CazV reacted to Andrew72681 in Thoughts on renaming ships after extensive dry docks?
I’ve always thought that Carnival’s practice of renaming ships after they go through revitalization was stupid. I think I may be coming around on that though after looking at the Shipmate app. The Amped Navigator for example is being held back by the reviews of Navigator pre-amping. If the ship had changed names it certainly wouldn’t be a 3 star review.

A driver explained to me they don't get paid for deviations from the route since it appears they are trying to pad the trip to have it cost more.  One time a driver told me to edit the destination and waited until I did so.
Now I start with "terminal g port..." and it finds it quickly in the app.  The GPS tells the driver exactly what to do unlike a recent report I read where the driver went into the cargo port truck lane by mistake.

In my experience that doesn't work well in certain situations such as a driver who has never visited the port before or with a language barrier which is very common in South Florida (since I don't speak Spanish).
I prefer to specify the exact terminal or else you could be dropped off at the Port administration building by a driver following their GPS precisely to the drop off location you specified.  That happened to me at Newark when I inadvertently tapped the first "Newark Airport..." option that appeared and we drove to the "Newark Airport Best Coffee Shop" 4 miles from the terminal.
For those that don't know the area or roads around the port it's always best to be precise.

Just FYI, for Uber/Lyft you don't need to know Terminal. Just put "PortMiami" or even pick a random terminal assignment. Once you get there, signs will clearly indicate which terminal you are at and you can tell your driver to go to whichever terminal.

My excursions on my Navigator sailing at the end of April are down in price from when I purchased in the last sale a few weeks ago. It's only a few pounds, but that few pounds is better in my pocket.

The ferry you're thinking of is the Blue Line that goes from the Dockyard (where you're... um... docked) to Hamilton.
The $7 pp shuttle that I mentioned is separate from the public transportation options that @coneyraven describes here. Advantage of the shuttle is that it will take you all the way down the road to the beach entrance, whereas the bus will stop at the top of a rather steep and long hill that you'll have to go down (there are walkways) and then back up later. Both are perfectly viable, but if you have anyone in your party who is mobility limited or would otherwise have difficulty with the walk / climb, best to take the shuttle.

I will second the recommendation to get the $7 taxi to Horseshoe Bay. I walked from there to Warwick Long Bay and back again, stopping several times along the way to just enjoy the shoreline and all the lovely little coves. Simply stunning! I was there for two and a half days on my cruise last summer. As well as the beach walk, I also went over to Hamilton on the Ferry late afternoon early evening. On day 2 I took the ferry to St George's and had a wander around the town, walked up by the Unfinished Church and went to Tobacco Bay. On day 3 I stayed in the Dockyard area.

It's actually very easy to just go out out into the ship and find a quiet nook to relax in at any of the public venues. Navigator has lots of spaces for curling up with a book or smartphone/tablet, or sitting and watching the ocean go by. Off the top of my head I would say the Solarium and its cantilevered whirlpools, the Viking Crown Lounge with its great views, the Windjammer, the Schooner Bar (one of my favorite places to just hang out and people watch on a quiet morning), or little spaces outside the shops and dining venues in the Royal Promenade where chairs and tables are set up.
Definitely wander the ship if you wake up early one day. The Promenade especially is super quiet and empty, even as guests are up in the gym or the Windjammer for early breakfast, and it's a great time to just stop and admire the design and all the little details they put into the space.

@kevpeirce --- When are you going?  I know the Orange Line Ferry to St. George had just been shut down for the season when were there in late October .....
Not sure when they fire that route up, so, definitely, double check before you go...
What we ended up doing was taking the ferry to Hamilton, walking to the main bus terminal (a couple of blocks), then taking the #1 bus to St. George .... what was nice about that was that on the return trip on the #1, we were able to stop at the Swizzle Inn...... love that place..
We've been to Bermuda 3 times .... getting around that island takes longer than people realize, but, geographically speaking, it's relatively simple.

You can see the beach/snorkel park along the right side of the photo .... this is the one that's an easy walk from the ship.

"Bermuda" and "Cheap" aren't really synonymous. Since it sounds like you have an overnight, you could do the Crystal Caves and/or Fantasy Caves; those are $24 per adult and  one of the less-expensive things my wife and I did there last October. Definitely a "one and done" item, but interesting nevertheless. From the caves you could take the #1 or #3 bus to St. George's, then take the Orange Line ferry back to the dockyard. (see the last paragraph for more on this)
You could also go to Horseshoe Bay beach for a good chunk of the day, although instead of the transit pass you'd want to just use the small shuttles / minibuses located just off the pier, right by the booth where you buy the transit passes. Costs $7 per person each way, and once at the beach you're under no obligation to rent a lounger, chair, or umbrella; you can bring towels (just don't lose them!) and then go in the ocean for no extra cost. Take the shuttle back to the ship when you get hungry and eat on board, since anything you buy food-wise will definitely not be cheap, at least at Horseshoe Bay's only on-site restaurant.
If it's available (wasn't yet posted as of yesterday), you can use the transit pass to take the Orange Line ferry to St. George's; it's only available weekdays, but that shouldn't be an issue on the 5-night Bermuda as long as it's back in service for the summer months. In St. George's you can wander around and window shop, as well as walk the half-mile to Tobacco Bay Beach and just hang out there a while for nothing. Once again, when done you can take the next ferry back to the dockyard and eat on board to save money. This option really is only viable when the Orange Line ferry is available, as otherwise you have to take the other ferry (Blue Line) to Hamilton, and then deal with a 1-hour bus ride to St. George's.

