We recently went on the Maho Beach Plane Spotting excursion and it was a lot of fun. I thought I would post a review along with some videos that I didn’t upload on my live blog. We were there on December 23rd so SXM was busy. There were at least 30 take offs and landings during our 2+ hours at Maho Beach. This.was a highlight for our 16 year old son who has been watching videos of Maho Beach jet blasts for years.
The excursion was reasonably priced at around $50pp. Upon arrival we rented 3 beach loungers for $10pp  The amenities are basic but if this is on your bucket list, it didn’t disappoint.

It's funny - when my mom and I were debating our next cruise, St.  Maarten was a stop at one of the itineraries we were looking at and the Next Cruise agent just kept talking about how you can watch the planes take off and land.

And I just politely nodded like "okay lady, I've been to an airport before."

I had no idea until I saw an unrelated video that they passed THIS crazy close. There is certainly a thrill to it though I think the noise would drive me away fairly quickly, it does seem like a cool thing experience at least once.

We were there last week and it was a great time! We found a cab in the downtown that gave us an island tour for $30 per person and they stopped at Maho. It was AWESOME! Completely lived up to the hype. We were sad we didn’t get to see a plane take off but the landing was very cool. 775B6B16-F590-4E01-934B-A33B68227C9F.jpeg.6f38dd7389351b2a6523d7acd8883ef4.jpeg

It's so iconic that even the Microsoft Flight Simulator has a landing there.

I linked this particular YouTube because he's also one of the social media influencers that takes over Royal's social media sometimes. He has another channel where he has some cruise vlogs as well.

Love this….thanks for sharing.  Pretty sure SMX is on my son’s flight simulator game too….it’s been a while since he has logged in but our visit has inspired him to check it out.

Does anyone have a tour company that they recommend using? RC is all sold out for the ship tours.

Thanks!

Sam

We went to Maho Beach over Christmas 2023 and the experience fell way short of expectations based on our visit the year before. The excursion was oversold, beach overcrowded and badly eroded resulting in 2 tiers with a sharp drop and the tour operator had numerous short comings. Our genie had the shore excursion manager contact me who promised to speak to the tour operator to address the deficiencies and offered a partial refund.

How far of a drive is this from the port? Debating on if we will have time to check this out after our 4 hour snorkel excursion.

It’s about 45 minutes each way; possibly longer depending on traffic. (Which can be bad)
