  1. It's a pretty safe bet that the first Icon class ship is going to be named Icon of the Seas... follows their naming convention/pattern. Melody of the Seas sounds nice and would fit the current naming trend, but who knows for sure since Oasis and Allure were the first two in the class.
  2. I'm so sorry to hear about your ankle and the turn of events with Cuba ?. My wife and I were on Majesty back in 2010. I'm sure you and your daughters will have an amazing time!
  3. Have a Happy Birthday and an amazing cruise! We'll also be following! My MIL is now 80 and mobility impaired too (knee replacement a few years ago). We would love to take her on another cruise (my FIL has no desire to cruise ?) and Navigator is on the short list if we can coordinate it with her!
  4. I agree with @arebee... we have always chosen My Time dining as a preference and have never had to sit with another party. Our party size has varied from two to five people. On our Allure cruise last month, we saw many tables of two and three seated throughout the My Time level of the MDR. Enjoy your cruise!
  5. Yes... and it was only that price early on (6+ months prior)... it did drop back down to $24.99 a couple months before the cruise.
  6. For our Allure cruise last month (May), the price jumped around over the course of six months or so prior and could be seen on the Cruise Planner at $19.99, $24.99, $29.99 & $37.99 from what I recall. We were lucky to grab it at $19.99 in the early going.
  7. ... and correct me if I'm mistaken, but Harmony is the only Oasis class ship without a pool in the solarium. Certainly not a deciding point, but just another difference.
  8. Have a great time! I'll definitely be following along... would love to do Anthem soon since it's so close for us!
  9. We paid $45/day on Allure last month (caught a 30% off sale)... BOGO 50% was $49/day (effectively 25% off) and the usual 20% Cruise Planner price was $52/day for our cruise. The underlying full price (or onboard price) was $65/day. Just remember you will also pay an 18% gratuity on top of that price.
  10. We've only booked directly through Royal to date (not sure if that speeds things up), but we've had to cancel 2 cruises over the past 3+ years due to various reasons and each time Royal has credited my deposit back within one week (both were refunded within 3-4 bus. days in our case). At that time (not sure if it changed), I simply logged into the website and cancelled the cruise (no phone calls required) and I received a cancellation confirmation immediately via e-mail. Similar timelines as Cruise Planner cancellations in our experience.
  11. Just some final thoughts to wrap things up! This was our first cruise on an Oasis class ship. Our prior RC cruises were on Majesty, Explorer and Liberty (in that order). My wife and I have entered the bigger and newer is better stage of our cruising lives and the Allure exceeded our high expectations going into the cruise! My wife, from the time we booked over a year prior, kept stating that this cruise would be "epic" and she was not wrong! I was just hoping it would not be "NCL Epic"... no mechanical failures and dock crashes! ? We now want the "WOW" factor that these ships deliver. We definitely agree with @Lovetocruise2002 and the Oasis class is now our favorite class of ship! We still want to sail and experience Anthem too since she's in our backyard (no airfare - woohoo)! One of the most common misconceptions that I hear from folks at home that have yet to sail on an Oasis class ship is that it must be so crowded with 5.5K-6K+ passengers onboard. I think they believe it will be like Penn Station or Grand Central Station everywhere you go! Every person that we have spoken to (including all of the great feedback and insight on the forum) that has sailed an Oasis class ship has completely dismissed that assumption. These ships are so well designed to handle and disperse crowds (I hear the Quantum class has some traffic issues). OK... Yes, when you're entering or exiting any venue after a show it will be crowded, but that's certainly not unique and is unavoidable since everyone is leaving at the same time. Yes, on a sea day the pool deck and solarium will be busy by mid to late morning. That has been true of every ship we've sailed to date. However, we had no problem walking through the pool deck and solarium at any time of day. Yes, the Royal Promenade will be busy when they have some sort of show or event... true of any ship. We would avoid the Promenade if something was going on and would take an alternate route to traverse the ship (pool deck, Central Park, etc.). Yes, the Windjammer will be crazy busy by mid-morning especially on sea days! ... and Yes, you will have to wait for elevators during certain peak times of the day (around meal and show times, etc.). We would try to take the stairs if it was just a couple of decks. At other times, we could be the only people waiting for an elevator on our side of the deck! However, most of the time there were no crowds! You can probably see in my pics that most of the common areas were not crowded. I could walk through Central Park and maybe encounter a handful of people walking around (not of course including those seated in the restaurants). When we walked through the Boardwalk it was never crowded. Very few people on the Sun Deck and bridge wings. There are so many places to go onboard for peace and quiet when you would like some. Some Positives/Comments: We elected for My Time dining, our first choice, and booked our times (6:00 PM every evening except for later times on 2 port days - Jamaica & Cozumel) in advance on the Cruise Planner. We had the same awesome server team (Kadek, Oleksandr & Jose) every night (even on the later evenings) and we were seated at the same window table 6 of the 7 evenings (we had specialty dining only for lunch this cruise - Chops, Giovanni's and Izumi). The odd evening when our usual table was occupied, we elected to wait maybe 15-20 minutes for another