  1. Giving Royal your bags has nothing to do with getting it to the airport. If you put your bags in the hall, all Royal does is take them off the ship and organize them in a giant warehouse so you can find them. For example, if you are in Disembarking Group 6, when they call that number to disembark, you get in line, get off the ship, and then find the signs for Group 6's baggage. You cannot take multiple trips to get your luggage off the ship so if you have a lot of bags, you will need to follow this procedure. If you can carry/roll everything in one trip, you can basically get off whenever your want. The only delay is how many people got in line before you on the ship, then the line at customs on shore.
  2. You can just click the follow button rather than replying. It's near the top of the page in the same block as the thread title and above the "Start new topic" and "Reply to this topic" buttons.
  3. Try not to use the word double. The formula is actually very simple: Points per night = 1 + (1 if traveling in a Junior Suite or higher) + (1 if traveling alone) = 1, 2, or 3 Points for Cruise = Number of nights * points per night
  4. Generally, it's against the rules (both ship and local laws) to bring food ashore unless it is pre-packaged (which means factory sealed, not something you put in a zip-loc).
  5. The 14th as in 10 days from now, Feb 14, 2022? I'd be surprised if they were still accepting Royal Up bids this close to sailing. As mentioned above, you won't get the extra points for sailing in a suite if you use Royal Up and there aren't really any suite perks for a Junior Suite. So the only thing you are getting is a bigger room and bathroom which you may not need when sailing solo.
  6. I see your location says Dublin. Part of the confusion is that most answers here come from the US but the rest of the world gets shown things a bit differently. Someone in the US, might see a daily price of $60 but when we go to check out, we are actually charged $60 * 1.18 = $70.80 per day. International prices (generally) already include the gratuity so for that same cruise, you would only ever see ~$70.80 per day but in your currency. That's the theory anyway because prices seem to fluctuate somewhat randomly. But the good news is that if you have a package, you've already paid the gratuity.
  7. For the most part, it's better to think of a junior suite as a larger balcony room with a better bathroom (shower/tub instead of tiny shower) and walk-in closet (depending on ship class). You also get the extra point per night. (Extra not double, because you can also get an extra point for being solo.) Real suite perks start with Grand Suite.
  8. Do the cruise docs describe the tags as showing the cabin location? It's possible the graphic actually shows the location your luggage should be taken on a lower crew-only deck during the boarding process.
  9. That will depend on which ship you are sailing and when. There's no way to know for sure until after you book unless you can find someone already booked on the same trip who can check. Once you book, you can look in your Cruise Planner to find the prices.
  10. Specialty coffee basically means the drink includes shots of espresso - so yes for lattes, cappuccino, machiattos, frappes, etc. (pardon my spellings). Could probably also define it as whether it's normally made by a barista. Drip coffee or keurig/pod style stuff is free (where available) and generally self serve (depending on current covid protocols).
  11. Despite the wording on the website, some ships treat those cards as 15 shots of espresso not 15 drinks. Depending on what you drink, that seriously changes the math so you may want to wait until boarding before purchasing.
  12. With MTD, you don't have to do anything together whether you are linked or not. Even people in the same cabin can eat at different times if they want to. Just make each reservation for the people that want to eat together.
  13. No drink package is good for a beer drinker. In the past when I've purchased these cards, the bartender has even stressed "Don't use this for beer."
  14. Large outbreaks for a cruise ship, yes, but still pretty small compared to pretty much anywhere in the US around that same time. I would say it's safe to assume the numbers are going down onboard just as they are on land.
  15. Right, but that should only matter at the time of booking. To my knowledge, there's no way to request a reprice through the web or app. It has always required you or your TA to actually call and request the price change. If they ever add the ability to do online repricing, it sure better have an obvious confirmation button. Automatically changing your balance due behind the scenes would cause all kinds of problems. Imagine if the original poster hadn't noticed the change and their cruise was canceled due to lack of full payment! Then imagine the chaos if repricing started occurring after every cruise planner transaction!
