That is usually something that goes on throughout the fleet. I was never into it personally but I sure like to watch it!

At a new port which I've never been to we get off because well, we've never been there before. At someplace where I've been half a dozen times (Nassau) we stay onboard.

Of course this includes those who became members, made one or maybe two posts to whine or complain about something and then were never heard from again.

Don't know. But I do know there are people who take a cruise as a "marriage saver".

In an unplanned breakfast and a show yesterday morning in Vancouver guests were treated to a collision between 2 Holland America ships. Apparently the Oosterdam struck the Nieuw Amsterdam during movements near Canada Place. Damage was described as minor and there were no injuries. The planned operations of both ships should not be affected.

My wife has told me many, many times that anyplace where she has to cook, clean, make beds or do laundry is not a vacation. That's what she wants to escape from. Silly female.

"I won't be sailing with them again". And we're all broken hearted about that.

On our day 1, while still in Canadian waters, we were on the veranda when I heard some sort of strange noises on shore. I looked out to see what it was, saw nothing, then looked down to see it was 2 whales having a chat while tagging alongside. That's how ours started.

Your first cruise is an Alaska sailing! Way to kick off your cruising adventures. You'll love it.

Nice post. I gotta agree with Pima, the 5 day Anthem cruise to Bermuda from Bayonne is a great "starter cruise".

You might actually be overdressed. Wait till you see what some people are wearing to "formal" night.

A couple hundred bucks is all you need, just in case. You'll find you didn't need it all anyway when you get back.

We took them at home pre-cruise as part of online check-in. They made our drivers license photos look like Rembrandts.

Since you had prior Anthem cruises without incident it seems this one was an exception to the norm. Sorry for your bummer of a ride. We loved the Anthem and plan to love her again.
