What kind of shape is Enchantment of the Seas in?

Recommended Posts

I sailed enchantment in January and had mixed feelings. I found there to be a strong smell of sewage in my bathroom for the entire cruise and in the atrium most of the time. There were pockets of the ship that were worn out and the cabin felt quite small and dated. Pools were small but nice. Outdoor TV was in awful shape. But overall it's still a very nice ship, and the lounges are all beautiful. Staff is great. Live music wonderful. Very elegant atruim. (Just very smelly on embarkation day.) perfectly nice Casino. Lovely theater. Nice dining room. Chaotic and not-so-good Windjammer.

I blogged about the cruise and the ship and put up lots of photos of it if you would care to look through it and see if it's helpful.

Pretty much complete neglect. Think of it as Royal Caribbean’s’ forgotten ugly cousin, Super 8 of the Seas. Enchantment has none of the bells and whistles Royal touts in its marketing, it’s Wow! was exhausted long before Royal even started its Wow! campaign. It is very much a 1995 time warp.

Port intensive Mediterranean sailings are the best place for EoS. On those types of itineraries the ship and it’s amenities are not the focus and have little importance vacation wise. If Royal wants to keep her in the fleet, I think it would be best if it were in the Med 12 months out of the year. And if that is not sustainable or achieving the margins Miami wants, then full steam into a beachhead in Turkey it goes.

As stated, the Med is all about the ports, not the ship. We were on Vision last fall, and it was fine. Look at your itinerary and plan visits so you aren't too fatigued. Arrive Rome early to enjoy it as that is normally the longest day on Barcelona departures. You'll have a great time!

Had my first cruise ever on Enchantment in December 2021. It is definitely an older ship, but the common areas are in a good state. The state rooms are looking worn (I was in a GS), but they were still clean. I had no real complaints. I actually prefer the Schooner bar on the Vision Class ships to all the others I've been on so far (still haven't been on Radiance Class).

I sailed on Enchantment twice in 2022, and was very satisfied. Is it older? Yes. Does it have bells and whistles? No. I've heard others complain of smells, but I have a very sensitive nose, and I didn't smell any of the sewage odor that others have discussed. My staterooms were on decks 2 and 3, at opposite ends of the ship. It was clean. The food and drinks were good. The staff was wonderful.

My family was eyeing a December cruise on Grandeur because it goes to some great islands, but I'm having a hard time justifying it. I'm not terribly worried about the condition of the ship, but while my wife and I would love the islands, our kids do love the boat and there really appears to be very, very little on the boat to do, particularly for kids (and we aren't the type to just plop our kids in AO every night.) It's really the old-school model of casino/bingo/shopping/shows with a tiny little pool that feels like you're swimming in a sting ray tank at zoo. After going on Symphony and Wonder, I fear they wouldn't enjoy it.

I did Grandeur in Jan after coming off Oasis. You children might be hard press to find things they enjoy. There are almost no late night eats beside room service and the other dining venues are small. The shows are really dated, like really old in comparison to the ice and water shows you get on oasis class. Also, the rooms are much smaller than on the larger ship.

Thank you for all for your comments.  Our cruise is port intensive but want to enjoy our time on the ship as well.  I know I won’t be “wowed” but want clean spaces that don’t look worn out, friendly staff, good food, and delightful cocktails.

Well, symphony of the seas will be in the Mediterranean this season but it will be quite a bit more expensive than enchantment. It's one of their very best ships and you couldn't ask for more, but it will most definitely be a different price.

I think you can get great cocktails on any of the Royal ships and staff has been great on all the ships I've been on 99% of the time.

We are on Enchantment of the Seas on May 15 out of Civitavecchia.  I know it's an older ship but wondering the general condition of the ship.

Hi,

I am a Royal Caribbean Casino Chip collector.  By any chance can you help get me two $1 and $5 chip for my collection.

I collect $1 and $5 chips with the name of the cruise on the chip.  Only if the cruise name is on it because some cruises use generic chips which I already collected.

I will paypal you the amount and postage.

Regard,

You have to remember, Enchantment of the Seas was built back in 1995 - She's 27 years old, of course she's not going to be in top shape or as new and pristine as her sisters like Harmony, Symphony and Wonder. But it doesn't mean that Royal Caribbean is purposefully neglecting her.
