RQ13
Hi! My family and I are taking a cruise from Civitavecchia and going back to the same port. I understand that ship arrives at 5 and disembarking starts at 6:45. We will arrange a private transportation to take us to Fiumicino Airport to take a flight to Madrid. The flight is at 10:30, we have access to the fast lane at the airport. Is it to tight? Should I buy the next flight to Madrid (14:30)? Thanks for your help. FionaMG
It takes about an hour from the port to the airport so as long as there are no delays, and given that it's an intra-Schengen flight, it should be OK. Doesn't leave you much wiggle room if there are delays, though. I guess it depends on how big a difference there is in price and how high your risk tolerance is. I would prefer to get off the ship without having to rush and worry about potentially missing the flight but I have absolutely no risk tolerance . PPPJJ-GCVAB
I’m with @FionaMG…risk tolerance: ZILCH! That timing is just too close for comfort. Of course, it could be just fine BUT there are too many possibilities that could delay your perfect timing from ship to airport. IMO, it’s better to be safe than sorry…those 4 hours are worth peace of mind and perhaps a few extra $$$! TessFromFlorida
This past summer we disembarked at 7am and the hired car was already there waiting for us to take us to FCO for an 11:20 flight (boarding 30 min prior I believe). I feel that was just enough time to get through screening. You won't have much wiggle room at all if there is a delay, as the others have said PPPJJ-GCVAB
loki007
We flew out of FCO in September (although international so may have been different), you would have to have zero delays to feel comfortable with a 1030 flight. I personally would consider the later flight and thanks to being europe you can buy a late checkout and stay on the boat until 3:00 (that's what we did and it was fantatstic...wifi drink package all get extended). We had the pool deck to ourselves. PPPJJ-GCVAB
wordell1
Traffic in Italy is notorious for delays. You probably make your flight 90% of the time but there are many issues that could prevent it. If you miss it, what options would you have at that point? I would think you would be able to get to Madrid somehow that day but there may be a cost. teddy
Seems tight to me. We ended in Civitavecchia last October and even on a Sunday, it was a solid hour to get to the airport.
