Did you live blog your trip? I would love to read more and you are super helpful with tips!

LOL no.  I do have a pretty damn good memory and try to be specific (a result of my years in law).

So if you have any questions, get your answers from me now! LOL  I usually do not post after 1pm because our family rule is no screen time after 1.

In April on Anthem the only thing we did not like was the Mac and cheese. It was utterly tasteless. I don't even know how to explain it. It looked normal, but had no flavor at all. My brother thought maybe he had come down with Covid, but then I confirmed it was tasteless. It did not ruin the meal. We just didn't eat any more of that. Everything else was good to great.

RCG does a pretty horrible job with mac and cheese in general. The only time I found it decently edible was on Mariner at Chops. I almost didn't try it, but I saw another table had something orange and couldn't believe it. RCG mac and cheese is normally white or close to yellow. The flavor and consistency seem to always be off; I find it odd that they manage to mess up something that is so simple.

Our experience last week was similar.  The macaroni and cheese needed a little more seasoning or "something", but the filet mignon was super, as were the tater-tots and dessert (apple pie).

I was underwhelmed by Chops. The steak was well cooked but the sauce was bad. The “au poivre” tasted of flour (this is not a roux thickened sauce), I could barely taste the brandy, and the peppercorn was sparse. I had the same sauce in the main dining room… not worth a $50 up charge.

I’ve had Chops for lunch on multiple occasions, it is 1/2 the price of dinner  with a slightly limited menu.  We had dinner at Chops on Fathers Day, had it been a sea day we would have done lunch, my family of 6 cost a lot! The service was impeccable.  The shrimp cocktail is so much better than those little wet shrimp served in the MDR.  My family is mostly about the filet, it did not disappoint.  I felt the mashed potatoes were off, reminded me of the cheap instant potatoes I had when I was growing up. This is not the norm  all their sides are good.  The Key lime pie is my go to dessert.

That is why the sauce is NOT advertised as "au poivre."  A classic au poivre uses cracked black peppercorn or a mix with black peppercorn.  Green peppercorn is much, much milder than black.

For a green peppercorn sauce, it was nice.  Not too aggressively seasoned.  Steak sauces are not supposed to mask the true flavor of the beef unless you are eating beef from Sizzlers or some other chain restaurant that uses lesser grade beef.

When you say RCG (Royal Caribbean Group which includes Celebrity& Silversea) do you mean all of the group or do you just mean Royal Caribbean International? We’ve found anything involving cheese to be a bit bland on Royal but never lacking flavor on Celebrity. Maybe they just crank up the sharpness of the cheese for us old folks on Celebrity so our old buds can taste it, lol.

Went on the Indy in April and May.. both times I ate at Chops and Gioviannis. I personally found the filet at Gio's to be better than Chops. Chops was still good though. I just think I preferred Gio's and Izumi's more.

Ah....speaking of cheese....one thing I did not point out about my recent experience at Chops....

Our second Chops experience was for lunch only 2 days after having had dinner there.  My boys and I ordered the burger.  The burger came with yellow cheese.  I have never seen a yellow gruyere cheese before and when I bit into the burger, I knew right away that is was not gruyere.  The burger was great, but ewww...yellow cheese.

Funny thing about this is that my wife ordered french onion soup from the MDR 3 times.  On formal night, I swear it was gruyere cheese; whereas, the other two nights it was plain swiss.

I have sailed Azamara and Royal Caribbean, which is why I often use RCG instead of RCI and the cheese was off with them as well. Haven't done Celebrity yet.

I love cheese so I thought this whole thing was interesting because I found the cheesy sides at Chops not so cheesy but have never experience the orange. Yikes. Sounds like the blue box. Sorry, i just really enjoy cheese, lol.

Well, some decent cheddar is orange and process cheese has given that decent orange-ish cheddar a bad rep. I don't know what cheese exist in the blue box, but it should be burned. That powder stuff is bleh!

We are going on Harmony in August, and we will be eating at chops and Izumi.

Ooooh, please let us know how those are on Harmony.  I will be on that ship Nov 12th.  I must try Chops at least once despite more unfavorable reviews.  Had the filet on Freedom in the MDR and it was surprisingly good, so good my girlfriend and I ordered it again on our 3rd night.  I love a good Ribeye, so I'm hoping that will be even better.  As for Izumi, I know many people love it, but I'm just not sold on it yet.  We have our eyes on Chops, 150 Central Park, Wonderland and Jaime's.

I think someone mentioned the burger at Chops in an earlier comment.  So that brings me to my question...

Burger at Chops lunch vs. Burger at Jaime's?  Which do you prefer?  Thoughts anyone?

I had the burger at Chops and Jamie's.  They are both very good.  The beef is pretty much the same and very thick, juicy, and tasty.  The toppings are what will sway you one way or another.  I like burgers with traditional toppings (lettuce, cheese, onion, tomato).  My kids and spouse loved the Jamie's burger.

We just got off Harmony and did all the specialty restaurants at least once. We had Chops scheduled for lunch on our last sea day, but were generally underwhelmed and opted to do Johnny Rockets for lunch instead. I loved Izumi, both the Hibachi and the sushi side. Wonderland was a fun experience and the food was good, just different compared to what I normally eat. Jamie’s was delicious and I got the burger. I am normally not the biggest Mexican inspired food fan and my wife is, but I actually liked Sabor more than her. She was very disappointed with the guac, thinking it was flavorless, but I don’t like guac so that didn’t impact me. I did love the Barbacoa from Sabor and got it both times. My favorite and it was a surprise to me because I was almost expecting to not really like it was 150 Central Park. The bread, the lobster thermidor, the fried cheesecake. It was all so good! All the wait staff at the restaurants treated you as if you were the most important person and you could tell they genuinely wanted to make sure you left happy. Enjoy! I don’t think you can go wrong with whatever you pick.
