baltodave Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 I've seen massages on FB that Grease is ending its run on Harmony OTS the end of August. I have not gotten any confirmation from RC but one of the commentors on FB has a son in the cast and he confirmed it. Does anyone know what it will be replaced with? (don't say "Columbus...The Musical" because it's already performed on that ship) TIA! Quote
Pooch Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Thank God. Such an awful musical. The original musical was bad enough but this is based on the even more awful movie. Double the “just bad”!! Doug_Texas, RCIfan1912, Ampurp85 and 4 others 2 2 2 1 Quote

JimnKathy Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 All of the other Entertainment options are showing up in the cruise planner for our 8-night Sept 13 sailing on Harmony with the exception of Grease. Given what I've seen/read on FB, I'd say that it's probably going away. The good news is that we're still sailing on Harmony AND it includes Perfect Day at Coco Cay! Thumper44 1 Quote

Zenra Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Curious what they will replace it with if it is going away. I'll be on Harmony in November over Thanksgiving. While Grease isn't exactly my personal favorite I was excited to see the production since the only other Oasis class I've been on is Wonder and they don't have a broadway production at all. TXcruiser33 Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Saw this show a couple of years ago when we sailed on Harmony. Really enjoyed it! I love the music and I thought RC's entertainers were very talented!! WIll be on Harmony again in November so I'll be curious what they replace it with, if anything?? Our 1st sailing on Oasis next month. I've made reservations to see the infamous Cats......but I'll plan to get an aisle seat so we can sneak out early if it's as bad as people say!! I actually saw the original Broadway run 40 years ago, with Betty Buckley in the starring role. I don't remember the "plot" (except that it was weird?!) but the music was amazing. I'll go for the music and if the performers don't do it justice then I'll move on and scratch it off my bucket list!! Once is usually enough for me with these Broadway shows, so honestly I'm hoping RC will start to switch them out some. I know it's complicated to move them from ship to ship, but leaving a show for YEARS on one ship doesn't make sense to me..... Thumper44 1 Quote

Yet still...if Grease goes, Cats on Oasis otS should go. Jolly Ogre 1 Quote

It’s based on the Book of Practical Cats by TS Elliot & is a series of vignettes with a very loose theme running through them. You can’t look at it as a traditional musical. Ampurp85 Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 I loathe Grease. However, I don't understand the correlation of since Grease is being removed, so should Cats. I sat through a matinee of Cats on Oasis and it was a one and done. But plenty of people enjoyed it, the same way plenty of people do/don't enjoy Grease. It seems like if this production is being removed, its because Royal can no longer see value in paying the high fee to put on such a production. Quote
Pooch Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 58 minutes ago, Gilley said: I love grease the movie. And all the songs are on my playlist….. Sandy was not the female lead in the original musical. Rizzo was. But Stockard Channing (who could act circles around ONJ) was not enough of a box office draw so they rewrote the show to give ONJ the bigger part and more songs. But my issue with the show is not its performance. It’s the horrible message it sends. Being pretty and smart and funny is not enough girls, gotta tart yourself up to get your man! You gotta “cream for greased lightening” and justify your promiscuity because “there are worse things I could do”. But it’s all good in the end cuz I gotta stop at the drug store. I got my period!! ALL of this is in the musical. How does it become a staple of community theater & high school music departments?!!! Ampurp85, steverk, Eyeonhevn and 2 others 4 1 Quote
WAYNO Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 Grease is one show I have never seen aboard any ship. I hope I'm someday able to see it before it's gone. On the other hand, I seldom think the shipboard renditions of most shows do the original shows any justice. Maybe I should just remember Grease as it was meant to be. Quote

We have Harmony booked this December and also next December. melmar02 Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 We're on Harmony again in October, so I am curious about this as well. It looks like the last run of Grease according to the app is Aug 30 sailing. It is not listed on any night of the Sept 7 sailing. Quote

And I think you're right about NCL having Jersey Boys. I haven't looked it up in a while but I believe they also have Beetlejuice, Million Dollar Quartet, and maybe Rock of Ages -- all of which would be on my list to put on an RC ship but that won't likely happen while they're on NCL WAAAYTOOO and Pooch 2 Quote
