Curious how many of you collect the cruise ship models?  Do you store them prominently on a shelf like trophies?  I started cruising in 2018 and mistakenly didn’t get one on my first cruise on Harmony. I have since gotten one on each of the 4 cruises since then. Have myself a little cruise ship shelf on my built in bookcase in the family room.

I didn't get one on our first cruise on Oasis.... now I'm looking up at four models, too. And I'm wondering if I really need to get one for each ship, or just each class....

Either cruise will be nice in May.  I haven’t been on Liberty but did sail to Bermuda twice from the East Coast.  Once (from Bayonne) on Adventure OTS in August to celebrate my good friends’ wedding…they were on the cruise too just got off and got married at a beautiful resort…on the beach.  The other was from Manhattan on the Norwegian Prima in very early May.  I loved the weather in May.

This past May I did the same Symphony cruise and absolutely loved it.  Great weather and relaxing days.

You will not go wrong with either one but if you do this one…please let us know o this blog!

We chose the Symphony option and will join you on this cruise! We did a similar cruise on Anthem in 2022 and like it a lot. Though I'm glad this one doesn't stop in Port Canaveral.

This should be a very good Mother's Day!!

Just thought I’d add this cruise to the Rolls.
We were originally planning the Spring TransAtlantic (2025) on Odyssey.  Once planning really took shape (there’s lots to plan for sure!) we made the decision to change to the Fall TA (2025) from Rome back to Bayonne!  That freed up our Spring so now this one is happening!

Who’s going this time?  Just myself and hubby with one other couple we’ve been cruising with for a few years now!

I think we were originally booked on that trans Atlantic with you, but we had to give in to some realities and postpone the TA dream for later.

But now I'm thinking this cruise or a 5 night on Liberty to Bermuda. A Mother's Day cruise sounds especially appealing!

  4. This is tragic. The first video I saw clearly showed the ship losing electrical power twice. But it looked to me like she was already not in the channel. I suspect the cascade of events goes back before the power outages seen on the bridge webcam.

It's a nightmare scenario for everyone involved. There will likely be pressure to clear the debris and open the channel as quickly as possible. I hope they don't do that until they've recovered every person possible. Their families deserve that.

  5. We did the gold star service in 2022. It was utterly fabulous. The rear of the car had an observation area that was open to the outside air. The views were fantastic and we met some interesting people. The staff on the train were informative in a very friendly way.

There's a service called Orange Bike Delivery in Seward. They can take your bags from the cruise port to the train. It's a family run business that took very good care of us (and our mountain of baggage!) The hauled our stuff from the port to a hotel we spent the night at, then picked up from the hotel and delivered to the train station.

My family and I are booked for this trip. Very excited.
a little nervous about the Haiti stop but still looking forward to excursion.

I'm certain Royal wouldn't stop if they thought there was a hint of an issue. But this is *your* vacation. If you don't feel comfortable, stay on the ship and enjoy a "crowd free" experience! Vacations are about reducing stress and anxiety!!

Actually the scan I was having yesterday morning while having this Haiti debate ended in me being told I have a lump on my left lung. So I guess I'm not totally OK? Still processing.

Still keeping my focus on my May 4th Icon trip. And enjoy (most) of my time here. It fills my mind and time.

Wow! More than I'm sure you were asking for. LOL. Kinda so full I think I just verbally tossed my cookies folks. Sorry.

I hope you can enjoy your cruise vacation on Icon - and have a swift and uneventful treatment and recovery!!

A quick read of the Internet & Wikipedia last night revealed that political situation in Haiti has indeed disrupted port calls to Labadee. 20004 due to a coup and Freedom of the Seas called off a visit in 2016 when boats occupied by citizens blockaded the the entrance to the harbor.

I just want to take a moment to acknowledge the fact that you have THE BEST message board handle. EVER.

  9. I'll be there on Saint Patrick's Day....  or at least scheduled to be there. If we call at Labadee I will go to the beach without a worry. If we divert to a different port or have an extra sea day, well, that's cruising, isn't it? Like the weather, strife is beyond our control.

I feel badly for the regular people of Haiti. As @Zacharius has pointed out, their "government" has been a shambles for a long time. And when it wasn't a shambles it seems the only thing it was ever good at was terrorizing its own people.

In fairness Royal's executive team has a fiduciary responsibility to the shareholders.  That comes way ahead of building ships that a small subset of return guest desire.

I agree with your assessment though.  Most of my research now is going into exotic train journeys which come with stops at various places with excursions.  They are like a cruise on rails with very good food, like Michelin rated food.  My first train trip will take place this summer.  There is one in Peru, several across Australia and New Zealand that look really interesting.  Some of them are less than a balcony on Icon.

Look at the Rocky Mountaineer - they have routes in Canada and USA.

Also, check into may favorite (non-cruise) travel YouTuber - a Brit named Paul Lucas who has a lot of bucket list train trips on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/@Paul_Lucas

There's been a 7th Oasis ship already on the books with a ship code of "LE"

Legend getting another tour of duty?

A commentator on Matt's blog article suggested Paradise of the Seas, and I think that's excellent. Though RCL may want to save that for an Icon class ship. But Legend of the Seas would be epic..... heh - as would Epic of the Seas . . .
