D money
I booked a cruise for me and my wife in a ocean view state room and I just called Royal to see about an upgrade and I ended up upgrading to a junior suite but not through the royal up program. Will we still get double the points since we upgraded not through the program? Thanks. CrznTxn
Yes, since you upgraded through RCCL and not through the RoyalUp program you will get the double points. We have done the same thing and shied away from the Royal Up program since it is a third party and not RCCL proper and does not give your the double points you are entitled to. F1guynz
I remember the time many years ago when you could just upgrade your cabin or switch cabin numbers the website without having to call someone. The price of progress I guess, you now have to spend more time doing something that used to be simple. Only takes me a few minutes to check my cruise cabin availability and fire off an e-mail to my TA if I want him to switch/upgrade my cabin... which he then does very quickly. Still seems pretty simple to me. Neesa

When there were they used to charge fees on top of Royal's. Always book direct with Royal and have never had any issues using them. I used to book direct with no issue myself but using a TA saves me quite me a bit nowadays. I don't need much in the way of service/help/advice but it's there if I ever do. Part of the issue is that apart from P&O there is really any genuine year-round cruising. Royal is usually here from October - April then gone as are most other cruise lines. I am thinking of trying MEI travel for our next set of cruise bookings in 2026 when they are released. Just need to factor in exchange rate, fact that gratuities are included in the fare etc. to see if the pricing works out similarly. As cruises get closer it would be nice to have the option to upgrade without using Royal Up but I have always found that an existing cruise cannot be adjusted so they have to cancel and rebook forfeiting the deposit. Heymarco
On our last cruise, we were upgraded to a Crown loft suite with Royal up from a balcony cabin and still received double points. WAAAYTOOO

We also received the upgrade notification about a month early if that made a difference.