table in the same section to open up. We wound up with the other window table in our section next to our usual table! The Key was worth every penny especially at $19.99! The overall experience was so amazing that we all feel we have to purchase the Key from now on as long as it's offered and reasonably priced! We are only Platinum level in C&A and it's unlikely we'll be able to book a suite anytime soon so the Key was the only way to get some of that amazing VIP treatment! We all wanted the VOOM package anyway, so for effectively less than $10/person per day more, it was a no-brainer for all of us! The Nellie's Beach over-the-water cabana was amazing (cabana NW4)! The attendant (Regis) and driver (Willie) made it even more special. If my wife an I had cruised alone, we would not have splurged for this cabana. If you go with family and/or friends, we highly recommend renting one of these cabanas! All of our specialty dining meals for lunch were outstanding (Chops - the Key complimentary lunch, Giovanni's - CP balcony cabin complimentary lunch, and Izumi). The Key debarkation breakfast in the MDR was really nice, but the expedited and escorted departure from the ship through the terminal and through security was amazing! We were led directly to our waiting luggage and proceeded through a special customs line (aisle we entered was marked for Star class) and were out in less than 10 minutes! Nice change in how they organize your photos taken by Royal throughout the cruise! It has changed since we last sailed in OCT 2015. The days of walking through the photo gallery hunting for your individual photos (often buried under someone else's photos) sorted by day and/or event are apparently over. They now create binders for each stateroom and you are assigned a specific tower and slot in the Focus photography store/gallery. Your photo tower info is printed on your SeaPass card. Just find your assigned tower and slot and grab your binder... the pics taken up that point are all together! Ahhh, the little things! Some Negatives/Comments: Checking in at the terminal and boarding the ship was horrible to say the least! We took the time to complete the pre-cruise check-in process and set up our profile, uploaded our photos, scanned our passports and linked our credit card well before the cruise. However, when we got to the check-in area, we were delayed as the terminal employee insisted she had to take another photo, re-scan our passports, etc. What is the purpose of offering pre-cruise check-in if you need to go through the entire process all over again at the terminal? The delay was compounded as all four of us had to wait while she went though the check-in process! Once we finally got past the check-in stage, we entered the waiting area and asked for assistance as we all purchased the Key and did not know where to wait to board. They looked at our printed SetSail passes and our digital SetSail passes, but stated we could not advance to the Key waiting area since the SetSail pass did not indicate we had the Key! Even after I showed them proof that we purchased the Key (invoice from the Cruise Planner), we were told we had to wait in another section along with everyone else. They seemed very confused and had to consult with each other. We could tell that it was going to be at least 30-60 minutes from that point. We grabbed another terminal employee to explain the situation... he explained that the suite and Key guests have already boarded the ship! He finally let us jump on the line to board the ship. I cannot believe that no one had iPads or printed lists in the boarding area (as they have in the check-in area) to confirm our reservation and Key status. Lesson learned... make sure you get a new SetSail pass printed with the Key logo at the terminal before entering the waiting area (one of the groups behind us had these) if your SeaPass does not have the Key logo! The Prohibition Party was not what we expected. We understood there was a story aspect to the party, but expected more music and dancing. I think the band only played a handful of songs the entire 2 hours of the party! We mistakenly expected a normal lounge/club style seating arrangement, but they set the club up theater style and we wound up sitting in the second to last row. A bunch of folks got up half-way through the party and left... It was fun for all of us to dress in 20's garb, but I don't think we'll ever do the Prohibition Party again. Once again, we had an amazing time overall and can't wait until our next cruise. My wife started planning our next cruise with our friends during the cruise! They have narrowed it down to Harmony, out of Port Canaveral (very convenient for our friends), in either April or May 2021... I think my wife is more obsessed than me with researching now! ? We definitely have to include Perfect Day as one of the stops this time. I don't know if we can wait that long! LOL! Now, Mariner and Navigator 4-night cruises have caught our eye... hmmm... may something to satisfy our hunger until Harmony? We didn't take advantage of Next Cruise promo because we did not nail down a month/year with our friends and the Summer of 2021 schedule has not been released. We met with a Next Cruise rep for info, but he confirmed that if we wanted the fully refundable deposit option, we would have to put down the normal deposit ($500 instead of $200 for non-refundable) and the OBC would be reduced to $75 (instead of $100 for a balcony cabin). Thanks for following and I apologize for the delay! I just found out this weekend that another really good friend of ours booked Allure for her family of four (6/30/19 sailing - same itinerary)! She's a hardcore Disney cruiser (18 cruises on Disney and counting!) and is a little overwhelmed with Royal's process with only 4 weeks to plan... she forgot that we just sailed on Allure and that another one of our friends just sailed on Harmony (same itinerary too)... I think we all can help! ? If anyone has any questions, please let me know!
