Weather issues and changes

Recommended Posts

OK OK.....I know don't borrow trouble I get that. But I never do anything without a plan B.

This trip Mariner Sep 9th is my first ever Sep/hurricane season trip. Always avoided date in past.

Is there ever an option where the ship returns to port from the previous cruise a day early and then departs a day early to avoid weather?

Booked to fly and get in at lunch on Friday Sep 8th. But have checked out my options for switching my tickets for flying Wednesday or Thursday next week if I need to avoid weather and any domino effects to flights. I know I can pull off a 48 hour take off window of flexibility if needed. Just wondering what possible scenarios I would need to prepare for?

Again, just find life better with a plan A, B, and C. LOL.

I have never heard of ship departing a day early but I have heard of them departing hours earlier or later depending on things.

Even if the ship arrives back a day early, I think they still wait to debark on the scheduled day. I can't imagine the nightmare it would be if they left a day early on 24 -48 hours notice....so many angry people 😱

I’ve been aboard a ship that came back into port (Manhattan) a day early to beat a storm. We tied up at the pier and nobody was allowed off. I even used my remote to start my car and warm it up. We enjoyed the ship and the entertainment that evening. But, because we were in port, the shops and casino were closed. Only the casino cage was open so anyone with machine tickets or chips could cash them in.
The next day, we disembarked as usual.

I was also on a cruise that had to divert to Nassau on our way back from the Caribbean due to a medical emergency. We docked late at night and stayed just long enough for them to disembark the patient into a waiting ambulance. However, the course diversion made us a day late coming back to Bayonne. I felt sorry for those that had their flights affected…and those waiting to board as they lost a day. I understand they reimbursed a day’s fare for the next cruisers and gave some OBC.

Never heard of leaving a day early, but when we went on the Oasis we did leave a few hours earlier to beat an oncoming storm. It was a while ago but they sent us either a text or email the day before asking us to get to the port early as they were leaving at the latest 2pm (earlier if everybody was onboard)

I have heard of Liberty avoiding Galveston because of a hurricane.  I think it was Ike in 2008, but I'm passing this on second hand.

Regardless, they went Florida instead and allowed people to either Disembark there or arrive a few days late in Galveston.

I heard this when I took the all access tour on Liberty, so I'm confident it is accurate even though I don't have all of the details.

This would be very rare. It would take something like a significant hurricane closing the port.
