  1. An Amped ship is a ship that Royal refitted to include more of the modern amenities. For example, Oasis of the Seas was Amped to include things like the Bionic Bar and Ultimate Abyss dry slide which debuted after the Oasis was originally launched. Amping a ship allows it to feel newer without Royal having to build a whole new ship and it keeps people interested in sailing them. Plus, on a money-making side, Royal can justify charging more for these amped older ships because they have so much to make them "new". Other things you might have seen floating around: UDP = Unlimited Dining Package DBP = Deluxe Beverage Package GS = Grand Suite OS = Owner's Suite AS = Aquatheater Suite ....I know I'm forgetting some.....but most of these are just shorthand jargon to avoid typing a bunch and you don't really need to know them beyond these forums.
  2. Sounds like you're in the best hands! I haven't had the pleasure of working with Sharla but her presence on here is always super helpful and on top of things so I'm certain you're getting the best of the best in your discounts.
  3. There are 2 reasons why you may not see the discount: 1 - I have heard that if Royal is offering a better deal they won't apply the C&A because it could void the larger discount. 2 - if you/your TA didn't apply your c&a number at booking time. Otherwise, it's possible that once the cruise is booked, all of the cost details are hidden and you may be able to get a breakdown invoice by calling Royal or asking your TA.
  4. Sounds like while Solstice class might be nice, I would be better off giving Edge a try for my first Celebrity experience.
  5. There were almost no kids on our visit and those that we did see were generally with family at the beach. There is a kids-only pool somewhere (from pictures on tripadvisor it seems like it is removed from the main area) but we never saw it. This Above, the kids pool. Below, an aerial view of the main area when you first walk in. As you can see, the kids pool is not visible in this area. I think it's okay for families; it does feel like it was designed with families in mind. The vibe was chill but not stuffy. I have a very vibrant inner child and tend to feel more comfortable in areas designed for young adults than for real adults, and I felt super comfortable. Never too old or too young. I didn't see anything like a splash area and at the time we were there the teen club didn't seem to be occupied. If the kids are fine to splash around in the beach or pool, eat food, snorkel or play on the grounds - probably fine. Oh! there was a trampoline area set up, too, on the way to the teen area. Again, no one was using it but I imagine it's something you could get set up for if you asked.
  6. "Purell, purell, purell" shouldn't make me laugh.....but it does
  7. I know Alpha is medical emergency and Oscar is man overboard. Heard Alpha on debarkation off Allure recently. Not sure what happened but it was specified it was on the ramp. Thankfully never heard Oscar
  8. Royal has driving directions and addresses to each port semi-buried in their FAQ page. A blog post will definitely be nice though since it would be all in one place. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/faq/topics/directions-cruise-port
  9. If you are in Sky Class you can order all items from the traditional room service menu including the breakfast card AND dinner from the MDR. Water, juice (apple, oj, lemonade), standard coffees and teas are included. Soda and alcohol are not no matter what drink package you have. Specialty dining restaurants are not no matter what dining package you have. The room service menu has pizza, burgers, hot dogs, chips, salmon, grilled cheese, chicken wings, some cakes, cookies and a few more items I'm blanking on. Most all of it is pretty equal to what you'd get in Windjammer.
  10. I've had both types of holds. On our cruise a couple weeks ago we both had holds of 99.75 (no, I don't know why they just didn't take a solid 100) but in the past, I've gotten "charges" for each seapass swipe on my CC then they go away just after the cruise ends.
  11. We had googly eyes on every one but the swans We use a dry erase board on the inside of the cabin door to communicate with our stateroom attendant - has worked great 2 out of 2 cruises so far.
  12. Not yet. We only just got Diamond status officially last week I do know Disney tends to be more expensive but as a Disney, Marvel and Star Wars fan there is quite a bit that attracts my attention.
  13. That's fair. Looking back I realize the way I wrote that was much more catastrophizing than I meant it to be.
  14. This was on our last cruise. After getting the first towel animal, I left a cute note saying I wanted to keep it, success in used to royal breaking them down the next morning. For the rest of the 8-night cruise we had towel animals every night. This is our fifth cruise and we've *never* had animals every night. It's a small thing but coming back every night to see an adorable animal on the bed waiting for me had me smiling every night. I know it's not as big as waiters running all over the ship (though once on our first cruise we didn't know the mdr didn't have freestyle machines hiding in the back so we asked for soda unique to them in our cups and the waiter did run to the machine up two decks to fill them) but it still was really nice.
  15. That was our thought. It was quiet, calm, and we had a GREAT view of the airport which was fun to see.
  16. I do hope though, that Quantum gets whatever service it needs to not keep having issues. While the ship is doing alaska is rarely far from land, the fact is no one wants to be in a abandon ship scenario
  17. So far, we've been loyal to royal because of C&A. We could only afford to cruise on average every 18mos so it was important to us to stick with royal because it wasn't a gamble, helped us climb the points ladder and would reward us as we climbed. Funny enough, now that we've reached Diamond on Royal, we're officially looking elsewhere - at Celebrity mainly since they will match loyalty. I am also personally interested in trying Disney and NCL and maybe even Brand Whaletail just so I can have a well-rounded view.
  18. Howdy and congrats! I'm pretty sure reservations for restaurants are made on board and Coastal Kitchen is part of that. As a junior suite (Sea Class) guest, you will only be able to use CK for dinner with a reservation. While CK is open for lunch on embarkation day (as well as all meals on all other days) Sea Class guests are not able to make use of CK for anything but dinner.
  19. If you have a TA they should be able to do it for you. Just send over the redemption screen once you "purchase" it within the app. All the instructions are on that screen so it would, at bare minimum, be a matter of them just following those instructions. But I say should because it seems to really depend on the TA. I have one of the tons of perks/low proactivity TAs (hey...I like perks) and when I tried to get her to do it, she claimed that Royal was going to reprice my whole cruise to apply it and that would have lost me all my deals and been more expensive. I ended up calling the number on the redemption instructions myself and had Royal apply it directly. It was there within an hour.
  20. The basics of the myvegas apps as far as I understand them are you get points for playing the slot games in the app. Doesn't matter what game, doesn't matter if you win the turn or not, doesn't seem to matter how much you bet, just how long you play. Which is why many people just turn the game, set it to auto and let it run. Eventually, you do hit a daily cap of how many points you can earn so it's really only worth it to let the game run non-stop for an hour or two then go about your day. These free-to-earn points can then be used to redeem OBC, cruises, land-based vacation discounts etc.
  21. T_T saw this pop back up to the front page and got excited thinking a new schedule was announced.
  22. I think...they don't offer it as the base fare because it is entirely possible to cruise on Royal without adding on drinks, internet, excursions, photos, etc in terms of add-ons. You get free food, beverages, lodging, entertainment, housekeeping, and the ports included in your fare. There is no NEED to have the extras. Yeah..they are LOVELY. I always get the soda package and the photo package and of course I love knowing my day in port will be well spent so I get an excursion....but it's not necessary to have a full an complete cruise. As others said, if people want free drinks, specialty dining, and wifi there is Star Class and your base fare is higher to include those costs.
