Vancity Cruiser got a reaction from emmef in Good news if you have been dreaming of west coast cruises
As I've mentioned on another thread a while back, a very reliable source told me the Liberty is moving to the west coast when Royal moves an Oasis class ship to Galveston.

Vancity Cruiser got a reaction from WannaCruise in Research Firm Estimates When Ships Will Sail
I found this article extremely interesting, especially the 44% by end of 2021. Seems low and still extremely tough for cruise lines financially.
I wonder how accurate the research is?

Very interesting...as it seems like for the past 9 months, its all been about how we can cruise safely with protocols in place during the pandemic..now, that seems to be a moot point....ultimately it was probably always going to come down to wide-spread vaccine roll outs.

Seems like alot of money and time and resources went into plan A, which really never came to fruition. Will there be somethings they learned and implement from it?...probably..but at the end of the day, that will have had no bearing on cruising resuming...imho.

Management heads hitting the ceiling of salary cap while at the same time reaching for the basement door. A feat that can only be accomplished my TML management, year, after year, after year.
When cruising (what's that??) and people ask where we are from, it's not uncommon to be asked if we follow the Leafs. The answer..."Well, we know about them. It's kind of like a reality show, but with a real live arena where you pay in the area of $400/ea for nose bleed seats hoping to be on TV. None of it is real."

It is just a question of how good your lobbyists are. While rubbing shoulders with a complete stranger is not seen as problematic, being on a ship with very stringent cleaning procedures and as much space and clean air as possible is a strict NO NO. May be there are other things we don't know about ...

Vancity Cruiser reacted to CrimsonCruiser in Your last cruise memory
Last cruise memory was being back in the Western and seeing how much Cozumel had expanded since our first visit. It was also the first cruise where we opted to stay on board while in a port and I really enjoyed the day of chill relaxation. Got to get in the main pool and sun bathe and eat without elbowing people for space.

But...my favorite memory and the thing that makes me miss cruising so much is still from the first cruise we ever took back in 2015. I still get chills thinking about every part of it.
My favorite story to tell about it is on boarding. We went through Security and all that jazz, which is, obviously, in a brick and mortar building. As we followed the arrows marked boarding, I saw out the window of the pathway this large, mostly glass building and I thought to myself, "wow what a pretty hotel. We must have to pass through it to get to the ship on the other side." ( i thought it was maybe a staff hotel or a Royal Caribbean owned hotel that people could book before their trip)
Lo and behold...that WAS the ship. It took me quite a few minutes - even after being on board - to realize that and I was floored with how HUGE it was. And mind you, I had spent the months leading up to it watching several full walk-throughs and still it was not enough to prepare me for the size of a Freedom Class. (I think i might have literally had my jaw hit the floor if we did our first trip on Oasis...O.O )
Now, every time we board, I get real close to the glass to see the logo or ship name, just to confirm to myself that this beautiful building is indeed our ship.

It sounds like the CDC actually listened to the comments submitted by the public
While CDC bases its public health determinations on the best available science and not on public opinion, the willingness of the public to accept measures to mitigate the risk of transmitting COVID-19 onboard cruise ships is noteworthy. Accordingly, CDC carefully considered these comments in drafting this framework. It also sounds like the CDC actually did some due diligence and weighed other alternatives.  They also account for some operators (cough cough Carnival) that have yet to submit a response on their plans or protocols.
Another alternative considered was continuing to issue No Sail Orders as occurred between March 14 and September 30, 2020. However, this alternative was not found to be as optimal as the current framework. The benefits of this framework outweigh the costs of not allowing cruise ships to sail because it allows for flexibility where cruise ships have taken the necessary precautions to mitigate risk, while continuing to prohibit passenger operations onboard ships that have failed to implement such precautions. As such, the current framework represents a tailored approach that was determined to be preferable to the status quo No Sail Order. This framework allows for individual cruise lines to progress through phases at variable paces. This enables cruise lines successfully implementing public health measures to return to passenger operations more quickly while others by necessity may move more slowly. The framework not only encourages cruise lines that are more successful at mitigating the spread of COVID-19 but provides a realistic timeline that anticipates COVID-19 continuing to be present and affecting cruise ship travel. It's beginning to look like the Healthy Sail Panel put together between RCG and NCLH was the right thing to do and money well spent.

In my opinion, Royal seems to have planned for this day and start this process as soon as TODAY!!!!!   From all the stuff we have been reading on how they established protocols for COVID19 bring it on!!!!
And to be honest, I really don't care what the whole document says, just give them everything they want and sound the "horn" in the channel.
