seapass card is outside your door.  The rest are in the room.

I guess they go with the honour system.  I have heard of many people who worry that someone will take them but I have never read or heard of any situations where it has been taken.  It's always a good idea to monitor your account while on board.  If you notice any suspicious charges, just report it.

JS and above get WOW bands.  They will be in the stateroom along with the seapass cards.  No need to purchase.

I have never used Mobile passport but have heard of many good reports from those that have.  If you are in a GS or above, you get escorted off by the concierge and you bypass most lines so I don't know how necessary this would be if you are in a GS or above.

Enjoy Harmony, she's a great ship!

No, they will be waiting outside your door.

They wont.  But in the unlikely event it happens, you can go to guest services and they can deactivate those cards and give you fresh ones.

It's complimentary and will be waiting in your room.

I have. The best part is they have a special line which is usually much shorter.

That being said, customs has now moved away from those blue forms you had to previously fill out.  So not sure this is still offered since no one has a form.

But if it is offered, def get it for the shorter line.

We used it last September and it was great.  We bypassed the huge line and got in a tiny one.  We actually didn't even download it until we went to pick up our luggage and saw the line.  Downloaded it quickly, entered all our info, and then joined the shorter line.  We still had to show our original passports, and they didn't even look at the mobile app.  But man what a line we skipped!!

If someone steals your sea pass card or finds it if you loose it, it will be of no use to them. Your photograph is embedded on the card. You can't see it, but every time your card is scanned/swiped for a purchase your picture shoes up on the "cash register" (for lack of proper term) monitor and the RC sales rep can see your photo and verify that it is you, in fact, purchasing those two Rolex watches or a drink. :27_sunglasses:

On this last cruise (March 25th) our photos at the counter when we checked in with our set sail paperwork, even though I had uploaded our photos with the online registration. On previous cruises, our photos were taken before we left the terminal en-route to the ship. There were lines for the photos and that is when they gave you your sea pass card. :27_sunglasses:

Thanks.  I've scanned our passports so I can clip the pics and send them if they want them.

They will still probably take your photos when you check in. Takes less than a minute. Unless someone in your group wants to spend time doing the hair, makeup, etc. like Glamour Shots. :3_grin:

I've had mixed success with Mobile passport.  Sometimes it won't accept my submission.

Coming off Serenade recently I was near the front of the self checkout group.  Customs wasn't fully setup yet and only had two agents working.  One was tied up with crew getting cleared.  The Mobile passport line was there and people filed into it but it wasn't working so they had to feed over to our line to see an agent.  That ended up slowing them down and their line stalled for a few minutes.  I got through faster without it.

Having said that if I disembarked during the peak well into the process I'm sure the Mobile Passport would have been faster.

I have sailed on Allure without getting the cabin key on embarkation.  I didn't have any problem at all as the key that is outside is in a sealed envelope/package.  The other key(s) are inside the cabin.  If anyone wanted to purchase something on the ship before the cabins are available, such as soda package or a drink, the Set Sail Pass has the info the cruise line needs to assess the charges to the correct account.

Last cruise on Allure, I had the alcohol package and ordered a Bloody Mary while waiting for the cabin to be available.  The bartender had to write down the info and said it would be input into the computer later that day and it was done correctly and I wasn't billed for my drink.

As far as the Mobile Passport is concerned, I've been able to use it twice on Allure, but the last cruise it wasn't up and running for some reason.  I was in the line for using it and was sent to an agent and just showed him my passport and I was on my way.  All three times I did self debarkation and it was quite early in the morning.  I like having it as it seems the line, if any, moves very quickly.