Firstly, don't be scared! Secondly, thanks for bumping this post up as I just enjoyed reading the comments and blog posts linked to above.
I'm going on my third solo cruise in a few weeks, and it will be my first with Royal Caribbean. I've been getting to know folk via the Cruise Critic Roll Call and Facebook Group for my sailing and have several meet-ups arranged as well as excursions with others in the FB group. I'm actually starting to watch out that I leave myself with some solo me time lol
I've gone on land vacations solo before I discovered cruising, and honestly find cruising is much easier for meeting people and being sociable. I love that I can have the best of both worlds on a cruise by having time to myself and being sociable when I want to be.  Don't let fear hold you back and I hope you have a great time!

Solo travel is defn pricey. Royal pretty much charges 200% so all your saving is the port fees and taxes for the 2nd person by going alone.  As for rooms...some ships do have the studio rooms, but they are few and sell out pretty quickly.  My experience has been there is little to no savings from a "regular" room, BUT you get double CA points in  an inside or higher room so that maybe something to consider.
As for the cruise itself, it does have things listed for solo traveler get-togethers....but my experience with those is that its the same as the LGBTQ meeting type things.....they say its solo get together at the Viking Crown Lounge at 10:30pm.....and when you go there is no one there or there are people there just hanging out and drinking and they defn aren't single.....well there maybe single ppl there but they aren't there cause its the place to meet, they are just there cause they happen to be drinking at that bar at that time.

I wouldn't worry in town or on excursions on your own either as long as you are smart and staying in the tourist areas. And quite often you may meet up or end up out there with people from your ship that you have met or talked with or made plans with.

Of course you can sign up on CC too for Roll Call for your cruise which can help. I did that for my last cruise and we all met up for a slot pull. Was a lot of fun and neat to put some faces to names you have chatted with prior to the cruise.

I would say travel alone and take a chance and enjoy it! Perhaps the shorter cruises might be better based on the normal demographics and atmosphere of the ships, but to each their own!

I cruise solo often as my family and friends don't have my flexibility to travel like I do.
I really enjoy solo cruising and it makes cruises with family or friends even more special and different.  I used to travel for business a lot and became used to dining alone on business trips.  Due to that it doesn't concern me to eat in the MDR alone.   If you have a flexible calendar there are deal opportunities.  I can't count the number of times I've asked someone to cruise but they can only go a certain week and rate are double that week.  Being by myself I can sail in an interior cabin and have lots of room.  That alone saves a lot of money, like getting free excursions, internet and drinks.
Studio cabins tend to run ~75% of the cost of paying for double occupancy.  Sometimes they restrict promos and inventory to solo cruisers despite requiring you to pay for two.  In some cases I add someone I've cruised with before to a booking to get a cabin type or promo rate.  Truth is if that person could go at the last minute they would be welcome to join me but more often than not they are a no show at check in.  In those cases the taxes and port fees end up refunded automatically shortly into or after a cruise.   I don't pre-pay gratuity in the cases where a 2nd person is added who might not sail.
Studio cabins do not get double C&A points.  Booking a non-studio cabin including 'Guarantee' cabins do get double C&A points.  Not many ships have studio cabins and they go quickly.  Sometimes they are only slightly cheaper than a regular cabin.  Studio cabins are sometimes pretty small and if the price difference is small I'll go into a regular cabin and take advantage of the double C&A points.  I love suites but just can't justify them when solo.
There is something really nice about solo cruising.  Do what you want, when you want.  There are often single seats in the theater available as people space themselves out when they sit leaving one seat between them and the next couple.  Sometimes there are single loungers by the pool available for the same reason.  MDR service tends to be very fast when solo.
If you are the type of person who is comfortable being by yourself solo cruising is great.  Tons of happy people around and lots of public places but easy to slip away and have some alone time when you feel like it.

I flew carry on only so I wasn't able to bring my own shampoo, etc, but stayed in a hotel the night before, so I took the little bottles of nice shampoo/conditioner and soaps when I left and used those on the cruise (granted, only a 4 night cruise, it lasted just fine).

I have a lot of hair, and I don't mind the in-room hairdryers.  I don't want to lug my own, so I just deal with theirs.  They are no worse than any hotel hairdryer.
