L454S got a reaction from SharonS in Disembarking timelines?
It's my experience that these times are a bit optimistic even without weather or other delays. This past Sunday on Navigator, the first call for self disembark was at 7:40AM(listed as 7 in as are most others we have been on). Then you have to figure getting bags and going through customs, sometimes hard to predict time lines.

Have seen this on a few different cruises. Problem here is there are many folks(2 in my family) that are allergic to pet dander. It gets in the room carpet along with hair. Try being in an elevator with one. Have seen one lady bring her lap dog(PET) to the dining room with her. Finally one night they had enough complaints, they asked her to leave.

There is NO place on a cruise ship that is a good place for a dog to lift his leg. Have seen dog crap on the deck outside the pool area on Allure T/A. That little square box with wood shavings on the back of the Promenade deck for all to admire is what they are supposed to use.

Have seen a double stroller (like 2 children) with 2 poodles being paraded around on one cruise.

It has gotten to the point that people just choose to bring their PETS along because RCI is hesitant to say NO. If you genuinely need a LAP dog 24 hours a day, consider not being cooped up with 3000+ people for extended periods. If you are just bringing your PET, you should be ashamed.

We did it for a southbound Alaska sailing on the Island Princess (Whittier to Vancouver). First in 2004 and again in 2012. Second time we took along 3 other couples who had never been to Alaska and were chomping at the bit.

I just did disembark in Boston. As stated above, it is not a "regular" cruise terminal. It will take a bit longer for the FLOW to work it's way off the ship. 9-10 should be about right. The problem is out on the street serving the terminal, very narrow and people getting off mixing with people getting on. Taxis, vans, transfers from hotels, etc......quite a line

Done the first week September sailings in Alaska (round trip and one way) 3 times and loved the cruises and the savings. It was a bunch cheaper for the balcony cabins whether on RCI or Princess and NO.....it's not cold !!!!!

    Don't tell anybody though...........

We bring one of these on all cruises. It's $13.99 at Walmart. We found our cabin stewards were VERY interested in these fans for their cabins. We pack them in our checked luggage and have never had anything questioned. After the cruise we give them to the cabin steward, they are very thankful. Get a fresh one for the next trip.

The problem with a 3 day cruise is bang for the buck. With airfare and all other travel expenses being equal, the cost of a 3 day cruise is expensive.

Been a year since I sailed the Navigator, but it was a very nice experience. First time we had been on anything larger than Radiance class. Have it booked again in January.

The Royal Promenade and ice rink were great, but you know about these if you sailed the Allure. Navigator might be an Allure without the external boardwalk or central park. I would recommend it.

Agree with you about these little things adding up. Did 19 straight days on the Jewel a few weeks ago, and found the same thing. This doesn't work here, nobody knows about that, etc. Things wrong in the cabin seemed to be a real chore to resolve, no hot water, no TV, safe does not work. There are no real repair people, just some newbee's with a screwdriver going cabin to cabin to pit out as many fires as possible.

This was after the ship came out of a $30,000,000 dry dock. Was the cruise ruined?.....NO, but it was not what I was used to with Royal

L454S got a reaction from David Bennett in Jewel of the seas refurbishment
We are sailing on the Jewel as it comes out of dry dock B2B April 24(4 day), and 28(15 day T/A) out of Ft. Lauderdale. Have been doing some reading about the changes. Adding Izumi where the Seaview Cafe is now(ala Serenade). Refurbing Chops, refurbing Portofino's and renaming Giovani's. Making the current Concierge Lounge into a family oceanview cabin # 1054(I think suite). Whacking off a chunk of the Viking Crown Lounge to make the new CL. I think they are adding about 10 balcony cabins on deck 11, forward starboard, cutting out a chunk of the spa. I would assume some other minor sprucing up, could be a few other things, but those stuck out.

Will be happy to report back, we're going to get a good long look at the changes including the new CL.

Agree with Todd. You now almost need a calculator to really know how much a cruise costs, and make comparisons. With all the added drink packages, OBC, dining packages, etc., it's like buying a car.

Everybody seems to be caught up in the big "SALE" game, but evidently it works for their marketing dept. I am glad I have the time and now some experience to sift through the hype to see what the cruise fare is. Then we can start adding on with gratuities, port taxes, etc., etc........did I mention it's like buying a car?
