Walker77
Any tips for leaving Port of Galveston? This will be our 4th cruise with RC. All the other times have sailed out of Florida. When we sailed from Cape Canaveral, we would fly into Orlando the day before. We would rent a car, stay around the airport and head to the coast the next morning. What would you guys recommend for the Port of Galveston? And which airport should we look to fly into?

Cactus527
Definitely fly into Hobby - our trip from there to Galveston port took 45 min one way. The new terminal is beautiful, spacious, and easy to navigate. Galveston Island lodgings are going to be much more expensive than Houston-area places, but it's so pretty there. Having just done this a few days ago, I know they didn't start letting people on the ship until 10:45 (Suite first, then The Key, then C&A members Pinnacle to Gold, then general 11:00 boarding times by section sitting in in the waiting area). Enjoy!
Walker77
I really appreciate everyone's help. I just priced a one day rental from Enterprise and they want $250 for an economy car! I guess we will have to find another solution
Corinna
We sailed out of Galveston last September and used Galveston Express to get from IAH to the island (We flew in from Australia so had to fly into that airport). They were great and I would use them again. rjweber3
AMHall827
Galveston is my home port (live up in Dallas), so we mainly drive in, so I can't necessarily speak to the best airport. Galveston really isn't that far from Houston though, only about 40 miles from Hobby Airport (HOU) to Royal Caribbean's terminal on Galveston. Still recommend you follow the normal advice Matt gives and fly in the day before to get yourself to the island, but a Lyft XL to get you from HOU to Galveston would only probably run you about $90-110 depending on your arrival time, so less than half of what you were quoted for that 1-day Enterprise rental. When we sail out of Galveston, we usually do our overnight stay at either the SpringHill Suites Galveston Island or the La Quinta that's right next door. Both are good accomodations that usually run about $120/night. PLENTY of good food options on the island both for dinner and for breakfast. Yo2slick
We fly into Hobby and Uber to the port. Uber is around 50-60 dollars for the trip. We usually stay in Webster as its nice, has plenty of options for lodging and food. rjweber3
teddy
We cruised out of Galveston just shy of a year ago and used Galveston Express for transportation. We were very pleased with them and will use them again if we take another cruise from Galveston. The whole shuttle process was simple. We flew into IAH and flew back home from HOU.
