Cruise cabin - over door organizer
melski94 replied to Kel Kel's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
On Disney ships, the over the door hooks are not allowed but you are fine on Royal. We've used it too with metal hooks and similar to what others have posted it wasn't a problem. -
We use a 3rd party. There are advantages and disadvantages to each so the biggest thing is to know what you want from trip insurance. RC insurance is expensive but will give you a credit if you can't make the cruise. We use CT Travel Insured through USAA but have also looked at insuremytrip.com which compares several plans. I recently had a claim so would recommend them just for the ease of the claim.

There are no specific teen hours however my teens at that age have always used the gym with their dad. They needed to keep working out due to their sports and a week off could be a setback for them. My teens are comfortable with a gym and as long as your son doesn't goof around no one would bother him.

It would help to know a bit about you. What do you like and if you have any kids? We are doing that exact itinerary in March. I have 4 kids ages, 19, 16, 12 and 8 now. We've been to Roatan before and loved the snorkeling there. It was probably the best we've seen. We'll do it again with a 3rd party. Coco Cay can be a beach/pool day for free or you can pay for the Waterpark. We've done and enjoyed both but because Cozumel will be a beach day for us, we'll probably do the waterpark again. In Cozumel, we'll get a taxi and either go to Mr. Sanchos or Paradise Beach. We haven't been to Costa Maya and not sure what we'll do there.

On my last cruise in July, I unexpectedly ended up taking my minor children alone without my husband due to a family emergency. No questions asked. There was no time to get a form notarized had I even thought about it as he was on a plane within hours right before we were to leave for our cruise. Technically, RC only requires the form if you are traveling without either parent. I've also traveled to Europe and Asia with the kids by myself and no problems from customs. The child will get questions from the TSA agent at the airport so you may want to prep them for that.

Coco Cay Water Park feedback please
melski94 replied to levy1980's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Harmony will most likely be the only ship in port. I was there on Navigator and Grandeur was also there so about the same number of passengers. Daredevils Peak and the Sling Shot had the longest lines. They quickly grew to an hour. @Matt posted that recently you can sign up for a reserved time for Daredevils peak similar to a fast pass but that wasn't there for me. The other slides had a 10-20 minute wait until lunch time. After lunch the lines to everything had a significantly less wait time. At 3 we walked up to Daredevils peak and waited for 10 minutes and walked on to many other slides. There's a lot more to do besides the slides. We went in the wave pool and obstacle course in the morning when the lines were at their peak and enjoyed the slides more in the afternoon with very little wait. -
Thrill waterpark reserved times?
melski94 replied to Matt's topic in Royal Caribbean News and Rumors
Interesting. I wonder if they do it all day and if they do it for the family tube slide that also had long waits. After 3, Daredevils peak and the family tube slide both had a short 10 minute wait. -
Thanks! It was my plate!

Here is a picture of our sushi class. It was very basic sushi. Crab, shrimp and I can’t remember what was in the hand roll, maybe spicy tuna? Three of us did the class. It was fun but I don’t know if I’d do it again. This was the only time I’ve eaten sushi on a ship. I’m a bit leery of the fish freshness. Our local sushi place has fish flown in several times a week so I’m a bit spoiled with incredible sushi.

Like others have said a white noise app works great and no need to pack anything else. We like the air conditioning sound on the app but there are rain forests, traffic, etc. I charge my iphone while running the app and no need for extra plugs.

Once again, I wouldn't expect the decorations to be up at 1 pm when the staterooms open. They potentially could put them up during the evening service. Turnaround day is so busy for the stateroom attendants. The stateroom attendants are super busy cleaning the rooms and decorations aren't quite as important as getting people into their room.

Alaska cruise for family, recommendations
melski94 replied to MJ Safra's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
My family with children who are 19, 16, 12 and 8 chose Ovation for 2020. Personally, I would prefer a 1 way southbound cruise for the itinerary, but my family still wanted some ship activities. -
What is the price for Voom for 2 devices? If the Voom Streaming for 2 is less than $20 a day then it is a bad deal for you. You should purchase Voom and the deluxe package separately.