  12. You’re very welcome! 203 days will be here before you know it! We also booked way out (over a year) and that time flew by with the help of all the great people on this forum!
  13. Yes, USB hubs appear to be fine... just got back last week on Allure and I used one of these hubs for comparison. I believe it was recommended here on the forum. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P936188/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  14. You're welcome! The dinner dress code guideline listed on the Cruise Planner is specifically for the MDR for that evening. Generally speaking, the dress code in Specialty restaurants is more toward the "neat" (pants, collared shirt, shoes, etc.), for lack of a better term, or even formal side regardless of the evening since they are considered more upscale dining options. It varies based on the specific restaurant... Sabor or Izumi may be casual while 150 CP, Chops Grill, etc., may be more toward nicer wardrobe. You won't be turned away either way unless your attire is inappropriate/offensive. As @MikeK mentioned above, people tend to do what they want... some people dress casual on formal nights in the MDR while others still dress formal on casual evenings! Dress code is subjective and just a recommended guideline. Also, many folks like to dress up on formal evenings because they take tons of pictures in the MDR and throughout the ship in front of various backdrops.
  15. Hello @CraniumDrain ! Formal nights are generally a part of all cruises and are not posted ahead of time. You can be pretty confident of the actual nights by looking at a recent Cruise Compass from Harmony with the itinerary that matches yours: https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/cruise-compass?ship=1071 If you look at the top right-hand corner of the cover page on each day's Cruise Planner, you will see the appropriate attire for that evening... The number of nights varies based on length of cruise, ship, etc. Harmony will likely have 2 formal nights since most itineraries are 7-nights. The actual days could change based on the specific itinerary (eg. Western vs. Eastern Caribbean). Here is some info pulled directly from RC website: Formal nights: 3/4/5 Night Cruises - Usually on Day 2 6 Night Cruises - Usually on Day 2 and 5 7 Night Cruises - Usually on Day 2 and 6 8 - 10 Night Cruises - 2 Formal Nights, Days vary by ship and sailing 11 - 14 Night Cruises - 3 Formal Nights, Days vary by ship and sailing 15+ Night Cruises - 3 or 4 Formal Nights, Days and number vary by ship and sailing Oasis and Allure - Day 2 and 5 on Western itineraries and Day 2 and 6 on Eastern itineraries Empress of the Seas - Formal Nights are not offered on some sailings Actual link: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/questions/formal-dress-code-guideline Have a great time!
  16. Thanks @Skid ! Loved your joint blog with @CGTLH too! Awesome coverage of your cruise! Eyeing Harmony or Symphony next! I definitely plan on trying 150 CP down the road!
