Talk to Me About Majesty of the Seas

Recommended Posts

We just booked last week for mid July. This will be our first RCL cruise having cruised on Celebrity (Century), Carnival (Imagination & Sensation), and Disney (Dream) over the last 16 years. We were looking for a short cruise to pair with some time in Central Florida and this 4 day fit the bill. I booked it not really paying attention to the ship and now I realize it is the oldest in the fleet.

I'm also having a difficult time finding any good information on it. Everything is about RCL's larger ships and very little is out there about Majesty.

We aren't looking to change our reservation...but I would like more information to manage our expectations.

Thank you!!

Christine

The Majesty is scheduled for dry dock and some upgrades soon so hopefully all will be good.  We are on your same sailing too!  We sailed the MOS years ago and loved her so I am hoping for the same result this time. We will in a Jr Suite for the first time so we are looking forward to that.

We are in two adjoining balcony cabins. This is the first cruise were we'll have the kids (10 and 15) in a different cabin. :-)

I'm not overly concerned. It is four days, and I'm sure we will have a great time. I'm just a planner and can't find a lot of information. ;-)

She is the oldest ship in the Royal Fleet. Built in 1992, Majesty is the last of the Sovereign class vessels in the Royal Caribbean fleet. The first modern megaships,  the largest cruise ships built at the time of launch. With features not seen on ships before this:  multi-story atriums, glass elevators, and a whole deck of Balcony cabins. She looks much close to a classic ocean liner than the new ships of today.

The plan was to take her out of the fleet but many cruisers love this ship and after the retirement was announced Royal back stepped and said they would refurbish and use for short cruises.  It is kind of interesting that they are adding the most advance internet system every offered on a cruise ship as part of the makeover. This ship first sailed before we even had internet.  Cruises who like a move classic ship will really like Majesty, and with only a few days in the trip you should be able to find things to do.

Below is information from one of the press releases for the ship:

"Voom, the fastest internet at sea, will be available free and unlimited exclusively for guests on Majesty of the Seas to stay connected, brag about their vacation to friends and family, stream their favorite movies and music, and enjoy popular online video gaming. New features to be introduced on Majesty of the Seas include Splashaway Bay aninteractive aqua park for kids which will feature a vibrant waterscape for kids and toddlers with sea creature water cannons, winding slides, a gigantic drench bucket and a multi-platform jungle-gym to keep everyone entertained for hours. In addition, the pool deck will be revamped and include a new expanded bar area, family-friendly Jacuzzis and a poolside movie screen. An enhanced casino will offer gamers a variety of the latest popular slot machines and table games and suite guests will enjoy exclusive amenities and services as part of a newly enhanced suite program."

From the descriptions so far, I think we will be just fine. Thank you so much for the links and input, it has really helped.

I should note that out of our past cruises...we chose to be on the Century (we were married while on this cruise with a group of 20 family & friends) and the Dream. The Carnival cruises were to see my sister who worked for them for 5 years and wouldn't have been something we would have chosen for ourselves (but any cruise is better than staying home).

That all said the more classic feel of the ship sounds more in line w/ the Century (which we really loved) and while the specialty restaurants would have been nice, I'm not sure we would have opted for any of them since our kids are picky eaters and it is a short cruise (on a longer one we might opt to do one night w/ just the two of us...but not on a shorter trip).

The free internet sounds intriguing! ;-)

  • 3 weeks later...

We have 3 JS booked. This is the first time for JS so we are excited as they have balconies also.

The JS on MJ are a bit smaller then other ships (no Walk-in closet) but you will enjoy them, Also you will be able to check-in in the suite line. I have some photos of 1586 if Ii find them I post them or post a link to them.

My son-n-law called and because we booked earlier, we still get our VOOM free. How long ago did you book your cruise?

Yeah it looks like I will get it free as well. Just saw this:

Royal Caribbean will honor the promise of complimentary internet to all guests that booked a cruise on Majesty of the Seas cruises departing May 15 to July 1, 2016. In addition, passengers who booked a Majesty of the Seas cruise on or before March 15 for a sailing departing anytime on or after May 15, 2016, will also receive free Internet. All others (anyone booking a cruise on or after March 16 for a sailing departing on or after July 2, 2016) will have to pay for their onboard Internet use.

I believe Royal knew exactly what they were doing with Zoom and the other changes on this ship. Do a PR release that claims big changes, get guests, travel agents, and other in the industry interested in the ship and then look at the numbers. Could have the plan all along been to offer free Zoom, for the extra PR they would get and then, after played out remove the offer? Would we be talking about internet on this ship if they had not offered free and then taken away?

Thank you. I definitely read it as book before AND sail before. Once you pointed it out I realized I was wrong.

FWIW, I don't need internet on a 4 night cruise. If it wasn't being offered for free, we would definitely not be paying for it.

Although it will be a nice to have so I can text our 15yo.

...off to research how to use wifi & texting without phone signal on Android phones. :-)