Typically the onboard specials are combos deals like a massage and facial. The cheapest prices are on embarkation day, while cheaper prices are on port days and very early or very late in the day. You typically can see those discounts in the cruise planner.

Help needed for a Dubai cruise with RCI
melski94 replied to Rainer67's topic in Royal Caribbean Discussion
Welcome to the message boards. I wish we could be of more help but many of us don't have experience cruising the Middle East. My one and only cruise in the Persian Gulf was a freebie, paid for by the US Navy 20+ years. I would suggest you go to the dreaded Cruise Critic message boards as they have some destination pages which may be what you need. Also Trip Advisor is another good site with some shore excursion reviews. One suggestion would be wear clothing acceptable to local customs. That doesn't mean head to toe coverings for your wife but things like sleeveless shirts and shorts tend to be frowned upon. Shirts with sleeves, a modest skirt or pants and pack a scarf to wear as a head covering for tours that take you into a mosque. Dubai is a mix of international and traditional people. It is very safe but politics in the region is constantly changing. For that reason, I would purchase Cancel for any Reason trip insurance so if you feel it would be unsafe you can get your money back with your cruise. If you are looking to buy any jewelry, gold and diamonds are some good buys. Just do your research prior to buying anything. Good luck! -
Go to the MTD desk as soon as you board the ship and see if you can change your reservation time. That will make things less stressful however I've had the same experience as @ChessE4 where the wait staff will make every attempt to get you out early.

Here is a link to an updated height and weight limit. This says 75 pounds. The zip lines are strictly enforced and everyone is weighed. If you don't weigh enough, you could be stuck and not make it to the next platform. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/content/dam/royal/resources/pdf/perfect-day-at-cococay-frequently-asked-questions.pdf

We've never done a shore excursion in San Juan. You can go to El Morro (walk or taxi) which is $7 per adult and my kids have enjoyed it and offers some great views. Then walk leisurely back through Old San Juan to the ship. The walk back to the ship is all downhill so it makes it a very easy walk through shops, etc.

Has any negotiated a drinks package price
melski94 replied to maggieallyn95's topic in Royal Caribbean Dining
The cruise planner is under the Royal Caribbean "already booked" tab. You'll need your reservation number. You should make any entertainment reservations and purchase any dining, beverage, internet or shore excursions.- 14 replies

I know $1000 is quite a bit of money but there are so many cons to 1 room. Think of the smallest hotel room you’ve stayed in and shrink that. With the pack and play and the couch made into a bed there really isn’t much room to even walk around. You and your spouse can’t have a conversation let alone watch tv if they go to bed early or nap. I personally wouldn’t do it but that’s just me.

Is your boyfriend over 21? If so, make him be the primary guest. It would be easiest to use a Travel agent and let them figure it out. It’s no cost to you and they can figure out the payments. If you are both under 21, you can’t cruise without someone 21 or over.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but that is the way RC works the cruise planner sales. The website sale is a % off the onboard price and they use creative advertising to say BOGO 50% off. The price you see advertised is the "sale" price for each person and is shown in the fine print. You are NOT purchasing a $52 drink package and getting the second for $26 (prices are an example as they vary by ship and sailing) but the sale price assumes the 25% discount from the onboard price.

For the most part Wifi is fine. Some rooms do have better reception than others but we've always had decent wifi in our stateroom. The key is to make sure you get Stream Voom and not just Surf. My husband almost always has to do some work to do on vacation. We've had a few cruises where we did have emergencies come up and no problem with Wifi. Suggest you make sure you allow your phone to make wifi calls. If you are only getting a 1 device package, look into @twangster travel router tips so you could use your cell phone and laptop at the same time.

Happy Anniversary! Following along as I'm in a major dry dock! We loved Symphony when we sailed for our anniversary in May.

Coco Cay is much less strict about the slides than the ship. I saw many people use Go Pros on Cococay slides. Typically the ship slides, including Harmony, won't allow you to take anything on the slides. No watches, jewelry, etc.