  16. In order to follow all CDC guidelines, basically no one should be leaving their house. Considering people are going to work, shopping, and traveling all over the world right now, it's pretty clear people aren't too worried about the CDC's status warnings. Yes, you have to be willing to roll with the local testing, masking, and other safety precautions which can get updated at any time. But that's true of your hometown too. If you're comfortable traveling, have fun.
  17. https://www.foxnews.com/us/cruise-ship-diverts-bahamas-miami-unpaid-fuel-bills Additional info in this article says Crystal Cruises is suspending all cruises until at least April. Also, their parent company (Genting Hong Kong) has started liquidation proceedings although it isn't clear whether that refers to liquidating Crystal Cruises or Genting Hong Kong itself. It says they lost $1.7 billion due to the pandemic which seems extremely high since they are so much smaller than Royal. I'm assuming they are hoping to sell one or more ships to keep the company going.
  18. Just thought I'd add that on Oasis class ships the ocean view and neighborhood view balconies are separate booking categories so you would know which type you are getting when you book the cruise.
  19. They could have been focusing on advertising the future cruises because the Spring ones are already as booked as they want/need them to be. Normally, it wouldn't matter that the earlier cruises aren't mentioned but between the pandemic and Wonder being a ship that hasn't sailed yet, it's easy for the internet to jump to conclusions. A few years ago, if Royal announced "Oasis to sail Alaska in summer 2022", no one would assume that meant Oasis Spring 2022 cruises were cancelled. Now we question everything!
  20. Some people might fail to calculate them, but others are purposely leaving those drinks out because they have no value to them. For example, I avoid soda, drink plenty of black coffee (the free stuff), and simply don't understand why anyone ever pays for bottled water. If I've already bought a package, I might grab a couple bottles of water for the convenience but because I would never pay for them, I cannot count them as there is no savings. That leaves fresh juice and milkshakes which I might get once or twice a cruise. But again, if I haven't already purchased the package, I'm perfectly happy to skip them. So that's why I only use alcohol when considering a beverage package. Even then, it's a good thing I prefer mixed drinks and wine. If I drank beer, I could never break even on a package.
  21. @ChrisK2793 Back to your original question, I think the "correct" answer is that the children should connected to the parent that has primary physical custody which I think in most all cases would be where they officially live for purposes of public schooling. However, since I don't believe Royal asks for proof of residency for children, connecting them to the parent with the higher points/status is unlikely to be questioned unless they keep updating it. I think this situation could also easily lead to the children actually having more points/status than the parents if they travel separately with both parents.
  22. Don't get me wrong, I sympathize with you. The reason Royal (or any business) handles their charges this way is all about saving money on card processing fees. Anytime you use a card, there are two possible fees the merchant pays: a swipe charge (fixed amount per transaction) and a processing charge (fixed percent per transaction). Larger merchants have some ability to negotiate those fees but they still add up. By posting daily (or even more frequent) pending charges, Royal is making sure your card can cover what you have charged. But then, they only run one real transaction at the end so they only have one swipe charge. In general, this saves them some money. I would say your case is somewhat unusual in having so few charges add up to 8K so Royal probably didn't actually save very much in your case. But their accounting system can only do what it is programmed to do. I hope it resolves soon for you!
  23. Normally, pending charges only take a couple days to fall off. If Citi says 30 days, they are just covering themselves. There's also nothing Royal can do about it, they have no power to remove pending charges. Best option is to have multiple cards and use the one with the best travel rewards for Royal and a different card for everyday expenses like groceries. At least for me, I've never found my travel card to be the best option at the grocery store (from a rewards perspective).
  24. I've previously had to close a card due to fraud but was expecting a known large charge to come through very soon. Chase allowed me to keep the original card active but restricted to that one known vendor while blocking all other activity. If your cruise/RoyalUp is coming soon, you might be able to ask your card company to do something similar.
