IRMO12HD
I'm hoping to find some success stories from the RCL shareholder "benefit" perspective -- are there any? I"m hoping to find a way to maximize my benefit (besides dividends) from 100 shares of RCL stock. It seems like the Inside Cabins are the best bet? WAAAYTOOO
Sadly, we have not found any way to use our shareholder benefits. They often advertise that you can get OBC for being a shareholder but it rarely works out that the shareholder benefit is the better one and some other offer supersedes it. OBC offers are rarely combinable. IRMO12HD and bobroo
Matt
While there is a shareholder discount, the issue is it's not combinable with other discounts, so you have to choose one or other and in almost every case the shareholder benefit is not significant enough to be worthwhile. bobroo
Waaaytooo is exactly correct. A few years ago it would save you like $100 on a cruise because I think you could combine it with other offers; if memory serves. But those days are long gone. There shareholder benefit is less than other offers and is now uncombinable. I think all of us shareholders here would say investing in RCL has been a good thing and we all recommend it. What I think we would all agree on being super RCL fans is the transparency. While onboard you can see how the ships are sailing full, while online here you can see the FOMO and the consistent "buying of a better experience", and there is seemingly a never ending news releases of new, additional ships. At this point, all a very positive outlook.
WAAAYTOOO
So true. As an investor, you are torn between "the bottom line" and "hey...where are my bennies ?". I guess the bottom line is winning ! Ok with me. The trend is going in the right direction, at least !
b_resh_uh
Made a quick 20% on the price disparity before the new year until now. Realized the gain, but didn't realize there were shareholder benefits I could use on board... May have to move on a more long-term position. Do NOT make your investment decisions based on a flighty RC shareholder benefit. You will be sorely disappointed ! b_resh_uh

Most likely you're not going to come out a winner in that game! WAAAYTOOO

You will be sorely disappointed ! This time a hundred! I own shares and only managed to take advantage of the benefit once or twice. Now on the flip side I've made more back than my initial investment from reinvested dividend shares I've sold.
bob y
Yes, it is true that Royal Caribbean will not provide any cruise credit if you received even the minimal fairly standard OBC credit for signing up for a cruise. They will consider it if you cancel the original OBC which make no sense. I recommend selling the Royal Caribbean stock and buying Carnival stock (CCL) who does honor their stockholders benefit. I might add that the title of this Blog is very misleading in that it implies there is some benefit in owning Royal Caribbean stock.
bob y
Thank you Denise. After complaining about the Stockholder Benefit being denighed, they did approve my OBC request. Maybe it depends on who gets the request first, but they did generously approved it. Thanks.
Walt H.
There is no benefit from ownership of RCCL stock for anyone who receives an OBC. It’s a joke. They treat their shareholders like crap! Sell your RCCL stock and purchase Carnival/ Cunard. They will give you a OBC on top of any other credits you can get!
Irieman
Stockholder benefit.... Well, RCL stock has significantly out preformed both other publically traded cruise stock the last 10 years. Although I sold my shares to help pay my kids college tuition, It went from 30 to 70 for me. Add the dividend and I would say I was very happy with the benefits even though I never used the credit. Gary4Rachel
The shareholder benefit (OBC) was only given to us once in 7 cruises. The price deal we received at booking cancelled any shareholder benefit. We ended up selling all RCI shares since we are retired and used the money for better dividend producing stocks. In my opinion their shareholder benefit is one of the weakest in the US market.

My experience has been that if you are getting a small about of OBC already (e.g. $25 or $50) and you are "entitled to", say, $100 from the Shareholder Benefit, they have recently been giving you enough OBC to bump you up to $100 in total. So your best chances would be if you don't have any OBC from any other promotion. Carnival corp is much more generous with their OBC. Kathy traveler
Bummer, the shareholder benefit has been reduced. 6-13 nights was a benefit of $200, now it is $100. WAAAYTOOO
Galveston Steve
I've received the Shareholder Benefit 55% of the time since I purchased RCL in 2016. I think that is because I often have OBC from my travel agent that exceeds my C&A discount. They have to waive the C&A discount since it doesn't combine with the Travel Agent OBC program. The Shareholder Benefit is combinable with some of the BOGO and other sales, but it is not combinable with the C&A Discount. Since I often don't use the C&A Discount I think that's why it often works for me. Of course the stock dividends and price appreciation far outweigh the Shareholder Benefit. It's just a fun little bonus when they say "yes". I'll let the stock price performance data of the cruise line stocks speak for itself.
