new to RC
We have cruised before with Disney and Princess but never with RC and I know the disembarkation procedures vary from line to line. Our family is doing a Northern European cruise out of Southampton in late August/early September and will disembark on Sunday. Part of the group will be in London until Wednesday, but the remainder will leave Monday morning. Since Buckingham Palace is only open for a month and a half each year, and we will be there during that time, the entire group would like to take that tour. We need to purchase timed tickets in advance. We will be taking a private shuttle from the port to our hotel in London. What time would it be reasonable to expect that we will arrive in London? Thank you in advance for your help and advice. I have found this site to be incredibly helpful
JamesGurner
It all depends what time you leave the port resulting in what traffic will be like. London is about 80 miles away from Southampton so can take anywhere between 1.5 hours + depending on traffic.
Wilmsta
As James says above, it really does depend on traffic and also where about's in London you will be staying. Early Sunday morning the traffic should be fairly light but i would still allow a minimum of 2 hours
Sweety
I stayed in the Royal Garden Hotel next door to Kensington Palace. You are going to love going to Buckingham palace. It's so much to see I went to days.

new to RC
Thank you. I have reserved transport at 9:30-the ship arrives at 5:30 am. We are hoping to be off the ship between 8:30 and 9 (planning to carry our luggage). Is this too optimistic? We do not have any priority status. If you choose to self-disembark, you should be able to get on line to leave the ship at 6:00 or 6:30 AM, and actually disembark around 7:00 AM; instructions will be provided along with your luggage tags two nights before disembarkation. If you do choose to self-disembark, you won't use those luggage tags and you will keep all suitcases in your room with you until you disembark. This is definitely the fastest way off the ship and you can be sure you'll be out to meet your transport well in advance. If you are OK with doing normal disembarkation and picking up your bags in the port terminal after you get off the ship, then you'll want to check those luggage tags to see which disembarkation group you've been assigned, as well as the sheet that came with them which says what time each group is allowed to disembark. If you find that you've been assigned to a group that leaves later than you're comfortable with, you can go to Guest Services the day before disembarkation and request new tags with an earlier departure time. Just be aware that crowds form very quickly the later you disembark, and the total time to get off the ship. Going this route does give you a chance to hit the Windjammer for a quick breakfast before you leave, even if you get off at 7:30 or 8:00.
