  1. Armed guards or is he holding one of those Walkie Talkies that shoots bullets?
  2. Ahem Carnival Mardi Gras - Aug. 21 - 28, 2021, 7 Nights - Western Caribbean By twangster, August 17, 2021 in Trip Reports - Post your cruise photos and stories! https://www.cruisehabit.com/boards/topic/939-carnival-mardi-gras-aug-21-28-2021-7-nights-western-caribbean/
  3. That's one of two reasons why we booked it on our last cruise. The other was to go up to the Windmill Bar for lunch, which was stunning. The ferry back to St Thomas left precisely at 2:30 pm. Good thing we planned to get back to the port an hour before, as our taxi driver had trouble starting his vehicle. After a couple of minutes cranking the motor, it finally started. Plan B would have been to walk back if we couldn't get another ride.
  4. Book it! Here's why: - You get a fantastic seaside journey along the Amalfi Coast to Capri and Positano, plus lunch. - Positano is beautiful. We drove to there (bought a Bimmer in Munich and shipped it home) and stayed overnight. Prepare for a few hundred stair-steps. - Things in Italy don't always go according to schedule, especially in August with many Italians taking the month off. The excursion will buy you peace-of-mind. - Save room for Napoli pizza when enjoying the typical liqueurs and decadent pastries. Watch some of the street food vendors on youtube. We're planning on this cruise next year or one similar if we do the TA on ODY. Ciao

  6. For a few dollars more, I suggest booking the RC tour to Trunk Bay over the St John on your own. We did a B2B last Jan/Feb on Symphony. Both stops in St. Thomas we did the STJ on your own. First time hit some bars and shops in Cruz Bay. Second time took a taxi up to the Windmill Bar. Returning, our taxi driver's car did not immediately start. We had an hour to spare, so we weren't panicking. He eventually got it running. The ferry back to St Thomas departs exactly at the time they ask you to be back.
  7. Follow up q, did the billiards table ever get crowded? More so in the evenings What was the policy in regards to sharing the table? No policy, just common courtesy
  8. I've seen or played these games at Playmakers for free: jumbo-sized Jenga & Connect Four, table shuffleboard and a pool table. Jenga is annoying, because when the blocks tumble, it makes a hell of a noise. Sitting next to the pool table is also not recommended. Pitchers of beer were still available on our last Symphony cruise in Feb. Ms. Seafarer and I split one as we watched Top Gun Maverick on the Aqua Theater screens one evening.
  9. Last year, on Symphony, they had the games on the two big screens at the Aqua Theater in addition to Playmakers. We're back on it next week and hoping it will be shown again there. Just a few feet away to grab those pitchers of beer and wings. Personally pulling for the 49ers and Bengals. All Day!
  10. And you can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!
  11. The RC app is one place to look (under dining). Another place is up top under CruiseCompass. Look for last month's sailing. Last year, we spent a couple of hours walking around familiarizing ourselves with the ship and enjoyed lunch at the Solarium Bistro. Your family is gonna love this ship.
  12. Have a great trip. Please say Hi to Alex and his staff at Playmakers. I bought them a Nerf football last October and Alex and I played catch. He's keeping the football behind the bar. Hope it's still there and you can go long in the Promenade.
  13. We sailed on Symphony last year and booked it again. This will be our first leg of a B2B. Soon!
  14. Where in America, besides prisons, are there large 20’ walls with armed guards stationed at the entry points armed with side arms and assault rifles?
  15. Yet RC has, as recently as last year, suspended visits to Labadee due to unrest. https://cruiseradio.net/royal-caribbean-replacing-labadee-unrest-haiti/ Having been there myself, not sure how I was protected by the isolated beaches of Labadee.
  16. Quite creative. So how could one sail to St. Thomas, get off the ship and stay on St. John for a week or so, and sail back to the US mainland?
  17. I planned to accompany my Mom on a cruise to Aruba last May. We booked it last winter and purchased a policy from IMG. Simultaneously, my Wife booked a Delta Skymiles Reward trip to visit her relatives in Italy for four weeks in May & June. She had the foresight to purchase a $1,200 policy from Allianz. Unfortunately, my Mom entered hospice a few days before our departure. My Wife cut her trip short and booked a $1,648 flight home with a different airline (United), due to Delta being sold out on many flights back to the US from Rome. After my Mom passed away in June, I filed a claim with IMG. It took nearly 5 months to get the cruise refund, with several back and forth emails. My Wife filed a claim with Allianz for her return flight and was reimbursed $1,200 within two weeks. It only took a few clicks on their websites to file the claim. And fortunately, Delta did credit back the mileage for the unused portion of the return flight. That said, our recent four cruise bookings our insured with Allianz.
  18. I plugged in a search from Haifa to Miami on this site with no results. https://www.cruisetimetables.com/cruisesearch.html?id=cse&sailmonth=Any&destination=Any&departureport=Haifa, Israel&arrivalport=Miami, Florida&openjawcruise=&portofcall=&cruiseship=&duration=Any&chartercruise= Might want to consider alternatives, such as piecing a couple (or more) sailings on different ships, etc. Consulting with a travel agent could be worthwhile for you.
  19. Independence (3) Symphony (1) Odyssey (2) Navigator (2)
  20. We did this itinerary last October and did not plan any excursions. Tickets were handed out at the Bamboo Club beginning at 10am. Walked by BC around 8:30am and a few people had lined up, sitting in chairs. A half hour later, I joined the line that stretched to the front of the Cafe Promenade (about 120 or so people). Once they started boarding the tenders, we had about a two hour wait, as we listened for our ticket number to be called. Passengers with excursions booked through RC got priority boarding. Basically it's a camp out for 90 minutes for ticket distribution and an early departure vs waiting on the ship for xx hours for your departure ticket number to be called. Also, did not get off the ship in Mazatlan and were surprised to see a credit on our account of around $70, refunding us for the port fees in Maz.
