foulmouthedleon Posted September 4, 2022 Report Posted September 4, 2022 Hello again all, been a long-time lurker and just now decided to register for an account. Had a question that I have to imagine is easy enough to answer, but you never know… Long story short, wife and family and I were on Symphony…Seas back in April (Easter Cruise). Whatever we did in the casino must have impressed the “powers that be” as they started sending us free cruise offers. We took them up on one a few weeks ago and went from Baltimore (we live in Maryland) to Bermuda on Enchantment...Seas. We opted to upgrade our room via the Royal Up program and ended up with a “spacious” Ocean View room. Not bad, though the bathroom/shower was tiny, there wasn’t enough power outlets for our devices and, most importantly, we were just below the pool deck. The latter meant that the kids running along the pool deck, the crew moving chairs, etc. all resulted in a lot of noise. We’ve recently been offered a Jr. Suite on Oasis…Seas in November out of Miami and decided to take them up on it. My question is, sorry for taking a while to get to it, is…are we able to choose or move our room that they assign us? We really don’t want to be underneath a dance club, dining hall, pool, gym and so forth. Do we have any way to request a certain room or at least an area of the ship we’d like to be on? If so, how would we go about doing that? If not, I guess it’s not a deal-breaker. Furthermore, while I've got your collective ears, what might the best spots on that ship be with a Jr. Suite in mind? We realize that going on a ship with 5K people might not be the best place for some "peace and quiet", but I have to believe that there are some rooms out there that are superior to others when it comes to noise. Thank you for any assistance anyone can give. Quote
asquared17 Posted September 4, 2022 Report Posted September 4, 2022 welcome to the non-lurking side of the message boards! i am not sure how it works when you are offered/comped a room. for the traditional cruiser, you almost always have the option to "pick your room" or let "royal pick your room" -- the latter of which tends to result in a cheaper fare overall, as it allows them to slot you into whatever spot/category has yet to be sold or chosen by other cruisers. to answer to second part of your question as far as where you should pick on an oasis class with a junior suite -- this is just based off our experience, so YMMV -- but we tend to prefer decks 11 + 12 where the ship "bumps out." we prefer higher decks in general, but not so high that you're right below the pool/sports decks, like on deck 14. deck 11 deck 12 the lower you get -- deck 6 has the promenade/boardwalk, deck 7 could have spillover promenade action, deck 8 is central park with its two specialty restaurants and two bars -- the more foot traffic you share with the masses. whereas on a cabin-only deck, you're typically just dealing with people heading back to their room for the most part. again, this is just based on personal preference, but this is what we've noticed when booking. honestly, the best is a junior aft suite where you can look out the back of the ship like on the quantum class ships -- but those cabins are gold and tend to sell out VERY quickly (understandably). hope this helps!! Ampurp85 Posted September 5, 2022 Report Posted September 5, 2022 If this is a casino offer, when you speak to the rep you can ask about locations. I have been able to choose my locations on comped cruises. I usually will figure out where I want to be and narrow down the choices. You can tell the rep and they will yay or nay your selections. asquared17 and DoomSlayer 2 Quote
KevinK Posted September 5, 2022 Report Posted September 5, 2022 Before I call up to book my comp room from casino. I went to royalcaribbean.com to check on the date & ship I am interest in. If is free Balcony usually is 4D Aft or forward. If you want upgrade to mid ship, usually have to pay the different. check for the room that is free, make sure don't click on it, I believe if you do, it will lock the room for 15 mins or so. write down the room that you want then call up the casino booking and tell them the room you want. That's what I usually do, no problem at all. Good luck. Quote
Pattycruise Posted September 6, 2022 Report Posted September 6, 2022 google the deck plans for Oasis and familiarize where everyting is in regaards to the pools or any type of noisy thing. You can look at the week of your sailing to see availabity. WHen you call Casino Royale I recommend you have a computer available for your sailing and look at where they want to assign you and/or you suggest a cabin you want. I just got done booking a cabin for January and they wer very helpful. Iwas able to see the availalbe cabin category and they let me pick the cabin I wanted. I like the conenience of Deck 8 on Oasis. You can use Central Park as a pass through to the front/back of the ship. WAAAYTOOO 1 Quote
foulmouthedleon Posted November 7, 2022 Author Report Posted November 7, 2022 They ended up assigning us 7626 - Jr. Suite. Perfect location, although it's a bit odd that the 7th floor of that ship (and maybe others) has a "split deck." From one of the elevators you can't get to the other side, and I'd invariably pick the wrong side and would either have to go up a floor and cross over (or down). But a great room, great view and I had no complaints. Next one is on Mariner of the Seas for my 50th birthday. Family sprung for an Owner's Suite for me, yay! FireFishII 1 Quote

Curious, I've been trying to decide either between the boardwalk or central park balcony on Symphony and was looking at deck ten as it's not too low for sound carry over and not too high for overhead disturbances. Any thoughts on which areas are the noisiest or which one has a better view experience in terms of ambience? Thanks! Quote

Any thoughts on which areas are the noisiest or which one has a better view experience in terms of ambience? Thanks! in my opinion, i would say the boardwalk is probably the noisier/more trafficked of the two. there's the aqua theater shows, the carousel, the zip line, sports deck, etc. central park is pretty calm; while it has the pool deck noise from deck 15, that tends to quiet down near dinner. its usually people milling around on foot during the day and some live music at night. i'd happily stay in a central park balcony -- have stayed in them before, and will be staying in one again on harmony next year -- but boardwalk is a little too populated for us. we are pretty chill travelers and prefer more of a peaceful vibe. but that's just our my cents!! i know many others have stayed in boardwalk rooms and loved them! i should also clarify: the noise there is not so egregious that you're wishing you were never born it's just a different kind of ambient noise + activity to be aware of if you are people who like to go out and sit on your balcony. FireFishII Posted December 15, 2022 Report Posted December 15, 2022 23 minutes ago, Ptrg said: Could you explain what are those colors mean for each room? They are several... Thanks The colors indicate the class of a room. For example, the light blue and deep purple colors indicate Ocean View Balcony on Allure of the Sea. When you go to the Royal Caribbean website, search for a ship, and look at their floor plan, you will see the color key to the right of the floor plan. (https://www.royalcaribbean.com/cruise-ships/allure-of-the-seas/deck-plans/2140/10). I copied the color key from that webpage: Ocean View Balcony Quote
DoomSlayer Posted December 15, 2022 Report Posted December 15, 2022 I usually book my comp rooms through my TA. I tell him my room preferences and he does all the work of talking to Royal and making sure we get the room we want. I just forward the emails with the promotion/casino codes to him and he does his magic. Quote
