Anders11
I’m considering getting the Voom WiFi package but wasn’t sure what was safe or not safe to use it for. Can I check my emails safely?
Matt
If your email uses HTTPS and has a valid certificate, it should be encrypted. Let's put it this way, I check my email on a cruise.
smokeybandit
Unless your email contains national secrets, it's definitely secure enough to check email.

Can I check my emails safely? It's as safe as connecting to any other internet service that isn't in your home. If you connect to Starbucks' free WiFi and check your email from there, then Voom is no different. If you would never do something like that, then no Voom isn't safe enough for you. John-NC
I expect it would be as safe as any public WiFi. If you are really worried, just use a VPN service. I typically do that on any public connections I use.

steverk
I check my emails. I don't log in to my bank or enter my credit card numbers. If you're really concerned, they look at a VPN to encrypt your communications. teddy
Traveling Mike
I am like the others. I work on the ship every cruise. If you are worried use a VPN service. If you do not know what a VPN is here is a good video that explains what it is and how to download it and use it. https://youtu.be/CpWwqg2n2qk
CrimsonCruiser
I figured the VPN thing might pop up in the replies and I wanted to share my recent experience. I have a VPN through Norton that is set to turn on whenever I connect to a public wifi. It connected as soon as I logged into the wifi onboard. For maybe the first 2 or 3 days, I had no real issues with my connection but by day 4 I couldn't use the app (i literally didn't think I was on the ship) and everything online was at a crawl. I finally got exasperated and turned the VPN off and things went back to normal. It could have just been my provider causing the connection issues, but wanted to share in case you were thinking of going that route to check your email. twangster
It is no more and no less secure than any other private business in the world. Airports, hotels, coffee shops, bars, restaurants, internet cafes, etc. BTW - you home wifi probably isn't as secure as you think either.
