It is confusing since the Province is named Quebec and the Provincial capital city is Quebec City.

Montreal is a much larger city, second largest in the country.  It is further along the St. Lawrence river so not all ships can make it that far.  From the ocean to Quebec City the river is wider.  From Quebec City to Montreal the river is more narrow in places.

You should find more flight options into Montreal since it has a larger population base.

Thanks for the help, hope to get this on the books soon....

Empress from Quebec City?  A number of Empress itineraries are from Montreal.  The larger ships like Adventure or Vision can't make it any further up the river than Quebec City but Empress goes all the way to Montreal.

I was just looking at that.  Now I'm more confused.  It leaves from Montreal, Quebec.  So I must be leaving from Montreal?  Is that the port at 200 de la commune?  Guess the problem is I don't know much about Canada, only been to Vancouver.

For cruises from Quebec City the closest airport is YQB.

For cruises from Montreal on Empress the closest airport is YUL.

When I sailed from Quebec City I couldn't find good connections into YQB which is a smaller airport in terms of flights per day.  Instead I flew to Montreal YUL.   YUL is a Canadian gateway airport that has numerous international flights to Europe and other destinations.  It's a much bigger airport compared to YQB.  Flying into Montreal meant finding a way a few hours up the road to Quebec City.  There are buses, VIA Rail and rental cars.  I rented a car one way.

Found a direct flight from Orlando to Quebec, only 3 hour long.  I looked at your blog that Lovetocruise2002  posted.  Don't think I want to drive 3 hours but who knows.  I'm a hilton honors so the hilton you stayed in would work.  I have a lot of research but its still 11 months away.  We want to start the booking by next month.  I'm trying MEI, we have one with them now for February.  They haven't done anything for us yet but figured we'd give them a try on this one.  I'm used to doing everything and haven't had any issues.

Good to hear from you, arebee.  It’s been a while !

I know, been stalking here and reading the live blogs.  Been over a year since my last cruise and that was a Holland American to Alaska.  Just been to crazy lately.  Retired, remodel parts of the house, now have 5 grandkids and one the forks on my motorcycle has a bad seal.  Oh well... Life goes on.

  5. We've done a segway excursion a couple times.  Takes you to the lighthouse then down the beach on a paved path.  Its ok, you go through some of the tourists areas and will stop at the beach where you can get something to eat and drink.  For the trip back, if you're lucky, you can take the segways.  We were the last on one trip and got to ride them all the way back.  If not they pay for a taxi back to the port.  It was something different.

  6. We did one in Juneau last Sept but not with Royal.  If its like ours, the team pulls a sled on wheels that hold about 8 people.  It was fun and they can pull.  We also got to hold several puppies from 4 weeks old to several months.  They do this to socialize them.  If yours is the same, there should be a dog there named Guda (like the cheese) he is a retired sled dog and just lays around now being spoiled.  If hes there, give him a scratch on the head for me.  As for clothes, since it August I'd say a light jacket.  No need for hiking boots but no flip flops either.  To be sure you can check the weather to see the history at Juneau for you week.  Thats what we did.

  7. Best thing you can do is either call RC and see if they can make it happen or as soon as you can when you board go to the MDR and talk to the maitre d .  They can usually accommodate you.  If you have some time before the cruise, I'd call.  We were able to get a table for two a couple times when we did.

I got an email sayibg check in at Terminal B at 3pm on my arrival day but the app and other documents say from 12 and room ready at 1.

    When can i check in?

When ever you get there...  Usually you won't be allowed on board until about 10:30 or 11:00.  Those times are a "suggestion" so its your vacation, get there when you want.

We never get off at St. Maarten or St. Thomas anymore but that's b/c we have been there so many times; well...that and the fact that I cannot be trusted on St. Thomas  due to all of the GREAT jewelry stores there.

I find port days on the eastern Caribbean itins to be great stay-on-the-ship days.

    Don't forget the Bones rum................

    Hi all,

I apologize if this has been answered before but I couldn't find a thread on it.

We are visiting Orlando this weekend and book on the Navigator next Friday out of Miami.

We are renting a car from MCO and returning it to FLL after the trip.

We want to get to Miami as quickly as we can.  I know the Florida Turnpike is the quickest route.  But I am concerned about tolls.

I know the tolls are cashless on the Turnpike.  I don't want to pay $7 per day for a transponder from my rental car as my entire trip is 10 days with only one having tolls.

It seems like I can walk into a Publix, Walgreens or CVS and buy a SunPass.  Is that possible to buy a SunPass and link it to the rental car?

    Any input would be appreciated.

    @Matt

There are two types of sun passes.  One is a sticker that is attached to your windshield and the other is plastic and uses suction cups to attach to the windshield.  They can both be attached to any car but the sticker is destroyed once its removed.  I have two with the suction cups and have loaned them out to family when they come into town.  So, yes you can link it to a rental car.  You will have to log into the account you create and add the tag number just in case the reader doesn't register.  They'll look to see if you have a transponder and just charge your account.  The sticker is sort of free, you pay like $5 but it gets credited to your account, the plastic one cost (I think) about $10 but don't remember if its credited to your account.  That information should be on the package.

  11. I don't know about finding info on nutrition, sometimes things will say stuff like sugar free or what ever.  Don't worry about asking, you aren't the first.  I promise.  The workers are usually very good at helping.  If they don't know they will find out.

There are several venues that are free to eat, biggest is the wind jammer.  Only the specialty dining cost like Chops.  Some will have lines like the Cafe promenade but the wind jammer is just crowded.  If you like to eat at traditional times you will be with hundreds of your closest friends.  We always try to go early or late just to avoid crowds.

Don't worry about the cruise, it will become second nature by the second day.
