CFL reacted to WAAAYTOOO in Canada's Ban on Cruise Ships Extended to 2022
If Royal has any integrity at all, they will cancel the entire Alaska season immediately.  As for L&S, I would think that they would allow it since they allowed it for the Quantum cancellations.

Celebrity just had a webinar on Alaska. When they talked about Skagway, they also noted the train and suggested that rather than taking the train out to the end and back, replace the return trip with a ride on the bus back so you see different areas. Alternately, if you think you'll have good luck with the weather / don't mind the cold / are good on a bike, you can actually bike back to the port; the presenter said you'll only be pedaling for maybe 5 or 10 minutes, the rest of the time is spent riding the brakes as it's downhill almost the entire way.
The other thing the presenter noted was to sit on the left side for the train ride, and then if you take the bus back to also sit on the left side.

Just a note to those who are L&S’ing their bookings...if you have a refundable deposit on your 2021 bookings and want to keep a refundable deposit for 2022, be SURE that you verify this fact before you get off the phone with them (or make sure your TA does if you are using a TA).  Royal has a very bad history of changing refundable deposits to NRD when they L&S a booking. Once they complete the transfer and you get off the phone it is next to impossible to get your refundable deposit reinstated once you notice the change.  Do NOT assume that your refundable will shift over.  They will almost certainly convert it to a NRD unless you insist that it remain refundable.

Exactly. If you're OK with that and it's a sailing you really wanted, and the '22 option is basically the same, then no harm. But if that's money you could use for something else now, and you're OK with whatever price change is there in the '22 option or other near-date options, and you can pay that off over time or lump-sum in '22, then taking the refund if offered with no penalty could be better.

I think in my case, L&S wasn't even an option until after final payment date. But let's assume it's the same.
You can do the L&S, but because you're after final payment it will carry over whatever cancellation penalty you were at on the original cruise. So you can change your mind post-L&S and just cancel the new booking, but will forfeit the same amount you'd have forfeited if you just canceled the original cruise booking before Royal had done it.
It might be better to just cancel the current booking if Royal is now offering 100% cash back with no penalty. If you have a good option for 2022 to L&S into, I think '22 is a pretty good bet to happen. But don't rush it, and decide whether you're better off taking the L&S option (which should still give you price protection from the '21 sailing into '22) or just getting a full refund and changing to a '22 sailing on a different date that you think is better.

If you by measures and restriction you mean masks (we wear them so often now we don't even notice it), less crowds, more open areas and more staff per patron I'm all in. Let the "I'm not going until I can wave my freak flag when ever and where ever" stay home and I and my spouse will enjoy ourselves. We have four cruises booked throughout 2021 and I'm in-line for the vaccine as soon as it is available which will be soon here for my group in Texas. Will have our card and passports stamped "COVID-19 Inoculated" so we can enjoy life, the beach and other ports of call. Watch out 2021, here I come! ??️?️

Hi everyone this is my first post on this blog.  I've been sailing with Royal Caribbean since 2008, I have sailed on other cruise lines as well but Royal Caribbean is the best in my opinion.
I do agree with he is saying, I moved both of my 2020 cruises to late October (Symphony of the Seas) and November (Odyssey of the Seas) 2021 and we moved a European cruise to late May (Odyssey of the Seas) 2022.  I 100% believe the cruise industry has been unfairly targeted by the CDC and health organizations around the world while airlines and hotels have been allowed to make up the rules as they go along, having said that I do think people on booked on earlier cruises in 2021 will be in for a few surprises.  I work in the travel industry and the thing that is coming up now for 2021 is vaccination requirements in order to travel especially internationally. In most countries from what I'm hearing the vaccine should be widely available by mid-summer 2021 any one thinking of international travel before then not a good idea.  To reopen and jumpstart tourism and salvage some part of the 2021 busy season I'm hear a lot of place will require visitors to show proof they've been vaccinated.  Call me crazy but I think in time this may migrate over to the cruise industry, I think once the vaccine is widely available cruise lines may require all guest to show proof of vaccination before they are allowed to set foot on any cruise ship. Testing is good and testing is a great way to restart the industry but I don't think it will end with just testing I think requiring all passengers be vaccinated is coming by fall 2021.

Common sense really, if you are happy to cruise with measures and restrictions in place then book a cruise for 2021, if you dont want so many restrictions in place then dont book it for 2021 leave it for 2022 and hope things are back to some sort of normality by then ?
One thing he missed out though, if you book a cruise for 2021 and dont enjoy it due to all the restrictions dont bloody moan about it lol

Just had this come up in my recommendations, as I've been watching a number of Gary Bembridge's "Tips for Travelers" videos lately. He's being practical in his outlook, and actually echoing a fair number of points that @twangster has raised over the last couple of weeks / months. Watch and judge for yourself, but he's definitely not being outlandish or alarmist in his presentation. Definitely lines up with how I've been feeling about this situation since this past summer.

I had a big issues with getting a refund for an excursion that was auto-cancelled after a lift-and-shift.  I just figure that my best bet going forward is to manually cancel items in cruise planner proactively once I know a cruise is going to be cancelled (or shifted).

@Baked AlaskaI second this. The way things were finally refunded was a crazy mess, no ryme or reason. @Sharlahas my back when it comes to fares but i don't feel at ease on my own with RCCL cruise planner purchases. I truly agree whole heartedly with YOU!

After our last fiasco of RCG putting our cruise planner purchases from our spring break canceled cruise towards another cruise and then trying to get that refunded back to the original form of payment (which took a v.e.r.y. l.o.n.g. time +90 days), I don't care what the sales are. I'm not buying until I know we are sailing. Our first sailing of 2021 is Alaska Quantum of the Seas in July. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Not participating in this BF sale is hard for me. Bah humbug. ?

Flights listed on Southwest Airlines website. Already changed my departure flight to be from Miami when I get off of Allure in Febuary.

We are sailing out of Seattle on Quantum June 28. I'm not buying flights until April (as much as it makes my teeth itch!). I figure by then, RCG will have made the decision on whether or not to scrap the entire Alaska season.

I think it depends on what you enjoy spending your time doing, both areas have alot to offer.
I'm a Florida native for over 55 years, some of which were in Key West and now currenty in the Daytona area. So I can also say such things.

Key west is overrated. Go half way to marathon or islamorada. Much better experience. Key west is like the Daytona or Panama City of the Keys. Fun for a few hours but that’s about it. I’m a Floridian so I can say such things! ?

I actually hate Key West, don't get me wrong the drive there is beautiful. But I always seem to luck out and go when drunken youths exist. Then for the quality everything seems to be expensive. I wouldn't even go back if it was a port stop, that would be a ship day.
I love a good train ride, did one from Germany to Switzerland almost a decade ago. It was beautiful and relaxing. Wanted to do another but more awesome stuff keeps coming up. Now with COVID, trains have become a better option.
