JV1
First time on Grandeur OTS. Boarding is briefly delayed (as well as the room-ready time) because of a GI outbreak. …is this a common thing?
steverk
Not common at all, but no unheard of. Norovirus has been a thing on land and sea for some time now.
twangster
Much more common on land. CDC Noro site: https://www.cdc.gov/norovirus/about/index.html Per the CDC around 1% of all US noro outbreaks are from cruise ships. Healthcare facilities lead by a long shot, restaurants and schools come next. Cruise ships are way down the list and ships must report outbreaks unlike most places on land like restaurants, schools and churches. Cruise ships outbreaks are so low they are lumped in as part of the "Other" category. The things about noro is that it never makes its into the news unless a cruise ship is involved. CruiseGus
The part that surprised me was allowing uncomfortable passenger to reschedule their cruise, seem pretty generous. Baked Alaska and FloatyBoaty
twangster
With a national noro outbreak including Florida it's inevitable some guests will board cruise ships and bring the virus on board. https://www.wfla.com/news/florida/oysters-sold-at-publix-other-stores-in-florida-linked-to-nationwide-norovirus-outbreak/ It's a highly transmissions virus. Wash those hands. But sadly should it happen the headlines will be "another virus outbreak on a floating petri dish" in certain parts of the media. Pretty easy to find a URL on the internet. Did it make the prime time news cycle? It would have if "cruise ship" was involved.
