Crafter Beer with Premium Package

Good day everyone,

I am going on my first cruise next Friday on the Allure of the Seas, and while I am extremely excited for it am wondering about the craft beer selection. I am traveling with my girlfriend and another couple and both the other guy and myself are both big craft beer fans, so would like to enjoy an IPA or two while we sail.

I was looking in some forums and on the website trying to find better info but am having some trouble. Are there any craft beers that come with the Premium Package? I saw one of the restaurants, Michael's Genuine Pub, has some craft beer, but it seems this is a specialty restaurant where you have to pay for these beers as well.

Hoping someone can shed some insight on this.

Any other great travel tips in general or specific to Allure of the Seas are much appreciated!

Thanks

Devin

I can't speak to Michael's Genuine specifically, but I've had beers such as Goose Island IPA, Red Hook IPA, Dogfish Head 90 Minute, and La Fin Du Monde as part of the pub all be included in the drink package. I'll be interested in hearing your results, but I'd be surprised if they weren't included in some way, even if there is some sort of $1-2 surcharge.

Not many craft beers on Allure.  The Pub is your best bet for the greatest variety of beers.

Wait, I was thinking Anthem and not Allure.

Michael's Genuine isn't on Allure, right? If not, then yeah the pub is going to be his best bet. I recall when Michael was on Allure recently, the IPA options were Goose Island and Red Hook (so, super standard IPA or nothing but pine trees)

Well, I guess Goose IPA and Red Hook it is... definitely not drinking any Red Hook, but I can live with a Goose every now and then.

Thanks for the info guys, and you're right they don't have Michael's Genuine on Allure, my mistake.

As a fellow craft beer person, good pick on the Premium Package. I got really bored with the beer selection and found myself drinking a lot of Stella (they have this on draft at many bars) or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, and occasionally venturing in to a margarita or Crown and Ginger or Belvedere and Red Bull (for those late nights in the casino).

Ask about the beer selection when you board in the Pub, though. I was really surprised to find the Dogfish Head 90 minute selection when I boarded, so maybe there will be a surprise addition other than what I mentioned!

Only beer I know that you cant get with the package is the Foster's Oil Can....

Other than that, any beer was included with the pp for any cruise I have been on.

Best and only place for variety really is at whatever pub they have on board.

I am sure there must be a menu pic somewhere online of the beer options for the ship you are sailing!

No oil can?!?! ... oh... no...  :D (I knew this... still doesn't bother me even slightly)

I don't see one from Allure on the site, but they're all fairly similar...

All of that said, ask about their selection anyway. Just in case they happen to have something good and unlisted on board! Worked for me on Indy.

There's also that Belgian beer that runs $22 or so for a 750ml bottle that isn't on the plan...the name is on the tip of my tongue but I just can't remember it right now.

A couple of years ago on Oasis they had Sam Adams Double Bock that was surprisingly good.

Another tip is to ask what they have at each bar - sometimes you'll find a beer (or liquor in my case; I'm a rum drinker) that isn't carried in other locations on the ship.

Chimay! I keep saying I'm going to splurge on that one of these days...

Somehow, Double Bocks and Stouts don't appeal to me much on Caribbean cruises.  :D  La Fin du Monde is a pretty tasty and citrusy Belgian I've seen at just about every (... by every, I mean the 2 Freedom class ships I've been on) Pub I've been to on board... it's 9% though.

Good tip on asking each bar!

I was hoping that it was going to be one of Lindeman's lambics. It is the only beer I drink, and pretty rare to find it served many places. ;-)

THAT'S IT! Thank you! My google-fu failed me when attempting to quickly look it up.

A gentleman gave me a small glass of his when he ordered it a couple of cruises ago. It was tasty!

If you get to St. Thomas at the Havensight dock (not Crown Bay) stop at 'Virgin's Haven' right next to the ship on the dock and try a Mackeson Triple XXX Milk Stout (from Trinidad) ... ice cold, you'll suddenly figure out that stouts can work in the Caribbean!

La Fin du Monde was one of my 'gateway' beers...my best friend introduced it to me, and I haven't looked back. :)

I don't recall seeing those anywhere - but that said, I likely overlooked them.  The only lambic I'd go out of my way for is something Sam Adams outs out every couple of years and it's a Cranberry Lambic.

I'll be at St. Thomas on my honeymoon (Allure B2B!) .. any idea if we'd end up at Havensight?

I taught my fiance everything he knows about beer and he now appreciates a good brew as much as I do  :P

I haven't tried that yet, American fruit beers tend to have the fruit flavoring added after the fact. The Lindeman's lambics are brewed in open vats with the fruit (my favorites are framboise and cassis). They taste nothing like beer, which is why I can drink them. :-)

Sours and Lambics are getting more popular - I'm developing more of an appreciation for those funky beers. :) I'll have to keep an eye out for the Lindeman's ones!

On Freedom, the best I could find was La Fin du Monde, which I love, but wasn't gonna drink only that.  So this year I got the PP and drank almost solely mixed drinks.

I'm a hophead, so was very disappointed last year.  I would've been quite happy had I seen some Dogfish Head 90!

I'd love to start seeing some Lagunitas IPA now that Heineken is a part owner. Founders All Day IPA would be a good one to see on board, too.
