  1. I booked it. A the price we are paying, as long as the ship doesn't sink I'm still ahead over booking a hotel in a nearby city and paying for meals. The kids have the week off school, we can visit New Orleans and then 5 days onboard with stops at Cozumel and Progresso (for Chichen Itza)... a nice way to celebrate the Labor Day weekend.
  2. I feel the same way. We actually had a Johnny Rockets restaurant in my town for a year or so, but it failed due to there being so many other better hamburger options locally. I don't understand the appeal of a burger that is of the same quality of what's sitting under the heat lamps in the Windjammer. It's just a glorified McDonalds. We're sailing on Carnival Triumph in August and will check out Guy's Burger Joint ... just for the sake of comparison, of course. [edited to look like the original post was written by someone who had at least some rudimentary knowledge of the English language]
  3. If you don't mind me asking, what's the issue with Triumph? I don't follow Carnival ships. The reason I ask is because my wife and I are considering a quick 5 day this summer on Triumph since it goes to Progresso, which is as close as you can get to Chichen Itza via cruise ship. Basically, the thought isn't "we're taking a cruise!", it's "we're going to Chichen Itza, we just happen to be going there by ship".
  4. Wow, we did Nachi Cocom last April as well (April 7, '16 to be exact) and thought the service was fabulous. We had Rene as our server. Loved Little French Key as well. In fact, we had such a great time on the cruise we booked the same exact itinerary for April this year.
  5. We'll be on Rhapsody for the April 1st sailing - is that the one you are sailing on? We're staying at Hampton Inn Ybor City Downtown for a couple days before the cruise, and Sheraton Tampa Riverwalk for a day after (the savings on airfare paid for the hotel and spending money for food, etc).
  6. Once we hit retirement age I want to do a South Pacific, then Aussie/Singapore cruise (maybe in the same trip). After that, Azamara in SE Asia. In the unlikely event I actually come back home from there, then maybe a circumnavigation of South America, or a Nordic countries cruise. Basically I want to get old on a ship.
  7. My sister's first cruise was her honeymoon, on Princess in 2004. They spent the entire cruise dodging Hurricane Ivan - IIRC they didn't get to stop at ANY ports. They apparently loved it because they still cruise. :) On our first cruise (Carnival) the Captain swapped two islands due to rain.
  8. We had this problem on Adventure a couple of years ago - so much soot on the aft balcony that it wasn't useable until they cleaned it during the day. Won't be booking those types of rooms again.
  9. Get a new wife? :) I wish I could help you out, but since I live in Michigan the thought of sailing northward is something nightmares are made of.
  10. Last November we ate at Café Puerto Rico at 208 Calle O'Donell, Old San Juan (near fort San Cristobal). It was FAB-U-LOUS! The prices were reasonable (in line with the other restaurants in the area, but much better food quality and upscale ambiance), and one thing that struck me was that the children's menu wasn't Americanized crap like chicken fingers and boxed mac-n-cheese, but smaller portions of the same dishes adults could order. I can't tell you if they offer sangria; I'm a rum guy, so Puerto Rico was a slice of heaven. Right at the pier downtown is "La Casita de Rones" (House of Rums) which has a large selection of rums and rum cocktails to choose from. The food looked really good there as well, but I was there for the rum so I didn't try any.
  11. It's fine, just not very cold. We always ask to have 2 ice buckets filled in the cabin at all times.
  12. You can treat MTD like regular main dining, if you plan on arriving at the same time every night. Tell them you'll be there at, say 6:30 each night, and they'll keep the same table and staff for you. With young kids we prefer the early dining, and if it's full, we select MTD and just make a standing reservation at the early seating time.
  13. Who needs facts when internet rumors and overheard conversations with staff will suffice? FWIW I don't think Anthem would be home-ported in Galveston. It's too new and shiny.
  14. Back in 2011 we were on Enchantment at Labadee and someone had to be airlifted right before the all-aboard time. We were in port with, I believe, Oasis - it was the largest crowd I've ever been in. Here is the chopper coming in to land on the pier.
  15. I'm probably not the one to ask...my idea of a great cruise breakfast is a plate of corned beef hash, smothered in sausage country gravy, and a side of smoked salmon. I'm not kidding. At least through day 4 anyhow.
  16. THANK YOU! My April Rhapsody cruise dropped to $41/day which saved me $24.78 over what I had paid just last weekend. November 2017 Adventure cruise is listed at $46, so I'm going to wait before booking that one. (edited to change Vision to Rhapsody - Vision was last April!)
  17. For kicks I've logged in and farmed the hotels every couple of hours yesterday and today (at Level 19). Racked up just shy of 30,000 chips which I'll completely lose at the tables tonight, LOL.
  18. If you're flying down early, ask at the hotel if you can drop the bags off for a few hours after your return from the cruise. Most places will happily oblige since you're a customer. We stayed at this 'boutique' hotel in Old San Juan where they offered to let us store an unneeded bag there for the week while on the cruise.
  19. I did; I got older. Actually what happened is I was selected to be a 'consumer expert' at the Miami Rum Renaissance Festival in April, and they needed a headshot and bio. The old pic was from 2010 or so, so I figured it was time to update my avatar with the new photo.
  20. Yes, you can play for free. Look for MyVegas on Facebook. Be aware it's going to take hundreds of hours to win a cruise though. I've been playing for a little less than a week, and I've earned 3,140 points. You need at least 650,000 for a cruise. But it's a nice little time-waster, and if you visit Vegas you can cash in for other prizes as well.
  21. I've been playing multiple times per day since you mentioned this. 3,140 points....only 646,860 to go, LOL.
  22. And this, ladies and gentlemen, is how you work a drink package! :)
  23. Not brave enough to type the full name? LOL
  24. The 2 for $10 T-shirt sale. Have you ever been to one? It's like a war zone in the XXL size section.