  17. Day 8, SUN (5/26/19).. Debarkation... Final morning... we headed to our Key breakfast in the MDR on Deck 4 a little after 8:00 AM. We left our carry-ons outside the restaurant with the crew members. The restaurant was nice and quiet. There were a few tables in the restaurant, but they spread us out so we were not on top of each other. I had the Royal VIP Signature with a side of sausage and fresh squeezed OJ (had to use that DBP one last time ?).. really good! Going out in a blaze of glory! After breakfast we were sent to the Champagne bar to wait for our escort off of the ship. After about 10 minutes or so, the crew member came back from escorting the last group to lead us out. We received special Key luggage tags the night before to tag our luggage. Now we were led off the ship and through the terminal to our luggage which was in an area just for Key guests next to the Star class banners. Sorry I didn’t take pics. A porter loaded our bags and led us through the Star class (banner) line to the customs officer... we literally had no one in front of us and was led out of the terminal in about 5 minutes or so to the taxi. What a huge timesaver! Everyone else in the terminal had to wait on a very long, snaking line to get through customs. Headed back to the Holiday Inn to pick up our friend’s car and then they dropped us off at the airport. We said our goodbyes for now. I had already reserved a car for the day as our flight was not until after 6:00 PM. We decided to just drive up SR A1A along the coast, grabbed lunch, and finally headed back to drop the car off and head to the Southwest terminal. I think she was calling us back... LOL! P What an amazing cruise! I’ll be back with final thoughts...
  18. It's so funny that your brought up the baby/powder blue hull color! When we were in the souvenir shop on Allure, I was looking at the ship model and I was complaining to my wife that it was not accurate because the hull was blue on the model. When we docked in Labadee and we were walking down the pier I first realized the hull is baby/powder blue on Allure! When we boarded the ship on embarkation day, I had never looked at the hull to notice it! It is harder to see the color in bright sunlight and from a distance. I like a nice bright white hull too!
  19. ... Day 7, SAT (5/25/19)... Last full day of cruise and a Sea day ? We all had breakfast once again at the Solarium Bistro. We kept it light as we made reservations at Izumi for lunch! After breakfast, we headed to the Boardwalk to explore. Here are some pics... Heading toward the Aqua Theater... you can just make out someone on the zipline! Walking behind the theater... Next we moved up to get a higher vantage point... once again, you can see the effect of the compromised azipod in the wake (to the left in this pic)... no noticeable impact on our cruise. The ship was actually cruising at 22.9 knts SAT evening after dinner for a period so she hasn't lost a step! ... on to Izumi for our last lunch... we sat on the restaurant side... everything is a la carte... Complimentary Edamame... We started with some delicious Shrimp Wonton Soup and Pork Gyoza Dumplings... We ordered two rolls... Snow Crab California roll and a Surf and Turf roll... both delicious! We love Japanese restaurants so we’ll be back! Maybe the hibachi next time! After killing some time, we headed to the Amber Theater to see Blue Planet. With the Key, we were again seated in the center of the theater just behind the booth... Maybe it was just us, but the show was a little disjointed. All of the performers were very talented, but the scenes seemed a little forced maybe? Not a very good flow. Now that we’ve seen it once, I don’t think we would see this show again. Just a random shot of the walkway in the center of Central Park (zoomed in from our Deck 11 balcony earlier)... I guess you would call this a medallion or plaque? 7 The last dinner... I think we still have a little more room left... we're almost at full capacity! Here is the menu: I had the Crispy Coconut Shrimp for my appetizer, the Cheese Tortellini with Meat Sauce for my entree, and the Pavlova for dessert. All very good. A shot of the four of us with our awesome MDR team... Kadek (waiter) to the right, Oleksandr (asst. waiter) second from left, and Jose (beverage) in the back middle. We had this team all 7 evenings (My Time dining) and a great window table to boot! Kadek is getting married in a few months after his current contract ends! Best of luck to him and his future bride! We said our goodbyes and eventually made our way back to the cabin to finish packing... all checked bags needed to be tagged and in the hall by 11:00 PM. We stayed in for the night and spent time on the balcony enjoying our last evening on Allure with our friends while listening to the musicians playing just below us in Central Park.
  20. Hi @Vlgg ! We, along with our friends, booked 2 adjacent Central Park balcony cabins for our Allure Cruise last week. Just an FYI, you can ask your room attendant to have the balcony partitions removed if you want to share balconies (don’t worry, only part of the partition is removable allowing passage from balcony to balcony). For your complimentary specialty lunch, you have a choice of Giovanni’s Table, Sabor or Johnny Rockets. We went to Giovanni’s Table for our CP balcony lunch. We made the reservations once onboard at the restaurant. No need to go to the hospitality desk. As you mentioned, you’ll get a bottle of red wine (merlot) and a free casino lesson too (we never took advantage of this perk). Here is the letter we received in our cabin last week on embarkation day... I’m sorry it’s a little hard to read... Have a great time!
  21. I believe you get one burger/sandwich and unlimited refills of the sides (fries and onion rings). We did not go to Johnny Rockets for lunch this time (Allure last week), just for the complimentary breakfast.
