Has anyone ever been to the Canary Islands or Norway on a cruise in this forum? Both cruises look interesting.. one is on Anthem the other is CCL... just wondering though, is one better than the other?

Both are great itineraries. Simply put, the Canary Islands are very much like Hawaii whereas Norway is much like Alaska. I don't think you can go wrong with either. It really depends on what your interests are. If you're a beach person, you'll love the Canary Islands plus you'll go to islands that are part of Portugal and Spain.

  2. I think the primary benefit of them forcing passengers to use one of their excursions in contact tracing. Because they can control who you've been in contact with both on the ship and on the tours, if anyone test positive for COVID or experiences symptoms, they can determine where to focus intervention first. MSC also claims that their providers are tested and screened regularly and that all vehicles are sanitized and have been set up to allow proper social distancing.

When my wife heard of this, she said "Hell, no!" She says it's too much like a prison sentence.

  3. I have to agree with the others. I fly to Europe twice a year for cruises and have found that it is best to wait a bit. Prices seem high at the beginning of the booking window. I've had very good luck the week of Thanksgiving for international airfare. I wouldn't wait more than about 90 days out. It also might be worthwhile to see what RCL is quoting for airfare.

Yeah, I know, That's the group cruise you will be on. Was thinking about doing that one, but, it's only in Bermuda one day and the rest the Caribbean. We've never been to Bermuda so this cruise we are on gives us two full days in Bermuda.. Plus, that's an awful lot of open water Atlantic Ocean....could bee kind of rough. And my wife is having a hard time coping with two sea days on the open Atlantic. :27_sunglasses:

My wife and your wife should meet. She's in the same boat (pun partially intended). She's not a fan of sea days and while we have the group cruise booked, we also have another booked that only has one sea day. My guess is that the other cruise will win out.

  12. Normally, simply turning off roaming is the solution. However, if you have an international plan like I do, you need to have risking enabled in order to use the International plan. The problem is that you can rack up roaming fees when the phone connects to the ship's own cellular tower, so I turn off cellular data when I board the ship and turn it back on when in port.

As others have suggested, call your carrier. Mine just instituted an option where you can punch in a code to your phone to disable data roaming on any not included networks, so now I don't have to worry. And if there's an emergency, I can disable it.
